Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot (Air Vanguard)

If you ever want to know the difference between Wikipedia and a real book, this is one. This book covers in detail the development, the prototypes, the deployments, and the performance history (including losses) up through the Georgia-South Ossetia conflict. It includes some nice photos, including of a heavily damaged Su-25 that successfully returned to base.There are a few English grammar errors, but the substance and content make up for this.While I might have liked more information and history, especially on operations and performance, this was better than a wikipedia introduction. Wikipedia gives you some basic facts, but lacks depth and only has limited analysis.The one thing I don't understand is why the engines were not placed higher - for example, above the wings - to reduce IR detection and likelihood of ingesting foreign objects.

I would definitely agree with the other reviewers an Amazon about this title. It is comprehensive, and focuses mainly on the technical development of the Su-25. The Operational History section is not quite as thorough as it could be, but if you purchase the author's other book, Su-25 Frogfoot Units in Combat (Volume 109 in Osprey's Combat Aircraft series), you'll get a much more thorough background on combat usage. This book is 64 pages long (66 if you include the cutaway in the fold-out rear cover), and features 9 color profiles, a color profiles page of armaments carried and descriptions, and two 'combat paintings'. I spent a week reading both books back-to-back and cover-to-cover (some sections several times), and found both informational and a valued addition to my library.

Very good little book on the su-25 Frogfoot,covers it's fairly long gestation up to combat use from Afghanistan to South asetia in 2008 also some little known stuff eg anti drug air patrols in paru.The only thing it could have used in my opinion was a chapter focusing on how they go about their missions from a first person type of view focusing on one mission from Afghanistan for example.

A fine story of the development of the late Soviet ground attack airplane. It includes the political background to the decisions to create and manufacture this airplane. The text discusses every sub-type, as far as I can determine. There are many photos. There is also much tabulation of dimensions, performance, weapon loads, and so forth.

Easy to read and lavishly illustrated. Found this to be an excellent resource. While the saga will continue for some time this is an excellent overview up to the current day.

Excellent history from the first plans to make a replacement for the IL-2 through the different iterations that have been used in various roles throughout its storied career as the Soviet's versions of the A-10.

Great pictures and drawing! An aircraft with little know history is brought to the reader with clear to understand reading. The countries buying this aircraft and the employment in recent conflicts is covered in detail. This aircraft nwill be around for another decade.

Ein sehr schönes Buch. Wenn weitere Bände erscheinen sollten werde ich die kaufen. Und wenn sie auf Deutsch rauskommen gibt es 5 Sterne.

Bon livre de base mais ne vaut pas celui de 4+ publication plus détaillé.A vous de juger si l'achat est nécessaire.Pas réellement important dans une bibliothèque spécialisée.

A really informative article, there has obviously been a lot of research on the subject. Mr Maladenov can give himself a well-deserved pat on the back! I shall definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author!
