Loud, easy to operate, big display
On its loudest setting, this is LOUD. However, you can easily change the volume, and on medium it’s loud enough to hear in another room without being at risk of waking the dead. The controls are simple, and the buttons are large. The display is also large. It takes common AA batteries, not coin cells.Downsides: not cheap, quite a big box, one of the buttons is a bit wobbly (but still works perfectly).I’d recommend this for everyone, but I *strongly* recommend it for elderly people, those with poor hearing, or those with poor eyesight.

Simple. Perfect. NOT to loud.
Brilliant! Better than expected. No gimmicky, complicated clock, duel settings, modes etc. Just a well made timer. The buttons work perfectly, unlike all the cheaper ones I've ever had, where if you press 'start', they often sort of double press onto 'stop'. The switch on the side sets the volume to 3 levels, which is REALLY useful! The lowest setting is bit more quiet than my old timer. I have just compared them. The pattern of the alarm is 3 beeps, then the 4th beat is missing - repeated. The set of 4 beats lasts 1 second, which is a third slower than my old, cheap, tacky white one, which had the same beep pattern. The pitch of this is a bit higher and is not annoying. Its magnets stick very tightly to a fridge or radiator. It is about an inch thick, and feels strong, heavy and nice. Didn't know that 'Salter' is a 260 year old British company, although this is made in China.

Good timer. Sound's a bit alarming
This is a good timer; sturdy, easy to use, has the functions needed. But it sounds a lot like our smoke alarms. It's a bit disconcerting, even at its lowest volume.

Disappointing fur a Salter product
Alarm doesn’t work , resets to 0 when wanting to set alarm . Flimsy compared to the one I had for 10+ years … very disappointing !!

OK. Functional. Alarm sound v piercing/not nice sound
Pros:- Easy to setup/use. Timer and countdown function.- Three loudness settingsCons:- Alarm v high pitched/piercing in terms of tone. This makes easy to hear but such a nasty sound I end up trying to turn off just before timer ends to avoid hearing it!- Gaps between buttons. Not great in terms of hygiene/cleanability.- Angle. Find screen hard to see as either sits at right angle to worksurface or directly sitting up. A 45 degree angle like the Heston model would be better.- Unit can't be turned off so screen constantly on/draining battery.I was between this and the Salter Heston model, both some mixed reviews but not sure I would purchase this again

Well made, weighty, easy to use, loud
Bought this for my mam who has arthritis in her hands. She'd had a cheap plasticky effort before but because it was light and the twist key was hard to grip, she dropped it and it smashed to pieces. She loves this new Salter one. The turn key is easy for her to grip, not needing lots of force. The flat base and stainless steel casing give it enough weight to sit on a bench and not easily be knocked off or over. What she likes most is that the ring is LOUD - she says that there is no chance of missing it. I think it is a quality looking but wonderfully simple bit of kitchen kit, good enough looking that you won't want to hide it away.
