Mr. Beams MB 723 MB723 Battery-Powered Motion-Sensing LED Stick-Anywhere Nightlight, 3-Pack

This arrived in the mail yesterday and I immediately had places for all them. What do I like about these? I love that they are motion activated and don't require me to try and find it #1 and then try to either find the button to turn it on like other lights or try to fidget with it during the middle of the night when you are half asleep to plug it in. Unlike most night lights they don't have to be on all the time and they don't require a plug. I have very limited outlets in my house so the ones I do have are highly sought after and pretty well taken up by one thing or another. I always have to get up at least once a night whether that is to go to the bathroom let the dog out, figure out what that noise was, the list goes on. Having some sort of light that will turn on when all I do is walk past it is awesome. I no longer have to fight to plug in the night light (if I can find it because I had to plug the vacuum into the outlet the night light was plugged into). It was a nightmare before. I now have the 1 outlet I have in my bathroom free from having to have the night light plugged in, SO WONDERFUL! THE CONS TO THIS LIGHT ARE: 1. The sticky pads they come with tore the paint off my wall when I tried to adjust the light. So I worry about when I want to take them off what will the others do to the paint? I think that command strips would be better to hang them up. Command strips come off the wall a lot better than the sticky pads they came with, though I wonder if the command strips are strong enough to hold these up. I would like to try it but I don't want to rip anymore paint off my walls. I would recommend trying the command strips first before using the sticky pads they came with to put these up. I wish they had something that would peel off the wall a little easier. 2. Last night when I woke up I noticed that the light I set up in the bathroom was on. I don't know why because my husband was asleep in bed with me, the dog was snoring on the floor at the foot of the bed, and there was no one else up or moving around. So either A. we have ghosts or the elf that lives around the house (Ya know the one that steals all your stuff, or the one that broke your favorite lamp because no one else did it) is setting these off OR the more likely reason is that they do go off with having no motion which means a shorter battery life. The lights require 4 AA batteries which is quite a bit if you have more than 1 of these lights that you are trying to put up. 3. They are pretty big, though with that they do put out a lot of light. I was impressed when I took a shower this morning and didn't feel like I needed to turn the light on to shower. I did have to keep opening the shower door though to keep the light on after it would turn off with no motion. I still wish that they were just a bit smaller than they are. It would make putting them in tight places a bit easier. That isn't a huge a concern though. This has nothing to do with why I don't like them, just a note for those about to buy them. I did have a hard time trying to figure out where on earth to put the battery. The instructions kept saying to unscrew the 2 screws when all I was seeing was 1 screw. I had unscrewed that screw and kept trying to take the back off but it wouldn't come off. Once I realized there is a plate that you have to SLIDE off, I found that second screw and it was easy from there. I am sure I can't be the only one who had that problem or will have that problem so watch out for that. Once you got it from there it was easy as a calk walk to install and put up. OVERALL these are great lights with a few minor flaws. Nothing I felt like worth docking it 1 star. I am still happy to have them and glad I purchased them. I don't regret that at all. The motion sensor is so nice to have and that does seem to work well when you walk past it. I haven't had any problems yet with that not working or the light not turning on when I want it to.

