Small Printer with big results
I have always wanted a laser printer but could never seem to come up with the cash for a descent one. I came across this refurbished printer that was discounted to a very affordable price for me (I paid less than $100). I couldn't justify not buying it - and I am glad I did. I bought this printer just before Christmas 2010 as a gift to myself. The printer is the perfect size to fit on the limited space I have on my desk. If you use the instructions that come on the cd in pdf then you will find the setup to be very easy. I found the printed instructions very limited. I originally set it up to only use with one computer but eventually I added my wireless laptop. The wireless setup was extremely easy since the instructions on the cd will walk you through every step (I always find youtube.com to be a great help for visual instructions).I purchased an extra black toner cartridge because I wasn't sure if one was going to be included or if it was, how long it will last. Well, I am still using the toner that came with the printer. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it also came with color toner cartridges. I print, on average, 8 pages a day (this includes me, my spouse, our two kids and even our grandchild) and the black toner has yet to give any sign it is running low. If you are looking to print pages in color, this printer does a great job but not so great when it comes to printing photos. I was a little disappointed about that but that's my own fault because nowhere in the product description did it state that it prints photos - but I was hoping. Once you hit the print button it takes a few seconds to get warmed up but once it gets going it prints out at a descent and acceptable speed for me. It's also a nice quiet printer that emits very limited sound which was a welcome relief after using my old inkjet printer.I've only owned the printer a short time but all in all I am very happy with it. If you can get it at a good price I say go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

SO FAR THIS HAS BEEN GREAT!
I've had this printer since just last week and it is working fine. After reading the many user reviews, I was dreading the installation. I found some of the reviewer's information conflicting and or wrong. So here is the complete story of my experience. My objective was to use the printer on my network wirelessly. I installed the printer on two different operating systems on 4 separate computers. My equipment information is as follows:The first computer is a Dell Latitude 9300 running Windows XP. The second is a 13" Mac Book bought in 2008, running Leopard v 10.5 and the 3rd is an Apple IMAC (desktop), running Snow Leopard v10.6. The 4th is really a virtual operating system meaning I'm also running Parallels deskTop5 for Mac that allows me to run Win XP on my IMAC as well therefore, from the Samsung printer's viewpoint, this IS a separate computer and demands a separate install like the others. The broadband router I use is a Linksys wireless G 2.4GHz.FIRST THINGS FIRST:If your network is secure (as it should be) you'll need to get the MAC address of the printer off the side of the carton and add that to your router for wireless to work. After you initially connect the printer to your router, you'll need the IP address of the printer and you find that by printing the Network Configuration Report on the Samsung printer by pressing and holding the only button on the printer for 5 secondsINSTALLS:The Samsung Network Installation Guide that came packed with my printer bears the following version number JC68-02236CV100 on the back cover. I mention this because others have said that the information is crap. I don't agree as it WORKED PERFECTLY for me. The instructions were pretty clear and for me, relatively easy to follow and I'm 62 years old.WINDOWS xp INSTALL:To install your printer on a Window XP, follow the install instructions starting on page 5 Section C of the guide titled "Installing the printer on a wireless network with an Access Point (Windows)." This is a "typical" home configuration and all this means is that you have internet (and possible TV and Phone) coming into your home through a modem that the cable company provided and then you have a router (like my Linksys wireless G) to broadcast the internet signal to your computers to enable a wireless connection experience.APPLE Installs (Leopard O/S and Snow leopard O/S):I followed the instructions in the Samsung Network Installation Guide that appeared on page 7, Section F, titled "Installing the printer on a wireless network with an Access Point (Macintosh)" and installed the printer on my IMAC that runs Snow Leopard. I followed the same procedure to install the printer on my MacBook laptop. Finally, I returned to my IMAC, opened up Parallels desktop 5 which then created a Window XP environment on my IMAC and again followed the "Installing the printer on a wireless network with an Access Point (Windows)" instructions.SOME POINTERS:-READ the instructions, then RE-READ the instructions and follow them exactly-Be sure you network ID name/SSID is a name that DOES NOT have a space in it as some have reported that the printer will not install correctly. Thus, a name like BOBS CRIB needs to be renamed to BOBSCRIB-Be sure to set a STATIC IP address or the printer will not work wirelessly on a continual basis.PRINTER COMMENTS:The unit is compact and sleek although the pictures of the unit don't show that the paper tray sticks out of the front 3 1/2 inches. I can confirm that the unit is very quit, fast enough and prints as good as my HP LaserJet P2015 black and white printer. As others have mentioned, the unit does emit an odd "chemical" smell when printing which could overwhelm the senses if printing in a small space. After I printed the a the first document which was the Network Configuration Report that you evoke by pressing and hold the only button on the printer for 5-10 seconds, I noted that it reported that several pages were printed as opposed to one page. This seems to indicate that the printer's software will prematurely tell me I need more toner.DID THIS HELP YOU?These take considerable time to write so let Amazon know if this information was useful or not so I'll know too. Thanks.
