The board itself has a great amount of documentation
Only just starting to see the tip of the iceberg with this device but from what I've done so far its been very reliable. The minimum software it requires is free and Quartus has a large user base to refer to. The board itself has a great amount of documentation. Not much else to ask for here, solid.

Amazing board, price is a little high
These are awesome dev boards, seriously. The Cyclone IV on offer here is amazing, lots of useful outputs in the form of LEDs, an accelerometer, two tack buttons, and 4 dip switches. That's all cool. However, the price is very high here. The Cyclone V board is currently out at the same price as this one, with 1GB of DDR3 on board and an ARM coprocessor. This is an awesome board, especially for hobby all the way up to professional use, it really really is, but the price here is a tad high.

Software discs are blank
The software discs accompanying the device are blank... essentially making this thing worthless to me.

This is a good board, but it's drastically overpriced from this seller
This is a good board, but it's drastically overpriced from this seller. It can be purchased directly from Terasic for $79.00. Also, they have a newer version build around the Cyclone V chip, with an integrated dual core ARM processor.

This is one of my favorite development boars
This is one of my favorite development boars. Terasic of Taiwan has done a superb job of packaging and documentation and providing a boxed product looking more like a mass market retail item. As we know, engineering products can be bug prone and badly put together (Digilent anybody?), this one truly includes more then you would expect. I recommend you also get some male to female DuPont jumper wires to hook it up to your breadboard for experimenting and prototyping. It comes with Altera Quartus but it may not be the most recent edition.

Nice board to get started with FPGA (Verilog, System Verilog, VHDL)
Nice board. Supports System Verilog HDL as well. Upgraded from a Xilinx based LX9 MicroBoard. Altera's university program has good detailed instructions online. Also the Terasic CDROM has some examples. My notes to get started are at[...]Price is much better elsewhere. Especially if you're eligible for academic discount.
