The most price conscious solidifier, must have
First thing I'd say about solidifying stuff in general, is if you haven't tried any of them and have an ileostomy, try one before you listen to anyone who says you don't need a supply like this, or they dont like it, ESPECIALLY if your stoma is flush or doesn't stick out far into your bag, because I this is second time with a temporary ostomy and this alone is what has made my 2nd one so great I might never reverse it. Now, my 1st temporary one...was pretty fine without anything like this for the first 3 months, because I had a stoma sticking out into the bag a full inch, super great, whatever..I probably changed the bag more than I do now, but I wasn't fully losing my mind without this. Then they built my jpouch and I had the second 3 months with a flush stoma before I could have my j pouch hooked up. It was a nightmare, no one told me anything useful, I foolishly forgot reddit exists, Amazon wasn't quite as ginormous as it is now with all these supplies and reviews, and I was going through 3 full wafer/bag changes minimum a day, my skin was being eaten, I had to have that biopsied it got so bad, I couldn't go anywhere and I mean...anywhere more than 6 feet from my bathroom, I once tried to meet a friend for dinner and had to change wafers 3 times just before the appetizer came out and then I had to leave her and drive home with one of the baby's diapers on my stomach. A convex wafer and this product alone would have saved me a lot of screaming and crying and I would have felt so much better about what was about to happen when I found out my j-pouch was failing and needed to rest and I had to go back to the ostomy. I avoided it for years because of that bad experience, and spent way too long being half dead, in pain, severely anemic, and missing out on everything, especially my kid. And that is why I'm writing all these long ostomy product reviews because am I going to let that happen to you? No I am not, friend. No I am not. So about this, and then I'm actually going to list everything I use for any poor suffering newbie out there who isnt being told important things ...I tried Diamonds and all of those packet versions, used Trio's Pearls for too long before I found this. A thing of Pearls has 100 small packets I believe, for usually over $35 and shipping wasn't included. This lasts longer for less money, and does the same thing the packets do with slightly less portability, but not really...get yourself an empty prescription bottle. I have a small waterproof wristlet I keep in my bag, got it for 10 bucks on Amazon, I keep a small squeeze bottle of safe n simple deodorant (refill it from the big one, only buy the travel size once or you're wasting money) and 3 prescription bottles inside it, all full with this...I can basically go anywhere all day and when I get home there will still be some in the bag. Use about a teaspoon, maybe 2. None of these things are really going to do anything for odor, you'll need a deodorant. The more expensive packets dont help odor more than this, its all lies. But these things are still a must have for an ileostomy...colostomy, I wouldnt bother. It reduces bag leaks, liquid getting under the wafer, itching with this stuff won't happen for days, I go 5 days a wafer usually with all the stuff I use, if it itches, and you haven't forgotten to put this in or used too little when output is very liquidy (like maybe you haven't eaten breakfast), that's because you need to change everything. But this will extend wear. Nightmare burning itchy liquid where you can't scratch is no more, waking up to a stupid leak after barely 2 days is no more. You need this. Pearl, you're going to realistically need 5 packets for very liquidy/overnight, and multiple even if you've eaten. So 100 packets sudden becomes 20-30 trips to the bathroom. This bottle, you need 1.5-2 a month maybe. Could be less, I tend to go through it like it doesn't cost me money at first, but when I get to the bottom and have forgotten to order more, suddenly I'm able to make half an inch at the bottom of the container last 3 days. Pearl I was ordering weekly. It was more than 2x as much. No thanks, I have 13 years worth of medical debt, I am not interested in overpaying for a packet bc it is named after a precious gem. I'm only gonna poop on it. So get you some of this. Also, note...prescription pill bottles won't leak this out all over. And it has not clogged my toilet in my fairly oldish (for America) house.List of you musts have: osto-ez vent, simple n safe (or safe n simple I can't ever remember) deodorant few drops no smell..fart your bag out the vent in public with abandon even, this, nexcare waterproof tape they're not lying it's waterproof I take baths and I'm about to test the ocean, adapt barrier rings...regualar is great, the ceramide ones are better but more expensive and wear time isn't that different for the price increase (the best brand by far, if you can't use trio's silicon barrier rings bc there's no stoma or not enough stoma to hug but if you can use trio's hug type I once got 10 days between changes with one but then didn't have success with them again bc my stoma is a loop and half of it is TEMPERAMENTAL about sticking out. Man, did the silicone feel like BUTTAAAA on my skin tho), I've recently realized the skin barrier wipes weren't doing anything of note so I just say you can skip those. I use the mio sensura 2 piece adhesive system this time with a convex wafer, might switch to the 1 piece...its a toss up between having to switch my entire wafer if my ez vent somehow gets detached from the bag on a 1 piece vs. Accidentally detaching the adhesive bag from your wafer bc you have done something dumb (this is way worse but happens way less, idk which do you think is better send me a postcard with your vote) Get a small waterproof bag cheap on here, cover your embarrassing labels with electrical tape if you want that privacy when they accidentally roll away from you in the public restroom. And I personally find the cornisel stomasafe wraps make me feel much more secure in something loose like a dress your bag isn't flapping around whenever you move like a lost boob, and I usually wear it under my jeans as well to keep them from accidentally pulling my ez-vent off, help smooth the bag out if it's a little full so it's less visible but I can't get to the bathroom yet you really can't tell until it's FUUUULLLL OH NO, and it's just nice to have that extra layer protecting your clothes should some unpleasant oopsiedoodle arise. So I would get one of those too and then get 5 more. Okay, you have fun with your ostomy ladies and gents, may it be the difference between barely living and being in constant pain and misery, and liiiiiviing baby with a slightly embarrassing situation that at least can be an endless source of hilarious jokes at home with the family. Bye bye

