Better than RoundUp
I bought this because I am having muscle cramps in my right calf and suspect I need potassium and perhaps higher carbohydrate intake. I'm age 60 and training for a race. I also bought Morton Salt Substitute, 3.12-Ounce (88.6g) (Pack of 6) for potassium, but calf was still swollen and sore. And I added calcium (yogurt) and magnesium (pills) to my diet.I am no buckwheat expert, and I can't tell if these have been toasted at all or not. But I put 1/3 cup of buckwheat and about 4 times the water in a bowl and put it in the microwave for a minute to heat it up and let it sit a few hours and soak. Then I put the microwave on for a minute more, and eat. It tastes no worse than oatmeal, perhaps better.Shipping was well done. No spillage.I suspected a wheat allergy because I had a lot of inflammation, but I'm not sure if it's because at harvest time for wheat, soybeans, and corn the farmers spray the crops with RoundUp. Check that out.

Great healthy grain!
The buckwheat arrived quickly, well packaged, and with expiration date clearly indicated on package. I am a Russian native speaker, so the instructions on preparation were clear to me. For those who don't speak Russian, cook by first boiling water and adding buckwheat in to it, 1 cup buckwheat to 2.5 cups of water. Once the water boils again, turn the heat to low, cover and cook for 20 min. Do not stir. The water will evaporate, just like with cooking rice. Remove from heat. Let it stand for 10-15 min to expand. Serve with meat and sauce, or as hot cereal with butter, honey and milk. This buckwheat brand is well roasted and taste delicious. Good buckwheat should not be bitter, and this one taste sweet and buttery. I love the $2/lb price, you get 15lb for $30. I couldn't find anything cheaper, Russian made and in this quantity/quality. So delicious, so good for you.

The very best deal on roasted buckwheat
I've had a Jones for Kasha ever since my Russian/Jewish friend introduced me to it back in 1968. It's hard to find at times, especially outside of large cities. This was by far the best deal I found, and it's very good indeed. If you've never tried kasha, you're missing a delicious healthy treat. Mix one cup roasted buckwheat groats (this product) with an egg and some salt. Stir until completely coated. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a non-stick pot over high heat, and add the buckwheat mix. Stir constantly until each grain is separate. Add exactly two cups water, stir and cover with a tight lid. Reduce heat when it starts to boil. Wait until all water is absorbed, stir again and wait a few minutes. Serve with anything you like, and enjoy the highest protein grain there is. Delicious!

What an excellent product! I cook the Kasha with low sodium chicken broth and heap it cold on to salads. Great kick of extra protein and complex carbs. Of course, I can't keep my spoon out to pan. Luscious and flavor packed! Kasha was very clean but I still go through it before I use it. I also grind it in my flour mill and add it to my breads. Kudo's on the packaging as the idiot postman left the box out in the rain, upon delivery, but the vendor double wrapped each package so the only think soggy was the shipping box. Will be a repeat customer.

and consistency can easily be adjusted using more or less water
This buckwheat is exactly what I wanted. cooks well in the rice cooker, and consistency can easily be adjusted using more or less water. Only drawback is that the package I received was produced approximately a year ago, being halfway to the expiration date. Doesn't seem to affect the quality, but means you have to plan to finish 7 of these in a timely manner

So goooooood!
Agree with the rest of the reviews - this is an authentic 'kasha'. This is my comfort food, as we enjoyed it as kids during cold winter months. SO satisfying, so filling and nutritious, yet healthy and light. I'm on my 7th month of pregnancy and being a vegan/vegetarian, sometimes it can get tricky to find nutritious foods that are easy to make. I eat it almost every day with almond milk and vegeta seasoning (link below). Vegeta, Gourmet Seasoning and Soup Mix, 500g bag

Arrived promptly, was well packaged and taste delicious. The production date clearly stamped on the package, only two months before I got it, the shelf-life is 20 months. No cooking direction in English, but it cooks just like white rice (1cup of buckweat to 2 cups of water) - sort and rinse it before cooking. I like to cook it in rice cooker. I tried different brands of buchweat grown in U.S., but was very disappointed. I recommend this product and will buy it again.
