Before ordering this particular multimeter I had done extensive survey on the internet, but to my surprise, when I went through the photos and specifications of this instrument on the OEM website of HTC, I was shocked to find that a totally different product albeit with the same model number HTC DM-98 with different specifications was listed in the site. However I was assured by the seller that the listed product in the OEM site was an older model and the one I was getting was the latest one. On arrival of the multimeter all my doubts regarding the authenticity of the instrument evaporated, since I found the seller's words to be true. This was an original HTC multimeter with a totally new look and much improved specs. I was floored by the excellent build quality of the instrument. As soon as you turn on the instrument by rotating the rotary switch you will get a solid positive locking action at all the selection points on the dial. The test probes are of excellent quality with silicone wires of 1.00 meter length and well fitting tip covers. The jacks of the lead fit snugly into the sockets of the multimeter with no hint of any loose connection. The thick silicone wires seemed fully capable of carrying 10 Amps of current as specified. Since the relevant sockets on the multimeter light up as soon as a parameter to be measured is selected by the rotary switch and the function switch, it makes the operation of the instrument fail safe and fool proof. You just need to follow the lighted sockets to know which sockets are to be used for test-lead insertion for the particular measurement. The large LCD display is very sharp and the white LED back light does its job well. In addition whenever a voltage of more than 80 volts appear in the circuit, the back light of the display changes to orange which also serves as a warning for high voltage. Since the display is a dual display with a smaller set of numbers on the top right hand corner of the main display, on AC circuits it will show both the voltage/current parameters as well as the frequency of the signal. It also has bar graph display at the bottom, but the utility of this feature other than displaying the range is not very clear. But one word of caution, this is a large multimeter which is not pocketable, but very sturdy and fit for professional use. The accuracy as bench marked against a Fluke-87V is spot on. After having used Fluke multimeters for about last two decades, I can safely vouch for this excellent instrument as a workhorse comparable to the Fluke 15B+ in quality of test measures and electrical safety. The HTC DM-98 is a truly rugged machine with rubberised bump protector all around, a sturdy kick stand and has a bevy of nifty and useful features like a NCV/Live terminal tester with audio and light indicators as well as a LED flashlight in the back. The light indicator is located in front above the main display screen and has a dual colour LED for indication. During NCV test if the detected voltage is in the safe range it lights up in green but if the voltage exceeds a certain value it will light up in red colour to show that there may be dangerous voltage in the vicinity. Rest of the features as seen from the spec. sheet are typical of any mid-end multimeter and this too comes with a K-Type thermocouple probe for temperature measurement. The unit require 2 AA batteries for operation and has adequate fuse protection built in. However both the fuses can be accessed only after removing the back cover which is a bit cumbersome. Over all this is a highly recommended buy. Since this is a relatively new instrument from HTC, it is difficult to find video reviews of the unit, but this multimeter is identical to the Habotest HT-118A, whose reviews are to be found in the Youtube and will give you a fair idea of the instrument, and since as with the HT-118A this unit is also made in China, I strongly suspect that there might be a generic manufacturer who has made both the Units- HTC DM-98 and Habotest HT-118A.

It has got a big display and the meter reading is accurate and steady. A good reliable tool for assembling and repair centres.
