Web pronunciation guide makes this a winner
The online pronunciation guide makes this book worth every penny! The pronunciation guide is the piece that is missing from almost every book on learning Russian I've purchased. I finally went to Pimmsleur's language CD's because nothing else had anything but text. (They're excellent, by the way, but they lack the text.) The online guide uses a native female speaker. She speaks clearly and distinctly, which is what you'll need to get it right. The 'push button' links to hear the word work well, although sometimes you have to click twice to get it to play. Yes, it would be nicer to have flash cards, etc. But for $10, it's a steal. Go Internet! The book contains 1000 very useful words, like pillow, soap, kitchen, etc. Not many verbs, but many (if not most) of the nouns you will need for day to day conversation. It is certainly not a book to learn to converse in Russian but it does a great job of giving you the basic words to make this possible.Regardless of your age, this book will be useful for the beginner in the Russian Language. I'd love to see the authors do a similar book for verbs and introductory conversation, complete with online pronunciation. Buy this book so they'll make more! :)

WOW, a definite must-buy!
The media could not be loaded. I am a Russian speaking parent and want to teach my toddler my first language. This book is really complete and perfect in everything a pre-schooler is learning. I was beyond surprised and feel so blessed to have found such an amazing work of literature and art for little ones! As a mom I felt like I wasn’t covering all the words that my little one needed to know and this book really filled in as a second teacher! I have actually been in Russian speaking countries in search of educational literature and didn’t even find anything that compares to the vast knowledge and concepts portrayed in this book. Since my toddler is rough, I did take this book apart very carefully and laminated it for extra endurance and rebound it with 1 inch rings, obviously not necessary but once I read through this book I knew it was a keeper and I wanted it to be as protected and safe as it could be while being completely in my little ones hands anytime she wants!

fun vocabulary builder
Okay...so this is like the English-language version that American kids have. While some may think there are too many words and pictures on each page, this works for adults. It's grouped according to themes (food, travel, party, etc) which are shown in scenes, with extra pictures around the borders. All pictures are labeled in Russian, with the pronunciation below each word. Most pronunciations are correct. If you can't figure out the word's meaning, there is a glossary in the back.Kid's-style vocabulary* book for adults...and kids, too. Nice break to just look at simple pictures instead of Russian text-only.*Vocabulary, NOT phrases/sentences

Universally liked
I've had or gifted these great children's books in several languages, most recently Russian. They are great, allowing the 'teacher' to talk about the scenes in different areas of home, etc., while using the vocabulary. Most recently, I gifted this book in Russian, and the parents gave it a great review.Highly recommend in whatever language.

Perfect for a four year old trilingual chief
Our four year-old son is trilingual and we are continuing to find ways to maintain his Russian. This book has hit the spot. The pictures help endlessly and not only does he enjoy pointing them out, he is at the age where he is able to identify (proudly!) that he know the difference between the words as different languages themselves. Once that hurdle is made, then they really start to enjoy knowing more than one language.