Absolute gelatinous of liquid stoma bag waste
Gone are the mornings I wake with leaky stoma bag. My output is usually very liquidy in the morning. This product solves that problem. It turns into a gel that can be easily discarded. It’s wonderful. It does not do much for smell, I use the blue drops from another company to eliminate odors. Other products in this category cost twice as much. This is a deal. I am regular customer now. You can purchase with ease.

Works well- Truly Amazing how much it absorbs
Smell control? A bit- not 100% but enough- absorption? Incredible- Put a table spoon full in a large bowl- keep adding water- you will be amazed how much this absorbs- It was unreal- a large soup bowl was full of gel- absorbed all the water- all from one tablespoon of powder- Works well for iliostmy output which is liquid- only use about 1/4 teaspoon (that is the amount I've settled on as more will make output too solid which can cause problems- more than that is a bit troublesome)- The gelling helps keep liquid solidified which helps with the pouch seal to stay attached longer- as liquid isn't constantly trying to work underneath the seal- Smell control? I dunno- perhaps 60-70% effective/reduction?

A big and expensive disapointment
I was really hoping this product was going to be the answer to a couple of the problems I have with a colostomy bag. I noticed no improvement in odor and nearly none of the lubricating properties advertised. If only they offered a trial size at a reasonable price so a person could see if it helped with a buyers colostomy's issues but at this price is was an expensive trial for a product that did almost nothing. About 2% as effective as Hollister's lubricating deodorant (in my opinion).I have tried various amounts of the product and feel I have given it a fair chance to work.Feel free to thank me for NOT adding a photo.

Meh
I tried this because I have a colostomy, thanks crohn's disease, and have very bad skin breakdown from liquid output.I does work to absorb the liquid, but it then sticks to the bag, and becomes difficult to remove. Be careful how much you use, it can clog your toilet if you use too much.As for the promise of odor control, I agree with other reviews, it does NOT do anything for the odor. That was not my primary goal, so it didn't matter to me, but I know that is a big draw for other folks, and this product did not do as it promised in that department. It is more affordable than the diamond pouches, if you need absorption, but I will probably try something else after I use all of this up.It is too hard to remove from my ostomy pouch, and becomes heavy very quickly.

Not a High Performer
I have been an ostomate (ileo) for 24 years. I had to have my ileostomy moved to the opposite side of my abdomen recently due to several parastomal hernia repairs over the years. Post-operatively, I experienced severe projectile diarrhea and it was suggested I try the Smeleze. While it performs well for thickening the stool, it falls short on odor control. I still have to use the blue drops to control odor. The packaging is horrendous. Who can measure out a spoonful or two of this whilst holding the tail of a bag? Not me. So, I took a funnel and an empty, dried plastic water bottle with a flip-top, and poured the granules in so that I can squeeze a teaspoon or two into my bag. It works so much better this way and I just "eyeball" the couple of teaspoons that are needed to go into my bag. You certainly wouldn't be able to shake or pour from the provided packaging, as the dispenser is twice as wide as any bag I've ever used. It's unlikely that I will ever buy this again as I've started taking a thickening agent via my mouth that seems to work much better.
