I ordered this product from another online retailer (Vitacost) and in their cart it clearly states "This product will be shipped cold." It arrived with a strong ice pack. I called Vitacost and asked whose policy it was to do that. The rep told me that it is required by Now Foods to ship the probiotics with cold packs. Well, I wanted to confirm this and I just called Now Foods and spoke with the right department. The Now expert said that used to be their policy but about 3 years ago they changed their policy. The product does not need to be shipped cold at this time, however it needs to be refrigerated when you receive it. I don't like to have probiotics shipped to me in the intense summer heat, so he recommended buying enough product in the spring to last until the fall/winter and just store it in the refrigerator or even the freezer and it will keep its potency.I'm actually impressed that Vitacost ships the Now probiotics in cold packs. I am a bit concerned about Amazon warehouses because a couple of weeks ago a seller posted Amazon's seller guidelines that stated their warehouses can reach 100 degrees so supplements that cannot withstand that temperature should not be stored in Amazon's warehouses. I don't want to believe this because I purchase a large number of my supplements from Amazon and have always assumed their supplements are kept in a cooler in their warehouses. The Now Foods rep said that in their tests, a few days of shipping should not harm the potency, but he couldn't speak for longer storage without refrigeration. Many other brands have some of these strains but not all and as comprehensive as this one. I have noticed a difference as I have been taking these for over a year now and my gastro issues have really quieted down.These are a great price compared to others and a high potency is what you really need. If you struggle with diarrhea or constipation give these a try I think you might be surprised.I do keep mine refrigerated to increase longevity and I know that some people were worried because it says to keep refrigerated and they send these products non-refrigerated. After a month long course of a triple antibiotic regimen, pregnancy, and two stomach viruses, I had a series of GI issues. Initially I struggled with upper GI problems (chronic nausea, reflux) which over the next 12 months progressed to chronic IBS symptoms. Some days were so bad I was terrified to leave the house. I ended up having an endoscopy, a CT scan, and every other test imaginable because I had lost a tremendous amount of weight. I was loosely diagnosed with IBS and sent on my way. The symptoms were so debilitating I was starting to get depressed. Finally I started researching probiotic supplements and after 6 more months of trying various different products with no success, I cam across this one. Within a week I could leave the house without stressing. Within a month I was able to eat most foods again (I had to restrict my diet pretty extensively because my stomach could not handle much). Within three months I finally started getting my energy back (probably because I was finally absorbing what I ate). I will say that the whole process took a lot of trial and error, and while one probiotic might work for one person, another might not work for you. There's a lot to be discovered about the specific types of imbalances, and it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what combination of bacterial strains will work for you.
