ConantRain Gauge Vial Replacement (VRG-1) & (VRG-2)

This rain gauge vial was the exact size needed after mine brokelast year. However, this vial does not have a lip at the top and thereforewould not stay in my metal circular holder. So I took a thick rubber bandand wound it around the top twice to create the thickness to hold the gaugein place. All is now good.

This purchase was for the VIAL for the rain gauge, not the complete rain gauge assembly. This is the original vial for this rain gauge assembly. Through no fault of the vial, the life expectancy of one of my vials is relatively short; so I buy in quantity as they are somewhat difficult to track down when needed. I called the vendor, who steered me to Amazon and alerted me to the fact that the narrative did not match the item and that what I was looking at was actually the vial only which is what I wanted. So, ignore the picture, it's incorrect.

I ordered this this item to replace the broken vial on my basic Vermont Rain Guage (model VRG-1). I previously contacted Conant Custom Brass to find out the correct model number for the vial I needed. They instructed me to order part RGV1 from their web site weems-plath.com I was happy to find the same model number here as the total cost plus shipping was slightly less than at weems-plath. The vial I received however had a slightly larger diameter than the original glass so it did not fit in the brass holder. I returned the item (very easy return!) and ordered direct from weems-plath.com. The replacement arrived quickly and in the exact same packaging, marked exactly the same way as this one, but it actually fit. My suggestion to you is deal direct with Conant Custom Brass/Weems-Plath to save time and frustration.

I bought this item as a replacement for my old one and it performs perfectly.

It should be made with tempered glass! It's very thin and if it accidentally gets left outside when the temps fall to freezing or below, I can see it getting broken other times. Very thin. Not pleased w it.

Although expensive, this is a good one. I like the metric measurements also. It appears to be of good quality.

A lot of money for a glass test tube but I have the brass fitting and I didn't want to toss it.
