Dig?
I bought this for two reasons: It's can be disassembled, and it was cheap.I wouldn't buy this item again if I needed a nice tool.that being said, I plan on beating the crap out of this tool, so the cost is worth the item.I purchased it to dig up plants and rocks.It came quick in the mail, taking about 6-7 days.The handle, which the head slides on and off of, doesn't feel like a hard wood. If feels cheap. But that is replaceable if it breaks (even in the field!)The head is very poorly made. I cannot comment on strength of what I assume is steel. It has slag all over it, obviously a cast item, and it's covered with this green paint. It looks horrible.It slides onto the handle and sticks in place well, a few heavy taps on the top will have it disassembled.Again, it'll dig. That's what I need it for. I don't need a pretty product and this fits my size range when working.

Compact and exactly what I was looking for.......
However it was definitely made in China. Approximately 18" sturdy handle with a rough shilac job (why even bother?). The mattock and pick has the worst casting job I ever seen. It should hold up for my purposes......

Great little hand pick for quick jobs. Well constructed very rugged.

Nothing special
I paid about $15 for this hand mattock, and at that price is ok for light garden work but not much else. The head is just soft cast iron so dulls quickly, making it impractical for chopping roots or any hard packed soil/clay digging. And the handle will need much shaving down to make it fit right. Not worth paying anything over $15 though.

My favourite tool for landscaping, but the metal is sub par.
The metal blunts easily, and the head did not fit the shaft very well, I had to file away metal so it would fit snug. Requires assembly (which is understandable, but requires other tools).This tool design is 5/5 for practicality, but the quality of the tool get an average of 3/5.

Great gardening tool
Bought this for my wife who enjoys gardening. She has already use it to make a new flower bed and loves it. Nice size and not too heavy. More gardening projects to come....
