Panasonic DVD-S700 Region Free DVD Player (PAL / NTSC Compatible) Premium Overseas Specification

I was looking for an inexpensive multi-region DVD player to give to a friend.Based on reviews, the Panasonic DVD-S700P-K was the top choice, and the reviews specifically stated "multi-region" (or "region-free").Well, that's not quite accurate.As shipped from Panasonic, it looks like the DVD-S700P-K is restricted to one region (the USA), or to playing the DVDs marked "All".Panasonic *does* provide, on their website, instructions for converting the player to multi-region ... but it's tricky and requires a *second* Panasonic remote control. Ugh.This vendor (and, perhaps, others) has done the conversion for you, and the box comes with a sticker saying "multi-region" (or "region-free"?).So, the TL;DR: if you're looking for multi-region, be *SURE* the Amazon listing clearly states that the player is region free (or multi-region )... as this one nicely does.I tested it out and it worked fine with a region 1 (North America), and a region 2 (Japan) DVD.As for output...it has minimal outputs: one HDMI (regular size) ... CABLE NOT INCLUDED one video out (RCA jack) and two audio out (L/R RCA jack), cable is includedSo, if this is your first HDMI device: 1. check if your TV has HDMI input 2. consider ordering a spare cable from Amazon ... and note that regular cables are just as effective as gold cables (with the possible exception of very long term durability) .... HDMI is *digital*, so unlike audio, gold doesn't make for a better picture!

At $70 this player is $30 more that the LG and Sony units that I tried and sent back; both being ridiculously poor performers. I was especially disappointed in the Sony as it had virtually no on/off light on the front and the unit was very unresponsive to the remote signals. The Panasonic, however, does great in those criteria. My only real gripe is with the remote: IMO, it is far too small, resulting in crowded buttons and small print.

We’ve been using this to watch videos from Western Europe, East Asia, and the USA. Works beautifully. No glitches.

Here–VERBATIM–is how New Era listed the product it sold me: "Panasonic DVD-S700 Region Free DVD Player (PAL / NTSC Compatible) Premium Overseas Specification" The text on the Panasonic package clearly shows: "DVD-S700EP-K" which is NOT a standard Region Free player; true Region Free players are marked "DVD-S700P-K" (no "E"). DVD-S700EP-K players are manufactured for Region 5 (Russia and former Warsaw Pact nations) DVDs–this player was manufactured in Poland and has Polish text on the outer box. Region 5 DVD players AREN'T "Region Free" and will NOT properly play Region 1 NTSC or Region 2 PAL DVDs. The DVD standards of Russia and former Warsaw Pact nations have different IHL (Interlaced Horizontal Lines) specs than Regions 1 & 2. Region 5 uses NIIR (Nautchno-Issledovatelskiy Institut Radio) specs, which is incompatible with U.S and Western Europe standards. Region 5 players make images on Region 1 & 2 DVDs appear disproportionately wider than normal. Given its experience in answering Amazon's Customer Questions about this Panasonic DVD player, and the fact that New Era Products had 11 more such players in stock after selling one to me, it follows that New Era is knowledgeable about the player and understood the difference between a "DVD-S700P-K" and the "DVD-S700EP-K" which it shipped to me: Therefore New Era cannot reasonably claim ignorantia facti excusat. In other words, New Era willfully and knowingly listed a product which it did not have in stock, and took money from me for a product that I did not order. On the other hand, if New Era truly does NOT know the difference between DVD-S700, DVD-S700P-K, and DVD-S700EP-K, perhaps it is not competent to sell such sophisticated items on Amazon Marketplace.

The item description fails to tell you it won't play ALL Bluray discs. This is something that could be clarified in the item description! I felt as if I was duped TBH. Now i have spend even more money to get a truly region free DVD and Bluray player.

I bought this to watch videos made in England. It arrived ONE DAY after I ordered it. It was easy to set up—and I’m not especially tech-savvy.

I bought this easily installed DVD player in order to play Region 1 programs that are not available in the United States. I did think it interesting jack cables were included with the player but not an HDMI cable. The players performance has been excellent.

Unit has rca outputs. This was the main reason to buy because I have an older receiver that only has rca inputs.

