People complained that it was scratched, as I could see, but it was on the back where you couple first see the aluminum. The protective cover, which is the white sticky sheet with the heat warning, did a great job of protecting the side one actually uses. I removed it, bit of a pain, but the usable side was perfect. Can't wait to use up some printing paper and wax.

Mine just arrived with a gauge and a scratch in the middle of the plate. Disappointing. At least Amazon makes it easy to return it. I am giving it four stars anyway because I am going to purchase another one even before they refund me for this, as it is heavy duty and looks like it will work out well. Looking forward to mono printing with my next one! No doubt this damaged one was an anomaly.