LOVE my new motion lights and they are exactly what I wanted (with one minor problem). First, ==THE REASON== I bought these. I have a 12-year-old 15lbs rescue dog (Zorro) with early stage Cushing's Syndrome. Almost overnight, he began having eyesight problems. His eyes took too long to adjust when walking from a lighted hallway, into the master bedroom (if my husband is sleeping, or I am sleeping, we obviously didn't turn the room light on, but used the hallway light as a guide). Then after we noticed this, within a few weeks, Zorro went blind in one eye due to a mature cataract. But the problem was when he moved around at night in the bedroom. Dogs with Cushing's drink a lot of water, so he would get up from his bed often to drink and we would hear him bumping into furniture or being stuck not knowing where to turn. A nightlight, even as dim as possible, was NOT an option because I have a hard time falling asleep with any light. So a motion sensor light that turned off after a few seconds was the PERFECT option. If there's light AFTER I fell asleep, then it does not wake me up. This Mr. Beams light was the perfect fit for what I needed, especially being the 3-pack because we wanted to spread 3 lights in different parts of our bedroom, including one that leads to the bathroom so no more bumping our toes on furniture at night! ==THE PROBLEM== - Out of 3 lights, two were white lights and ONE was a warm yellow. We liked the YELLOW better because the whites were too bright and sort of blueish. Warm yellow was more cozy and gave the right amount of light anyway. I came to Amazon to see if anyone else had this problem and found several people who also received different lights. Most people liked the white light better. How funny. People have different tastes and of course different USES for these lights. To be honest, both my husband and I, hated the white light for the bedroom. Maybe to light up a closet, pantry, etc... the white would be fine. I called customer service on a Friday, got a voice mail and left a message. The lady called me back on Monday but I was unable to answer. We ended up playing phone tag for a while, but in the meantime, I was desperate to use the lights so my dog would not bump into things anymore. By the time I finally got to talk to the Mr. Beams lady, I told her what the problem was, but then I said that I had fixed the problem myself, and was happy with the outcome. She still offered to replace the white lights, but I told her it was not necessary anymore. ==THE SOLUTION= - Cellophane plastic wrap!!!!! To be more exact, YELLOW cellophane! Yep.. that see-through plastic used to wrap flowers, gift baskets or for candy/treats bags. I already had a yellow roll that I once bought at Michael's craft store. (If you don't need a big roll, go to a Party store and look for little cellophane candy bags of various colors.) Then.. Double-sided tape is the trick!!! One layer of cellophane was not enough, I wanted a darker yellow so I had to use 2 layers. As in: double-sided tape, cellophane, double-sided tape again, cellophane again. I cut it neatly to fit over the Mr. Beams LED light, stuck it there, and VOILA!!! Happy!! Happy!! Happy!! It's the perfect warm yellow and amount of light we needed. And works PERFECTLY when my dog moves around the room. I just wish it had a setting to auto-turn-off in less than 30-seconds. Oh, yes, I also put the cellophane over the original YELLOW LED light, but used just one layer. Got it pretty close to the other two that had white LEDs. Now the best part of using cellophane, is that you can change the colors in the future if you wish. Depending what you are using these lights for... how about doing red/white/blue for 4th of July? Or red and green lights for Christmas? Or orange for Halloween? Just peel the old cellophane, add new ones and ta-daaa.. you have different color lights! I understand that this is not a fix for those who received yellow lights and wanted them white. In my case, it was the other way around, so I hope this helped those in the same situation. I added pics of what I did. See the custom pics section. Oh... and for those who complained about the included tape not sticking and the item falling off... Does it really deserve a star less on your review because of THAT?? Come on people... Puleeeeze!! Ever heard of Command Strips???? Don't sweat the small stuff!

UPDATE 2018 Had these for about 3 years now and all three are still working great. I get about 9 - 10 months of life on a set of batteries before the light becomes noticeably dimmer. I use Rayovac alkaline batteries. I see some reviews state getting only a few weeks of battery life and I'm thinking they must've got a knock off product or a bad batch. The battery life on these is my favorite part of this product. I can also verify that these do go into a constant on mode when the batteries get very weak and need to be changed. I've seen it, so rechargeable ni-mh batteries will get damaged being used in these. (original review) I bought these 6 months ago and installed one of the three and put the other two away till a time came along I needed them. Well that was today, the main light in my hallway stairs died and I've been stumbling through the dark. Not anymore. The one I originally installed is at the top of the stairs coming into my apartment. It's always dark over there and only gets light rarely so most of the time whenever someone enters or leaves the light switches on. It's been 6 months and its still lighting bright on the same set of rayovac alkalines I put in it on day one. The light sensitivity sensor appears to be well tuned, when their is enough light to see by it stays off, when their isn't it turns on. I like that for saving power. The sensitivity of the motion detection works well also. It picks up people approaching from the side of it very well, (handy for stairwells and hallways) and also has excellent straight ahead sensitivity. The build quality if good, I completely tore one down to have a look at what makes it tick. The circuit board has a fair amount of quality components on it and is layed out intelligently showing that some effort went into the process of designing it. The board is held in by screws not gobs of hot glue like you see on many cheap Chinese products. All solder joints looked well done and the wire is more than thick enough for the job. The double sided tape that comes in the box. I'm not sure what makes people think you can stick it to your wall with that and then remove it later and not destroy your paint and possibly the sheet rock. It is just standard inexpensive double sided tape with foam in the middle to help it adhere to uneven surfaces. It looks nothing like name brand Command Strips. I used picture hanging Command Strips on the first light They are two piece one side for the wall, one side for the unit and locking Velcro like material in the middle. They work excellent. For the second light I'm using Blue Tack, which is that blue stuff you roll in your fingers then stick it on the item then stick it on the wall. It wont damage the wall when removed and can be reused. This light is brightef than a standard night light and has great longevity on batteries. This is accomplished by using 4 AAs instead of 3 like you see in many led flashlight's or worst 2 or 1 like they use in lawn ornament lights. Using 4 allows them to step the voltage down for the led, which is more efficient, and because there's just more capacity because of the extra batteries you can go longer with out having to change them. This is a great product, and I payed full price for it and was not supplied with anything for free. I endorse it soley to help out other shoppers. I include this note only because I feel free sample reviews are beginning to water down the quality of the reviews here on Amazon which otherwise is an amazing place to purchase products.

