Portmeirion Sophie Conran Celadon Small Oval Platter

I love this line of dishes and have many pieces. Some of the serving pieces are my favorites, including this platter. It is absolutely perfect for serving asparagus, just the right fit and the green looks spectacular with the white dish. I also use it for all sorts of other things: a pickles and olives tray, small hot hors d'oeuvres, slices of watermelon, slices of tomato, lettuce and onion for burgers, roasted vegetables, cookies, scones, or other baked goods, or sometimes for a few cut sandwiches to have with tea. It is on the smaller side and wouldn't work for a very large group for many of these things but for 2-6 people, it would work well for most of these purposes. Looks gorgeous with the other pieces in this line! I've had mine for two years and it still looks like new. Highly recommend!

I'm only commenting on the look of this plate, since I just received it to match other pieces I already have in this collection. To me, the majorl appeal of this collection is the concentric circles that look almost like a finger gently formed them as they were hand-thrown on a potter's wheel. This effect is lost, however, on the oval dish because the pattern is interrupted at the edges of the interior oval depression and then starts again circling the oval rim. This oval piece looks a little more like the pattern of a raked Zen garden, which, if you haven't seen the effect of the round pieces, might be perfectly fine. And I like the somewhat deep depression inside the oval for setting off the food contents. However, the pieces that are circular (dinner plates, salad bowls) are much more aesthetically integrated, in my opinion.
