Zojirushi Stainless Steel Mug, Black, 16 Ounce

Awesome bottle literally keeps my coffee hot for 9 hours. The stainless steel color is amazing, No leaks, easy to grip, handle and wash. Still looking forward to the durability and versatility besides that 10/10. You should definitely give it a Try!!!

I will confess first, before I begin, that I have a pretty strong bias toward Japanese products. This is going back to the days when Sony had no equal in electronics, and when Toyota/Honda were leading the small car revolution. With that said, please forgive me if I sound too impressed with this home run of a mug purchase.I had heard that zojirushi made good products, but I've had some bad travel mugs and figured it could have been just another cash-in on brand power. I ordered the stainless steel 12oz because I needed a small one for easy travel (most of my travel is on foot or on bike, living in a big city and all), and when it came, I did thorough investigation of its capabilities.Immediately, I went to the kitchen sink. I filled the mug with water, sealed on the cap, locked the lid, and proceeded to turn it sideways, hold it upside-down, swing it around, shake it vigorously (while still upside-down too!), I pretty much did everything I could, short of anything that might damage the mug. Not a single drop came close to wetting my hand or anywhere else. I even wiped the counter with a rag afterward, just to see if I missed something. It was bone-dry.Next came Coffee. I love coffee, drinking several cups a day and switching to decaf so I can drink more in the afternoon and after dinner. I filled this mug up with fresh coffee, and even half an hour later I almost had to nurse drinking it to avoid burning myself; The coffee was practically just as hot as when I had poured it. I proceeded to comfortably drink hot coffee for several hours without any need to reheat or refill my mug (except of course, for more coffee). Amusingly, it even kept coffee hot longer than the insulated coffee pot did! (funny that one, maybe I should get a zojirushi coffee maker too)Lastly, the ease of operations challenge. They claim that it's easy to open this mug, drink, and then close it, all with one hand. I will admit, at first it took me a little bit of getting used to the operation, but within a few days at most I was using it fluidly with one hand, which was perfect for my commute, or when shopping at busy downtown markets. I could walk through thick crowds (this is pre-covid of course) and not have any problems with opening it, drinking more coffee, and closing it. Of course, it was still hot even when walking in the nippy winter air.This really is my idea of a perfect travel mug. You can't make it leak (even when you throw it sideways into a purse for a few hours), you really can use it one-handed, and it really does keep the drinks hot. I've done tea in this as well and it was just as good an experience; Never tried hot cocoa as zojirushi advises against milk products being used (If I recall correctly, it was something to do with the pressurized, sealed containers being able to build pressure due to milk doing what milk does). Regardless, what I've asked of it, the mug has proceeded to do with flying colors. I cannot recommend this mug strongly enough. If you ever find yourself wanting to have a small, reliable, and easy-to-use travel mug, then you cannot go wrong with zojirushi.

