Invisible Kingdom Volume 1

As a former delivery driver, I connect easily with the character. This is an expiring beginning for a journey of contrasting perspectives. I've started the sequel already.

Fun, engaging, timely SF with absolutely gorgeous art!

This was a decent read. The plot was creative, but remarkably current and relatable. The art was ok, and greatly enhanced with bold and vibrant colors. Sometimes I found the coloring to be a little too distracting and confusing, but overall it is some of the best I’ve seen. The paneling and word to panel ratio are both excellent. The lettering is ok, but a little difficult to read sometimes.All that said, for some reason I am not very motivated to get the next volume in the series. In fact, I probably won’t. The first volume concludes satisfactorily, and the only reason to continue is the characters. I didn’t find the characters to be particularly strong, likeable or memorable.Overall, the plot, coloring, and paneling are excellent, but not enough to make me want to hear more about these characters in future adventures.

This book has quite interesting premise and colorful illustrations. That raised enough interest in me to buy it.Unfortunately line art is atrocious when it is present and sometimes it's just non there.Floating monastery and some other ideas look interesting, unfortunately everything else is a huge letdown. Alien designs are absolutely unimaginative and mostly look like a Marvel fanart.Two heroines are stereotypical and lack any depth or character development. All other characters in the book... The best thing I can say about them is they are present to compliment the background.Story itself feels rushed and lacks nuances, but overall one of the redeemable qualities of this book. Unfortunately next one lacks any story development at all and it makes this book even harder to recommend.

Great action with beautiful, colorful graphics that come to life! Looking forward to seeing where the next volume will take Grix and Vess.

Ever since Saga went on hiatus, I have been on the hunt for a compelling yet slightly weird sci-fi epic to fill that hole in my heart. Fortunately, it looks like I may have finally found a substitute with G. Willow Wilson's Invisible Kingdom.Volume 1 tells the story of two very different women. One is a religious acolyte, dedicated to a faith with a strong anti-consumerist slant. The other is basically the space version of a UPS driver, delivering packages for a massive corporation. When these two women separately discover evidence of a vast conspiracy, they find their lives crashing together.The first thing I noticed about Invisible Kingdom, vol 1 is just how gorgeous the artwork is. I fell in love with Christian Ward's work during his run on Black Bolt, and he is equally well suited for this sci-fi epic. The colors are vibrant, and the alien character designs unique. I found myself pausing over several pages just to admire the pretty pictures.But when the book really ended up pulling me in is with Willow's writing, in her exploration of power, faith, and relationships. Not to mention the story gets pretty exciting by the end! Now that our two leads are together, I am eager to see where this story goes next. This is a fantastic series starter, and I highly recommend people check it out.

I really enjoyed Volume One of the maxi-series created by G. Willow Wilson. It's pretty timely with an interesting blend of the influence of mega corporations and religion on society (although in this case, the religion is non theistic, meaning devout followers hope to enter a paradise someday -- a.k.a. "Invisible Kingdom" -- but it is a paradise without a deity). The author and illustrator took care to not closely follow how buildings are designed on earth-- doing the exact opposite in the sci-fi Invisible Kingdom comic, which I thought was a neat idea. The artwork is beautiful and the quality of the paper and book cover is good. Look forward to reading Volume Two!

Interesting premise + solid book overall. But I agree that the story is rushed, and the weak, wishy-washy line art actually hurts the story and characters. It's often hard to tell what's happening in many of the panels. The artist uses lots of shortcuts to avoid drawing faces (i.e. silhouettes, zoomed-out / back-of-head shots). When actually drawn, the faces lack emotion and have a "blurry" quality -- as if the artist hasn't decided yet exactly what the characters should look like. This makes it hard to tell the characters apart and forge a connection to them.

The set up is quick enough- like a movie which needs sequels. I like the character landscape and building and am definitely curious to read more. The art is gorgeous. 4 thumbs up

Es una historia no muy novedosa, pero necesaria para estos tiempos. Willow Wilson entiende eso muy bien y la trama la mantiene fluida e interesante. El arte de Christian Ward es una verdadera pasada.Si les gusta el sci-fi con tintes políticos y religiosos les va a gustar.
