It doesnt matter bc the batter does not have the trainer on when in the batters box.

Would this work for youth baseball (not softball) assuming bats have 2 3/4" or 2 5/8" barrel?

Yes this fits a youth baseball bat depending on the make up. If the barrel transition is smooth from the handle to the barrel it fits. Just fits lower on the barrel. You get bat weight not barrel weight.
