Love this book, gave me a little peek into the life and times of Billy F Gibbons, his passions, his cars, his guitars. Love it !

Almost unique as the band itself, lead man Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top has penned this stylized book of special profiles about himself, the band, their work, their history and his lavish taste of classic cars and hot rods.Throw in a potpourri of everything from his guitar arsenal to various page poses of 'chicas' (including the ones from ZZ Top's groundbreaking videos) and you have a fascinating spread of the Tex-Mex experience, ala Billy G. In fact, he even prints a handwritten copy of his "Rev Willy's Killadilla Renegade Guacamole" recipe! This coffee table hardcover is a non-stop page turner and a 'must have' for any ZZ Top aficionado.Particularly fascinating are the early pictures of a cherubic Gibbons playing in his first bands, starting at 15 and then evolving throughout the decades as, finally, the bearded, master axeman that he is today. There are tales from the band's tours, the video and recording sessions plus the influences on his life, both personally and professionally. There's even space allotted for Gibbons' favorite custom guitar maker, John Bolin, who shares his knowledge of what Mr. G seeks in his guitars.It's hard not to leaf through the book without a constant smile. ZZ Top is raw Americana, characterized in Texas style by spirit and song. There will not be another like them.

Great book, - a 4 star book, - the drop in 1 star for me is that I could have done with more words, - but equally accept that for some the pictures are the main point of interest!The book is around 3 themes, - BFG in the early days, forming a band, - the transition to ZZTop and the short lived original line-up to the spark that made it what it is today with Dusty and Frank. The second theme is around the cars, - we all know of The Eliminator because it featured in the videos, - but what about a few others? They are in here as well as one motorbike! And then the sound and what makes that sound, - well one part of it; the guitars:If you are in any way interested in what is behind the sound from a band then this book should stimulate your senses further, There is a lot of messageboard and word of mouth myth about BFG but this book being from the horses mouth settles some of those issues, - such as the birth of the infamous Pearly Gates and how each guitar has gone on to in some way emulate the sound achieved with that iconic guitar. Also covers a small percentage of the BFG guitar collection, - about 55 of them.For me those extra words would have been around the amps and stage setup that his Guitar Tech Ellwood is in charge of as I know that there is some fascinating information in that part of the storey, - but nobody ever died of a thirst for information...

I had the paperback edition of this book for a few years and was pleased to see this revised hardback option so bought it. The book is nicely presented in its orange slipcase and it's very sturdy. The content is a gallery of Mr Gibbons' guitars, cars, clothes and other things ... all very interesting and yes, you get some good images of 'Pearly Gates' his 1959 Les Paul. Recommended.

I bought this book as I have been a long term fan of Billy and ZZ Top and the first edition was a soft backed version which I really did not want. This new release is far better hardbacked and comes with a nice slip case packed with info and great photo's of his cars and guitars and lots of history well worth buying for your collection a great read would have liked more guitar info but overall a nice item.

I had been considering buying this book for some time being as I'm a Z.Z. fan and a guitar lover but the price put me off a little. But I finally took the plunge..What a Book this is. First it is a BIG book, you will not carry this around in your pocket to read on the train. Like the other reveiws state this book is split into 3 parts B.G'S story , Cars and Guitars and as he got some guitars. Great pictures on semi glossy paper. I was interested in Billy and his guitars foremost but the Chapter and pictures of his cars is as equally interesting. If you are a Z.Z.Top fan this book is a must. If you are also interested in guitars and cars, well then that's a bonus.....Let the Reverend WILLIE G educate you.

I have been a ZZ Top fan for many years and love Bill Gibbons guitar playing and have followed his career closely. I was expecting a in depth look at his life but was disappointed by his book. This won't stop me buying their CDs but I am still in the dark about the real Billy Gibbons.
