This just arrived yesterday, but looking at it I can tell that this will be a good exercise book for strengthening my left foot after a complete knee replacement. The Hi-Hat in my opinion is just as important as the snare, yet is so often overlooked in most method books. I am very positive about this work and cannot wait to get back behind the kit and start playing again!

A Very good learning tool
I highly recommend using this with software to slow down the tracks without changing the pitch. Like the Amazing Slow Downer [...] or Transcribe! [...]. I like Transcribe! for the UI layout. Happy shedding: )

Title doesn't do it justice
Great book for building independence and foot technique. Much more than hi-hat technique. Excellent advice for beginners for structuring practice routines.

The right choice for skill Level 2
If you have worked through a Level 1 drum book, then I would recommend going with this book as a Level 2 option. I like it a lot because the CD is easy to follow with the written exercises and they beats are played at a resonable tempo, which is unlike any other drum instruction book/CD I have used. So many of those other books assume you are a virtuoso, because the examples are played at blistering high tempos. Not this book. The other thing I like is the practicle nature of the exercises and how it exhaustively covers beat combinations before moving on. This book is worth every nickel.

A totally unnecessary drum book
I own a lot of drumming books from Gary Chaffee's series, Gary Chester's New Breed and many other classic books and more recent publications like Dave DiCenso's Universal Rhythms. Many of them are truly exceptional.I thought I might learn some cool exercises for hihat grooves. But this book is totally disappointing. I don't need 10 pages of the same grooves written out again and again for 4th note or 8th note hihat addition. You could cut the content down to a handful of pages. To me it is the most unnecessary and redunant drum book I ever bought. What this book offers you can do with any other drum book, just add to any written groove the 4th or 8th note hihat. This book doesn't cycle open/closed hihat patterns that are so useful ins syncopated funk or fusion music. There are many drum books that offer much more inspired and useful content concerning hihat exercises. Nothing unique here. Just a boring run-of-the-mill book the drumming world doesn't need.

Ostinati per principianti
Libro elementare per tempi in 4/4 con charleston a battere e a levare. Mi aspettavo un lavoro approfondito su hi hat ma resta un buon manuale per principianti.