We have been using these lights for about 4 months now and have generally liked them. I have only two concerns, which I will address at the end of the review. I purchased the lights because one of our cats is afraid to use his litter box in the dark. I could not leave the light on and needed a solution. This seemed like the perfect solution, and it was. They light up the area, but not so brightly that they wake up the household. And, instead of hanging the lights, I set them on the floor at cat height. I have one aimed outside the door of the room in which the litter box is located and one in the actual closet in which it is located. Both of our cats love these lights. they figured out very quickly they could turn the lights off and on by themselves and they play with the lights. That they are a cat toy is an unexpected bonus. The other lights are used in our guest room, though we have not yet had guests to test them out. I think I will put one by the basement steps, as well. It will not blind us, but will light up the steps. I will probably get more lights in the future for my parents and grandma for when they first come home and when they get up in the middle of the night. I may also purchase them for our homeless shelter since we usually have people stay there who are unfamiliar with the place and have to get up in the middle of the night to use the facilities. I like the idea of setting them on the floor because they light up the floor where people are stepping. But I could easily see putting them around knee or hip height to light up the floor and give a little more light up higher. The only cons about the lights are that one has to unscrew the back to change the batteries. That means if one hangs the lights with any sort of permanent or semi-permanent hanger, battery changing will be a real chore. So I probably will use hooks that are designed to hang pictures to hang the lights if I don't just leave them setting on a table or the floor. The second con may not be the fault of the light and I want to be up front about that. I had the lights setting out in the bathroom, one of which was on the floor in front of the bathtub. I do not think it got wet, but the humidity may have been too much for it. It began turning itself off and on constantly a few weeks ago. I thought the moisture might have done something to the contacts and I cleaned them. I also cleaned the batteries. When that didn't solve the problem, we changed the batteries and that seemed to fix it. So, I think it started turning off and on because the battery was low. Unfortunately, it started in the middle of the night when we were not happy about dealing with the situation. If that is the way the light notifies us it is low on power, I wish it had a different method of telling us. If you read this entire review and realized the batteries went low on one of the lights after less than 4 months, I do not think that will be true for most people. Because of it's location, I suspect that particular light is turned off and on 100 times a day between people and cats walking past the bathroom, into the bathroom, and cats playing with it.

Bought one of these in 2013, then after liking it so much I bought a 3-PACK. I think one of them turned out to be a dud, but I don't remember if it had issues with motion detection or what happened. It wasn't dropped, and for the price I paid back then I didn't make a fuss. But, the one we've used in the bedroom has gone strong for over a decade and saved my wife and I from MANY MANY toe-injuries. You see, generally people like to keep the bedroom dark. Ours is often pitch-black. Well, if you do have to get up during the night, without any kind of light you're asking for trouble. I'd be falling over furniture, or the corner of the bed, or stubbing my toe. I think both of us stubbed our toes several times and I about had it! So I started looking for motion lights and I liked the idea of battery operated ones that could be moved anywhere. I found a location on the floor in the bedroom next to a dresser (toward the bottom of our bed) where if either my wife or I get out of the bed and walk a step or two, the motion light will activate. This lights up plenty bright and we have it flipped upside down so the light shines down toward the floor instead of lighting up the entire room. It's even nice during the day if it's an overcast day and the blinds are down since the bedroom can be dark. I gave one to my parents as well. If these ever die, I'm buying another. I'm sure there's some cheaper options, but enough products are built like junk and die prematurely -- so when I find a solid product I stick with it! The batteries last a long, long while. I might switch them out once a year and that's about it, even though it activates multiple times each day. Great product & well worth the cost!

