Fun Whittling Projects for Kids and Adults
Chris Lubkemann is the author of "The Little Book of Whittling", a great book for the whittling beginner. This book follows in the same vein with a number of fun projects: kids games, rustic decorations, craft tools, and sellable craft items. There are projects in this book that will appeal to everyone, even though others may be more selective in appeal. Each project is well described and illustrated with color photos. Lubkemann also includes basic instruction photos and detail in the first 10 pages about whittling knife selection, sharpening, and whittling cutting techniques. As in "The Little Book", Lubkemann insets useful little gems of outdoors knowledge along the way, as well as good related advice for tool use (especially since this book may be in the hands of younger readers inexperienced in hand tool use). The projects are all quite easy to do; I intend to do a number of the game projects with my grandchildren when they are a bit older, building the kind of memories that last, even though the project itself may not.I've rated this 4/5 since as an add-on book it shouldn't rank 5/5 as did his "The Little Book...". Additionally, some may not be satisfied with the "yield" they find in this book - that is, the number of projects they personally find useful out of the 31. My opinion is that the book is an enjoyable glimpse into Lubkemann's world of craft-whittling, and that most will find the book entertaining, interesting, and useful for a good number of projects that they or their children or grandchildren will be overjoyed to do and have. While the percentage of those projects may not be high, even one that is precious in a child's eyes will make this book worthwhile.

Projects need more than just a knife.
I was looking for ideas of things to whittle on a camping trip. These projects need more than just a knife. Not at all what I was looking for. Little tips and fun facts scattered throughout are interesting though.

Some More Good Whittling Ideas
I'm tempted to write, "see my other review" of a similar title. This is a good book with some really fun ideas. But is just a collection of whittling ideas, so nothing really profound. Not like it is a hard bound collector's addition or anything.I recommend it for what this book is, some fun ideas for someone getting started in turning bits of wood into things.

Great. Happy we got him the leather finger protectors ...
Well this was a hit as a Christmas present. At first it was purchased as a joke because my stepson started whittling when he was at the house, and started talking about whittling. LITTLE DID I KNOW that it would turn into something he just loves and bought some whittling knives, etc. Great. Happy we got him the leather finger protectors too. He's a little haphazard with the knives. (Oh, he's 26)

Nice projects but not for a child
Bought this book for my 9 year old son along with a knife for his birthday. He had experience using a knife and thoufht this would give him ideas of things to make. We ended up returning the book as the projects were a little to difficult for his skill level (very small items, some with a lot of detail). Perhaps as his skills and coordination improve we would look at this book again.

Grandsons projects.
Bought this book for my Grandson who wanted to learn to whittle. So far he has whittled the oak tree in the front yard into an 8' grizzly bear(just kidding). He actually has whittled a large stick into a small stick with no loss of blood. I look forward to seeing some of his other projects in the near future.

whitle.
I bought this book for my g-son in scouts. He loves it and I like it also. It is used but has no damage at all. Looks like it just left the publisher. This book is worth what it cost.

Not what I had hoped for really.
I think this book is somewhat repetitive. Not only that, the copy I received has a lot of blank pages in it where the printing went hay wire I guess. Not having a printer I wasn't able to print a return label so its stuck with me worst luck. I cant do a lot of the projects due to the missing pages but even if I could there a bit on the naff side. I think I could have found something better than this. Its a bit on the boring side.

Good starter book
I found it hard to find a book in stock about whittling. This was for an 11 yr old boy who has just started to try and whittle when out on walks, it has techniques as well as ideas of things to make - some complex, others such as a simple spoon. He was delighted with it, and the penknife which went with it.

Worth a read for a beginner.
I bought this as I was thinking of starting whittling. There is some useful info on what type of knife is recommended and how to sharpen etc. However many of the projects in the book were not to my liking, but perhaps that's just me. There were however a few projects that I look forward to trying and so the book is worth it just for those. Overall I am glad I purchased this book as as a beginner it has been very informative. Would recommend.