This is a real vacuum flask. I've used a real-deal vacuum flask for my morning coffer for years now and there's no going back. The "themal" cups you get in super markets don't keep your beverage hot... a true vacuum flask will! I bring this everywhere with me, and panic when I don't have it. I call it my "battery pack". I'm a coffee addict, what can I say?Up until now, I've used the ones made by Thermos (the "Nissan" model and more recently, the newer models with the white tops like the NS402 series). They set the standard in the market. I loved my Thermoses, but they kept breaking on me. I was going through a couple a year. They also only come in the 16 ounce size. I decided to try this Zojirushi as an alternative and because they come in both 16 ounce and this 12 ounce version. I love it!The thermal properties are great! This will still keep my coffee scary hot for hours and hours. The stats: 203 degree F water left in a room temp environment will still be 147 F after 6 hours. That's without the lid being opened at all, so real-world performance varies a bit, but this is still excellent performance for keeping coffee or tea hot. You can see the full details and specs on Zojirushi's website: [...]. They are much more transparent than Thermos. Thermos gives you a very vague "keeps hot/cold for X hours" spec, but only tells you what they mean by that (the actual performance metrics) on a sheet that comes in the box rather than anywhere you could find that info on their site or in their product description pages on Amazon. To be honest, the Thermos models do have technically better heat/cold retention on paper, but we are talking very marginal differences that don't matter much in the real world. Put boiling water in this mug, come back to it 4 hours later and it is still hot enough to scald you. If you need better than that, then Thermos makes some even heavier duty models, but they aren't designed to be sipped from.Like the Thermos models I had, this is a flip-and-sip design. The lid flips open with the push of a button and makes for easy sipping. This action minimizes the air exposure (ie heat loss) when you take a sip as opposed to the kind where you have to actually remove the whole lid to get at your drink. The Zojirushi lid, however, is much better-designed than the Thermos mugs.The sip hole is better shaped and sized for a smoother pour and smoother sip. It also feels more durable, opens more smoothly, and easily comes apart for easy cleaning, including all the rubber pieces (very nice). Much better than the Thermos offerings. The lid has a locking mechanism in the way of slick switch that slides side to side, locking the lid so that it doesn't flip open accidentally. The Thermos mugs only have a metal clip that swings over to latch the lid in place (and which can easily come loose and be not so easy to disengage when you are in a rush.I love that the Zojirushi mugs come in both 16 ounce and 12 ounce. I got the 12 ounce for two reasons. First, to encourage me to drink less coffee (I drink 1-2 cups per day, so that's 12-24 ounces a day as opposed to 16-32 ounces a day). Second, because even though the 16 ounce Zojirushi has better thermal specs, that is simply due to the added mass of the liquid in the mug (more mass, equals more thermal inertia). If you don't fill your 16 ounce mug all the way up, it will loose heat faster because there's more air in contact with the liquid. You get better real-world performance with a smaller mug, drank more quickly, than with a bigger mug where that last half is getting 8 ounces of fresh air mixed into it with every sip. Yes, I've put a lot of thought into this. This also probably (partially) explains the better on-paper performance metrics of the Thermos mugs (they only have 16 ounce). OK, enough thermodynamics.Another thing I love about the Zojirushi is options: not only can you get multiple sizes, but there are two version of this model mug, one with a "non stick coating" that is supposed to minimize clean up (KB), and this model here that does not have the non-stick coating and instead has a highly polished stainless ("Slick Steel") interior (KHE). Now, I don't know what the nonstick coating actually is, but I try to avoid anything with PTFE (Teflon) and generally try to avoid substances I don't know and trust in things I eat/drink out of. So, I chose this KHE model because I trust plain old stainless steel much more and don't feel like I need a nonstick coating in my drink bottle.I'm glad Zojirushi gives us the choice, although it does make picking out a drink bottle a little more confusing to the consumer. I advise you check out their website to find the model that best suits your needs, they have a very nice comparison feature! Aside from this model/style mug, they have a variety of other designs. Some have built in tea-strainers and other cool features if you are interested.Conclusion: expensive mug, but worth every penny. This is, I am convinced, the best coffee-drinking apparatus on the market. I'm super-happy with my purchase and I plan to get a second (backup) mug, maybe a larger one for the occasions where I do need it.

This is the best thermos I've ever owned. In fact when I lost mine, I immediately had to buy a replacement. I've bought them for friends and family too and it's always a happily received gift.I am a coffee addict and don't want to drink my coffee cold - it never goes cold in my Zojirushi. But if I do want to keep something cold it will do that too.The lock works well. It is leak-proof if you put it in a bag or purse. It's also very easy to clean, which I appreciate.

