SuperHandy Ultra Duty 212cc Gas Multi-Function Wood Chipper/Shredder/Mulcher

This chipper is awesome. I’ve been using it for awhile and it does a great job. I’ve shredded a lot of brush with it even with leaves on the brush. Avoid shoving too much through at one time and wear good protection for face and hands. I use the front chute primarily and it works great. Haven’t had to change blades yet which is nice.

So I've had this about half a year and used it several times. I've probably only have a bout 6 hours run time on it but it really makes quick work of my brush pile.The Pros: The engine is a honda predator clone so parts are cheap and readily available. It does a great job chipping up branches. Its easy to move around and get it to where your brush is.The Cons: The hopper for leaves and brush doesn't work great. The bag is really small and you'll fill it quick.It is pretty loud and chips fly everywhere so eye and hearing protection are a must but its a power tool so that is to be expected.The only problem I've had was the carburetor got clogged after about an hour of use which is a common problem whit certain predator engines. The nice thing is rebuild kits are about $15 for this carb. All I had to do though was clean it out and put on new gaskets.As far as the small bag if you are chipping up a lot of sticks I recommend just laying out a large tarp under the discharge chute then just rake up the chips after your done as they do go everywhere. Otherwise you'll spend more time emptying the bag then actually chipping up sticks. If you only have a few to do you could get away with usng the bag.

I purchased this wood chipper in 2021, and it has proven to be an excellent investment. It starts up easily, even after sitting unused through the winter. For best results, it's important not to take shortcuts—limbs with multiple branches should be trimmed down to ensure smooth feeding. I’ve seen a few reviews mentioning oil leaks at startup; mine had a similar issue, which turned out to be caused by the dipstick not being properly tightened. Once that was resolved, there were no further problems. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

tl;dr tips: for larger branches I found running at low speeds and pre-cutting them shorter helps.If it's questionably thick, pre-cut into 2-3 foot lengths.Running on low speed, if it bogs down, it'll pause and bounce until the engine speeds up again. If it's already short, it will feed through before the engine stalls out.I have stalled a few times, but each time I knew the branch was questionably thick. The engine started up great afterwards, so stalling never was really a problem.Generally speaking, I've heard from chippers to expect about 2/3 the advertised cut diameter. This chipper excels when considering that as a starting point.It will chip anything that's too small to consider turning into firewood :)Full summary:I debated for some time, I've never been a fan of small motors. Following the instructions, this started up great. I used the 92 gas I pulled out of my motorcycle when I put it away for the winter.I was only able to find SAE 10-30 4 cycle oil, not the recommended SAE15-40. Also works great.Assembly wasn't that hard for someone who excels at ikea furniture. Some parts are a bit heavy, but all the parts on mine were functionally correct.It rolls great, I was able to roll it down the stairs off my porch, down some retaining wall block steps, and down a dirt hill to where I wanted it. (I was also able to roll it back up the hill, haven't tested up the stairs again yet)If you prep the branches first, it feeds great. I use a machete to trim off side branches. I set anything too big off to the side.Cons: I haven't found a good way to put loose / smaller pine branch pieces in yet. The shredder doesn't pull them in and the chipper hopper is too small to easily add them. I just want a bit larger of a chute for the chipper.I haven't really tested on leaves. If I had to do it again, I might just get a chipper-only model that had a bigger feed mechanism. I got this one on sale though, so I'm able to overlook the shredder aspect for my current use case :DOther tips:I was able to get some of the pine needle branches in chipper, but they do sometimes get stuck in the hopper. I save some medium size branches to use as a pusher, so that if/when they get sucked into the chipper they just chip up with all the pine needles.

I turns out that the unit leaks oil like an antique British motorcycle. After initial use the I placed the unit in my barn, fortunantely over a piece of cardboard. Later I found the cardboard soaked withoil. The leak seems to be coming from a gasket at the bottom of the motor.Original Review: The chipper arrived from the seller five days early. Assembly is awkward because of the need to wrestle the heavy engine/chipper unit around while adding the wheels and lower stand in place. Once the wheels and stand is in place, the only other difficulty was threading the hopper bolts due to a little paint in the threads. A 10mm and 13mm pair of ratcheting box end wrenches will make this assembly go easily. Follow the order of assembly or risk losing a bolt or nut into the hopper (something my younger self might have done.) Overall assembly is about "putting wheels on a bicycle" level of complexity.The unit started first pull. It makes a lot of odd noises on start up, likely the cutter unit. Ours died unexpectedly one time but only once. Other than that the operation of the engine has been fine. The wife is critical of the size of the pieces ejected. We are using this to chip Yaupon and some of the stem pieces ejected are up to three inches in length. That's the reason for the 4 starts overall. It is much heavier than I expected and pulling it up and down hills is best done on a smooth path.So good initial quality. Awkward, but simply assembly. Works as advertised. Knowing what I know today, I would NOT buy it again if I were looking for a small chipper.
