Excellent and a must have for roof top bags.
We purchased this roof mat for my Cadillac SRX along with the Keeper 07203-1 Waterproof roof top cargo bag. The reason for this purchase was for a trip down to the Texas Coast. We had 2 adults and 3 kids in the car and there was no way we could fit all of our luggage, beach canopy, toys and baby gear. If you have ever traveled with kids, it's like moving. We needed to find another alternative to lugging our stuff with us. I started to research rooftop bags and noticed that most people purchased this mat to keep it from sliding backwards or forwards when you accelerate or stop. My vehicle is a mid-size crossover SUV and the top is not huge. So, in the middle of June we purchased the bag and the mat. We tried it out about a week before to make sure it fit properly and it did! Now came the hard part.....would everything fit on top of my tiny car and would the mat fit and bag too. And I'm pleased to say YES.So off we went to the beach. We didn't hit any rain along the way. But that bag stayed put! So, not only did it protect my car from being scratched, it protected the bag from damage as well.If you get a rooftop bag, doesn't matter what brand, this mat is a must. It's material is like the liners that you put on shelves but much thicker. It can also be cut if needed.

Works but overpriced
Got this when I had to carry 2 semi-hard-shell suitcases on the roof of our Jeep Liberty for about 250mi from NY to boston. Used a tarp to wrap the suitcases rather than get a separate cargo bag. Used ratcheting straps hooked to the roof rails to hold the suitcases firmly against the roof. A corner of the tarp that was loose and flapping was tattered by the time we got home but it did protect the suitcases and was way cheaper than a cargo bag. I did debate putting the suitcases on cross-bars on the roof rather than directly on the roof, but the former would have given much greater wind resistance. The mat held up well and there was not a single scratch to the roof of the car. Having said that, however, this was very similar in construction to the rubber shelf liners you get at wal-mart for much, much cheaper. You could get a pretty wide roll for less than half the price of this, fold it into 2 layers for greater protection, and still have a lot of the roll left over to line up shelves at home.I admit to not knowing what to expect, but this just felt too overpriced for what I got. 1/8-inch thickness isn't exactly what I would call 'super thick' either.

This is great and easy to place
This is great and easy to place. We did buy a mat to go under it. Since we have no luggage rack, we had to use the straps that go through the inside of the car. The only problem is when it started raining, it leaked into our car a lot. I don't know if it is that the straps are hooked too tightly and pushing the weather seal in too much or what. I didnt see anyone else's review that complained of that problem. Nothing moved though and the contents of the roof bag stayed totally dry. And it holds a lot! Two large overstuffed suitcases, 3 children's portable cots, a travel case, a large backpack and 3 pillows. If we can figure out the rain problem, I will happily give 5 stars.

Slid around a lot
I give this mat three stars because it did slide around and get bunched up slightly in the rain. I did a cross country trip (Michigan to Oregon) and so there was a lot of rain. It covered the majority of my car top (I have a small hyundai accent 2005) although with this brand there are 2 sizes to choose from I believe. It seemed slightly thin and it didn't seem to grip well at all in the rain. 9 months prior to this I did cross country (Oregon to MI) and had a makeshift roof mat that was made from a thick camping sleeping pad that i cut and fitted to my car! That slid as well but was way thicker and seemed to work better, as it didnt bunch up! I would look for a different brand that has a greater thickness. Both times I used my mats under a large RoofBag Car Top Carrier, with a lot of weight in it (not sure how much weight) but extremely heavy, so that's why i didn't think it should be getting bunched up so much. Although I was going around 80mph in and out of wind and rain. RoofBag is a great brand, thoroughly impressed with their soft car top carriers, and they make mats, but they look similar to this same brand. Their mats are $16-$18.

Works Well
UPDATE - Try not to let the mat or your roof become wet prior to loading. The Sherpak becomes icy slick on your roof once it becomes wet!The Sherpak SuperMat Roof Mat serves several purposes1- It acts as a barrier to keep your roof from being scratched2- It provides an *Anti-Slide* surface for your cargo bag/carrier - PLEASE NOTE - this mat becomes very slick if it becomes wet!3- It helps to reduce (or eliminate) the possibility of wind getting underneath your cargo bag. This helps increase the safety and provide a modest improvement in gas mileage. I am happy to report that the "SuperMat" preforms well in all of these categories. It is easy to put down... easy to store (Although it does have a strong odor when it is first purchased) and works as advertised. Is it a bit expensive at the listed price. Well maybe... but it is not prohibitively expensive and it works. For me that makes it well worth the money!5 Stars

This was a brand new Dodge Journey and I was most pleased with the protection that the mat provided
It worked very well. Purchased with Keeper Roof Top Bag and the mat prevented any scratching or movement of bag. I did not have crossbars on rooftop carrier, so I had to use only the side rails. I had concern that they might slip some and allow the bag to move backward on roof while driving. Did not happen. The mat provided a tacky base which held the bag in place with no movement.I cleaned the top before putting the mat down and when removed there was no scratching or marks of any kind. This was a brand new Dodge Journey and I was most pleased with the protection that the mat provided. I would strongly advise using a mat beneath any car top item to provide both stability and protection.