The brightness is 20 lumen on the datasheet. For illuminating the corridors and bathroom without turning on the lights, it is adequate. The single LED shines downloads, diffused by the white reflective plate also as the casing. It is bright enough for going around without light bulbs, without hurting your eyes by the LED. The size is about 4 AA batteries and then some. If you want it still smaller you can find some with AAA betteries or two AA batteries. I use over 2000 mAH rechargables and I never recharged any Mr Beams. The 1st one I have is a couple of months old. The screws holding the battery compartment door is of good quality. But the problem is it's is not for screw drivers, more like quarters. I would think a philips screw driver is more common than quarters at home nowadays. And a screw driver is designed to unscrew and screw screws. The light sensor and motion detection work flawlessly. You will be fine as long as you don't put Mr Beams under the desk and your rooms are not too huge. The motion sensor seems to be omnidirectional. One other brand claims to have a 90 deg downwards angle at twice the price. That would be suitable to put inside bedrooms so if you are reading in bed your motion will not trigger the LED. But I still put Mr beam inside bedrooms. It is not difficult to find positions to put Mr Beams so movements on bed will not trigger it. My priority is to find emergency lights during power outage. Their design are more complicated, more expensive, and you never know if they still works unless you test them. Ideally you never use them so you normally pay for nothingness. I considered AC ones but the problem is that outlets are mostly under the desk or at some hidden, blocked locations. Both sensors cannot work well under those conditions. The advantage of Mr Beams over emergency lighting is that kids and adults alike are trained everyday where the "emergency" lights are. It will be the same during power outages as you wake up in the middle of usual nights and go to the fridge or bathroom without touching any switches. I use high capacity rechargables so it's a matter of replacing them when the LED goes out or dim. I have abandonce of Mr Beams in the house so it's highly unlikely many of them goes out at the same outage. You can also refresh the batteries regularly, I would guess every couple of months. Testing them is like a walk around the house without turning on the lights.

I bought a set of these in November 2012 and they have worked FLAWLESSLY for about 8-9 months. Then 2 started not turning off after 30 seconds, or the same 2 would randomly turning on ocassionally in the dark with no motion detected, or turn on, go off, and then turn on again (immediately and repeatedly) all by themselves with no motion detected. Replacing the batteries temporarily fixed the problem, but then they started doing it over again with the fresh batteries in place. NOTE: WHEN I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SUPPORT, THEY SAID THIS BEHAVIOR WAS AN INDICATION TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES! I do not recall seeing that little bit of info in the product info that came with the lights, so here it is for everybody to see... Additionally, when I contacted the Mr. Beam Customer Service, I talked to "Mr Beam" himself (what a pleasant surprise!)! The Mr Beam Customer Service Department is out of this world great! THEY ARE SENDING REPLACEMENT LIGHTS AND A PREPAID LABEL TO RETURN SHIP the "bad actors" so they can figure out the problem. NO EXPENSE TO ME!! I call that FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE. A company that interested in analyzing and fixing the problem is worth noticing an doing business with! But to the point: as I am in a wheelchair, having these lights strategically placed in my and my cousin's home has saved me from going out an exterior door with no ramp, running over my pet cat (which would have killed the cat), and bumping into furniture. They saved my cousin from falling down a flight of steps (he is 70 years old), and from stepping on the cat as well! Many reviews have said the sticky tape included does not support the lights on a wall. My solution was to get self adhesive velcro strips, and they work great. Better yet, I got some 3M Command extra small hooks that fit the indentations on the unit. They don't mar the wall paint or necessitate drilling a hole in the wall to support the wall bracket (I hate to put holes in a wall...), and they remove quickly without messing up the wall surface. Actually, the 3M picture hanging tape works great as well with the same results (easy, removeable, no trace on wall surface when removed). MY ONLY COMPLAINTS ARE: 1) I wish the light sensor could be adjusted so as not to activate the lights in really low ambient light situations (like a hallway or room not fully lit with bright daylight) before these lights automatically turn on (that is, to be able to manually adjust the light sensitivity setting); and 2) the battery compartment had a clip (or snap type) closure instead of a screw closure. My old arthritic hands have a hard time managing a screwdriver at times, and a clip (snap) closure would fix that problem nicely! The motion sensing is ideal, and I am overall VERY PLEASED with my purchase. I never expected, and was pleasantly surprised by the superior caliber of their Customer Service. I plan on ordering more of these lights in the near future! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!