リージョンフリープレーヤーは２台目です。１台目は今年の春先に、AmazonでsonyのSDVP-SR370と言うのを買いました。（8000円程度）パッと見はsonyのSDVP-SR370と同じ程度のように感じますが、多少こちらの方が大きいです。機能面での専門的な事は詳しくないですが、どちらもあまり細かい設定等は出来ないです。（比較的安価な日本のディーガも持っていますが、それのように細かい音声設定等はは出来ません)余談ですが、sonyの方のレビューでも書いたのですが、リージョンフリーと言うメーカー正規の商品はありません。すべて業者の人が一度開封してリージョンフリーにして販売しています。ですので、未開封と言う商品は普通に現地のリージョンしか再生されない事がありますのでご注意下さい。（リージョンフリーにするには必ず開封する必要があります）で、こちらの商品ですが以前買ったsonyのSDVP-SR370より音は静かです。sonyのはトレイの開閉やディスクの読み込みの際に結構なガガガッと言う音が出てちょっと心配な感じだったのですが、これは意外と静かでそう言った心配が無いのが良かったです。（だからと言ってsonyのもディスクに傷が付くとかはありませんでしたが）反応や読み込みも早いと思います。動作音については、私の持っているディーガとさほど変わらない気がします。そのsonyのSDVP-SR370ですが、特に壊れた訳ではなく現役で使っているのですが、どうしても音声の点で解消できない問題があって、結局もう1台買って試してみようと思い購入しました。以前のは基本的に満足しているのですが、何故か音声が大きくなったり小さくなったりを繰り返すディスクがあるのです。どう設定を変更してもダメ。テレビから変更してもダメ。特に少し古いDVDだとそうなる傾向があるらしいのですが、かと言って全部がそうでもなく・・・恐らくDVDとの相性なのかと思うのですがどうしてなのか詳しくないのでよく分かりませんでした。なのでこれも少し心配だったのですが、sonyのでダメだったDVDの音声も問題なく再生されました！これは本当に良かったです。機能としてはとにかくシンプルです。私は海外のエクササイズDVDを見るのに購入したのでこれで十分です。映画等は観ていない為分かりませんが、一応HDMI対応なので最低限問題なくキレイに観られるんじゃないかと思います。ちなみに、私は未使用だけど開閉ボタンが不良と言う事でお安くなっている物を買ったので、かなりお買い得でした＾＾（開閉ボタンは爪でぎゅっと押すと一応反応しました）Region-Free-Styleさんの1年保証も付いています。レビューを書けば3年に延長して頂けるようです。その手順等もわかりやすく記された物が同封してあり、親切丁寧な業者さんかと思います。壊れてないのにもい1台買うのはどうかな？と思ってましたが、結果的にに買って良かったです！※追記2022年2月再生中に一瞬止まってしまう事が多くなりました。再生が止まる事は無いですが完全に逝くのも時間の問題かも？リージョン１のDVD用でしたので出番は少なかったですが6年は持ちました。壊れる前に再購入しようと履歴を辿ったら値段が倍になってた！（私が買った時は9800円でした・・・涙）

I used this for over 2 years (Aug 2019-Dec 2021), mainly playing Japanese and UK Region 2 DVDs. So it seems flexible regarding PAL and NTSC standards from the same region. But I finally tried to play a USA Region 1 disc today, and I got a message that my player wasn't from a compatible region! I suspect that there may be a grace period, but that eventually the unit will get frozen into one preference or another.BTW, the output from my remote control was rather weak. Even with fresh batteries, the signal won't go through the glass insert in a cabinet door from 2 meters away or so, unlike the other remotes we're using. Once we open the cabinet door, we spend the time watching our movie or show while guarding our AV equipment from our cats, who love to squeeze in where there are warm electronic gizmos -- not exactly the relaxing evening we were hoping for. So cost-performance is only so-so in long term.

今まで色々なリージョンフリーDVDプレーヤーを購入してきましたが、本機が一番良いと思いました。使いやすく、特に画質の良さがお気に入りです♪あまり安い（とくに一万円以下）リージョンフリーDVDプレーヤーは壊れやすく、後で再生出来るDVDが限られていたりして結局観たいものが再生出来なかったりして二度手間になってしまうことがあります～('Д⊂お値段でかなり基本的な性能力や耐久力が左右されるので（個人的な経験ですが）最低限１万以上の物を購入した方が良いように思いました。（１５０００円以上だったら、より全体的に安定した性能の商品が多いと思います）

イギリスで購入したDVDを今まではPCで見ていたのですが、古いPCのため反応が遅くなり、新しいPCにはDVDドライブがついていないということもあり、マルチのプレーヤーを注文してみました。翌日にすぐに届き、セッティングも想像よりずっと簡単で、すぐに視聴できました！　電源に繋いでHDMIケーブルをつなぎ、リモコンに電池を入れたら、あとは取説を見なくとも簡単に始められます。大きな画面で好きなドラマや映画を見られるのは気持ちいいものです。どうしてもっと早く買わなかったのか、と少し後悔してしまうほどです。　付属のリモコンは小ぶりで少し使いにくいのですが、日本のDVDプレイヤー（うちはディーガです）のリモコンを代わりに使えました。

配達された時、何が届いたのか分からなかった位、軽くて小さいです。小さいので、テレビのスタンドと画面の隙間に設置できます。以前はYAMAHAのリージョンフリーを使っていましたが、リモコンが壊れたのを機に、HDMI対応の本機を購入することにしました。１週間程使用したレビューです。パナソニックなので安心して使えます。画質も良いです。リモコンは小さくて、少々使いにくいのですが、TOSHIBA　REGZAのリモコンでも動かせるので不自由していません。HDMIをつなぐと、REGZAリンクでつながるんですね。これは便利です。
