Q: Is this jacket machine washable?

Yes it is machine washable,but do not use a softner(comfort,lenor)as this removes the coating that makes it waterproof.

Q: is this a hoodie or a coat/jacket? Can this be used as a sports/exercise hoodie? or does it have stretch?

It is a jacket with a full zip. It is a soft shell, so it doesn't have a lot of stretch. I wouldn't use it for sports/exercise other than as a spectator.

Q: Is this suitable for winter wear?

It depends what you mean by 'winter'. For a snowy day, walking the dog in the park, it'll be fine but not perhaps for hill walking in the Tussocks during a storm. If it's cold and drizzly, put a few layers on underneath and you'll be warm and dry. A very good every day jacket, just not for Base Camp on K2.

Q: Will this coat keep you dry in heavy rain ?

No. It is fine for a light drizzle, but it doesn't work like a raincoat in a heavy downpour.
