This jacket pretty much fills the bill. I'm a men's small shirt, and the small size jacket was the right size for me. It fits easily over an ordinary shirt, and I also wear it over a shirt and sweater. It fits over those as well, but a big more snuggly. The 3/4 length sleeves works fine for me. The jacket washes well and did not shrink.What's not great? The covered buttons are a pain. They might look better, but I don't care about looks. It's a mild pain to have to squeeze the button through the button hole. I thought this would get easier over time, but that hasn't been the case.I would be happier if there were a pocket or two on the jacket (other than the thermometer pocket, which I don't find useful). Short sleeve coat are not practical for my tight kitchen, the 3/4 sleeve looks neat and professional as well as enough protection if you brush up against a hot oven. We have had some hot days this week and its been really difficult coping with the heat and weight of of my coat. Today was the first day this week I did not feel faint despite the 90 degree day and my scorching kitchen.
