Very nice Uke and a Headturner
This was a Christmas gift. My wife has gotten into the Uke but didn't have a really nice one to play on. She has seemed to focus on those Ukes made by the big name guitar companies. I am a Gretsch guitar player and have always loved their quirky personalaties and the style the exude. So the Uke itself... It came quickly and was safely packaged. I opened it up and inspecting it found it to be a very nice coloring of woods. Without boring you it comes with a Fishman Kula pickup with preamp & is a solid quartersawn mahogany top, with a laminated mahogany back and sides It has a one-piece mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge "snowflake" position markers. Not sure why gretsch went with "snowflake" markers but the are different and Gretsch is nothing if not different. A nice touch is the bone nut. The finish is called an open pore semi-gloss finish which was very nicely done and not one fo those hugely gloss finishes that sceam out at you or blind you if you are up on stage. And yes Virgina it does Include a gig bag, a very stout tan gig bag with "Gretsch" sewn into it. Plenty of places to carry suff and it is heavily padded... Nice touch Gretsch !I took it to my guitar luthier for a set up & fret dressing. The set up seemed high to me and the frets a tad uneven. But I was not paying for a $2000.00 Martin uke so this was not a surprise. A quick fret level and dressing and a tweak here and their & it was truly a nice feeling Uke. My luthier commented that the strings that came on the Uke were high quality and need not be changed & overall he said it appeared to be a hell of a deal for what it is.I plugged it into a smal Fender Bronco solid state amp and it sounded VERY nice. I really know little about Ukes and can do a whole five chords but the Gretsch seemed quite comfortable being plugged in and sounded even more interesting when adding a bit of trem or chorus.Overall my wife was happy with her gift. It feels comfortable to her, she is petite and she enjoys the tenor sound very much. The fret leveling was pretty bad from the factory but I have seen guitars from the big G and F that were just as bad. So find a good guitar tech and spend the few $ to make it right. As to what I call the wow factor, most serious Uke players seem to be quite surprised when this Gretsch pops out at a practice or show. It was money well spent and the only reason it got a 4 1/2 star rating was the need for a set up. Bottom line if it was stolen would I find another for her? You bet.

Great Tenor!
Love this Tenor G9121. Nice tones once the strings were broken in. A bit deeper than my Concert, as expected. This came with a clip on and attached tuners. The attached is ok, and convenient. This sounds great when plugged in, as well as with no amplification.Delivery was scary. The box had holes in it, was opened and missing box staples, dented and scuffed. I am shocked that the Ukulele survived! The delivery fault was Amazon Prime's, not the seller or manufacturer.

Actions not very smooth..
I’ve had this for 3 months now.. it doesn’t play as well as my Kala.. lots of rough edges... nuts very high.. I was able to smooth it out myself cause I have the right tools.. but it’s difficult to play certain chords on it(B.b)Electronics work great!I probably would have sent it back if I had time...oh well..

Poor fit and finish
Understanding that this is not a high dollar uke, i was still disappointed in the fit and finish. The fret wires are very sharp almond the edges, and the red stain is uneven. There was a large scratch running from the sound hole to the upper edge of the lower bout. The gig bag is very nice, so I can't help but believe this uke let the factory in this condition. Will cost $50 to get the fret dressing done and a proper set up.

Old fretmarker & one of the battery is not working..
The reason I gave only 4 stars is because the fret markers looks old.. I thought I would receive it in polished condition. Another thing is one of the battery that comes with my fishman pickup is not working:( I had to buy a replacement.. Although the body is fine and it sounds good to me.. thanks!

Strange craftmanship
Cracked/chipped bridge, it seems as if this defect would worsen every time you switched strings. Plus, the top was thick enough to mute the sound substantially.

All perfect except pickup hanging in sound hole...
Well made, not the same color as the one in the advertisement, more a really deep red nice looking mahogany. Case was not an off white, but more a golden cream, which I like better. I Love this case it opens up all the way, so you are not stuffing the Uke into a bag... thin coating of finish that actually scratched just by my fingernail, but rubbing it with your wet finger smooths it our almost like new. Thin finishes allow the wood to vibrate easier. Thicker neck than I thought, but typical Gretsch stability and design. plays really well... I was concerned by the many bad reviews, but have ordered 5 Uke's from Amazon now and every one was excellent. One issue, I gazed into the sound hole and looky there.. the pickup was hanging loose. Not amused!!! I have had this with other Uke stick on pickup systems, and contacted the manufacturer they won't tell you where to place it. SO I stuck it in myself with some silicone and it works just fine, still a hassle and that is why only 4 stars. Came with 2 - 2032 button batteries, but they were long gone, put new ones in, tuner (really neat method) works and pickup. Great sound through an amp. Arrived a week early...bonus!