When my Sylvania 72178 Motion Activated Battery Powered Safety Light magnetiacally attached to the metal posts of my stairs rails stopped working after being knocked down the stairs one too many times by my 4 year old, I thought I'd try something else. I knew I'd position lights in different locations than where Sylvanias were located, so I decided to try something new. These had good reviews and seemed cheaper. Well, the "cheaper" idea was the first one to be disproved because Mr. Beams lights come without batteries while Sylvanias come with batteries, plus Sylvanias use only 3 AAAs vs. 4 AAs in these, and Sylvanias occasionally dip below $10 making them a better deal, in my opinion. Anyway, I kept my mind open and proceeded with the installation of Mr. Beams. I noticed immediately an overall lower quality feel of Mr. Beams. This was in everything from the type of plastic to little plastic artifacts that remained from making the the lights at the factory. This was not a big deal though, becasue the lights would be positioned a foot of the floor, so it would not be very noticeable. When I tried to install batteries, I noticed that the battery compartment door is secured by TWO screws. Does the light designer at Mr. Beams have a battery-stealing-gnomes problem? To replace batteries, one would need a screwdriver unless you ask your wife to unscrew them with her nails. Also the screws are not attached to the battery compartment door in any way, and once unscrewed they can easily fall out, this could have been avoided by using a small tight washer like it is in many other devices that use screws for their battery doors. That said, I think, a simple latch would be a more convenient solution. When installing the lights, I thought that the sticky tape would not work on the flat finish painted drywall and it did not. The lights fell off in 20 minutes, so I I screwed the included brackets to the wall, and the lights are secure now From this point on everything seemed to work well. Lights turned on from the motion and illuminated stairs very well at night. I was happy with them, until I noticed that one of the lights was turning on even during the day when there was plenty light around it. This light would come on even while the other two light (one of which was in a less well lit area) stayed off until much darker conditions. I am guessing the photo sensor in this light was not working properly and was not telling the light to ignore the motion during the day. I requested replacements, and will update this review, but I wish I went with Sylvanias which served me very well for almost 4 years with only one battery change (FYI, as spec'd these lights use 4AAs per year). UPDATE: Replacements have arrived and I just replaced the one faulty light. It works properly now and stays off during the day. However, one of the battery door screws on this replacement light is tighter than all other screws which implies inconsistent quality.

Turns on automatically when dark if there is movement nearby. mr beams is great for dark passages or near the front door when coming home in the dark.

Die Beams-LED ist wirklich ideal um im dunklen für das Licht zu sorgen, das man braucht um nirgendwo anzustoßen. Der Tageslichtsensor verhindert, dass Tagsüber unnötig das Licht angeknipst wird und wenn es dann dunkel wird reagieren sie prompt, dabei allerdings recht sensibel. Wie sie sich im freien schlagen würden weiß ich deswegen nicht, allerdings sind sie dafür auch nicht gedacht und damit auch keinen Abzug in der B-Note. Das Licht ist dabei nicht super-hell, aber absolut ausreichend um eben das nötigste zu sehen und dabei auch nicht zu blenden. Ich habe dabei beim ersten Versuch in einen Beam(s) die Batterien eingelegt, die aus dem Wii Balance Board kamen und dieses nicht mehr betreiben konnten. Für die Beams hat der Reststrom aber noch für diverse Aktivierungen über einen Zeitraum von etwa 3 Wochen gereicht. Die neuen Batterien im zweiten Beam(s) halten nun schon eine ganze Weile länger... Ein kleiner Nachteil ist, dass man nicht wahrnimmt, wenn die Batterien aufgeben. Die LED wird deswegen nicht dunkler oder es ist mir zumindest nicht aufgefallen - irgendwann geht einfach das Licht nicht mehr an... Aber auch das ist für mich kein Grund einen Punkt(Stern) abzuziehen...

This is a great light for use in an outside building . I am using my in an outdoor toilet where there is no electric. It is replacing a similar one I have had for years.