This is literally the best thermos I have ever owned!Temperature: I poured hot tea in it and was so busy I didnt drink it at school all day. So on my way home (10 hours later) I decided I didnt want to waste good tea and took a swig. OMG NOT A GOOD IDEA. It was still too hot for me! Even though I regretted that for a few seconds I was really surprised and impressed by this. Just for fun one time I tested it by pouring boiling water in it then 2 min later putting the cap on. I then checked the temp 18 hours later. Still hot. STILL HOT. Not warm. HOT. I do live in a warmer area so the coldest environmental temp was probably like 68-70F. With a vacuum seal that shouldnt matter but its worth mentioning.Cleaning: so easy! It comes apart and you can just wash and dry everything really well. Then reassemble in a few seconds. I even accidentally left milk and coffee go a little stinky in here once and after a regular wash there was no smell at all. That only happened one time but I was really happy about the lack of reminders of my mistake.Use: I have definitely locked this and just tossed it into my bag before. Its very secure and I have had 0 spills in 6 months of use. I couldn't tell what the parts were and I thought this thermos was awesome and deserved a review so thats why I made it.Anyhow, I have had this same thermos for 1.5 years now and its still going strong. Ive taken it on lots of plane trips, shoved it in various luggages/bins to travel, really abused it as far as a thermos goes. But thats why I bought it! Still keeps my drinks unfailingly hot/cold, doesn't leak, looks great, and is still basically awesome. I even bought a couple more thermoses for family members and they are having the same success. Its worth the up front investment for this one. It does seem like a lot when you have $5-10 choices at supermarkets.I bought a bottle brush to clean it (OXO good grips bottle brush from supermarket) and it works perfectly. I don't take the whole thing apart every time- just give the parts a soapy soak/wash every few times then air dry and reassemble.1/2023: still going strong. Use weekly or so now, I don’t think this will ever die?

I bought the lavender pink and cherry (hot pink) colors. I've only had them a few days, so I don't know about the durability yet. However, I have tried them out a couple times already, and they seem pretty good.To test, I filled both with hot water, screwed on the caps, and used the locking mechanism. I shook both vigorously for several seconds. No leaks. I then put both in separate plastic tubs on their sides and left them for hours. I shook/rolled them a couple times. No drops on the outside of the mugs or in the bins. They passed that test!We took them out for a walk, and my kid managed to drop the lavender one not once, but twice. The first time nothing leaked. The second time, it went flying down the path, and there were some drops on the surface, but not a major burst. So, these mugs aren't 100% leak proof, but seems like they'll be okay as long as you're not flinging them across a field.As for heat retention, these are probably TOO good. I made tea and tried it an hour or two later in the cherry one, and it was still scalding hot. The next morning, it was still almost too hot! By afternoon, it was much cooler, but still drinkably warm. The lavender pink one seems to cool faster, but still retains heat for a long time. I think I'll have to budget time to let my drinks cool a bit before adding them to the mug if I actually want to be able to drink it that day (or plan to transfer to a cup when I get where I'm going). I didn't have issues with the spout/latch mechanism while drinking like others reported. Maybe it depends on your face/chin shape?Now, the thing that has already caused some grief and made me take away a star: CLEANING IS A PAIN. The lid has so many nooks and crannies, a rubber seal, and two separate ring gaskets that need to be removed. You're going to need one of those little straw cleaning brushes to get into everything and it takes forever for some of the cavities to fully dry. Maybe all these little nooks and pieces are what make it so leakproof, so it's unavoidable...but boy is it a pain. I did what I thought was a thorough scrubbing after my kid had hot chocolate in there, but after it dried, I found little parts I'd missed. If you're going to use this for just tea and coffee, the leak resistance and insulation probably outweigh the cleaning hassle. However, if you're planning on having smoothies or other "messy" drinks, you have been warned.

A phenomenal thermos , light weight and perfect for smaller hands. Leak proof and keeps beverages warm all day.

I've had a bit of an odyssey with thermos tumblers over the past few months. Initially, I tried the budget route since I thought, "it's just a tumbler, it should be pretty hard to go wrong". Realizing I had in fact made a mistake, I went for something a bit more expensive (more expensive than this tumbler), but was still left wanting both at the exorbitant prices a certain brand was charging for covered lids and from their mediocre thermal retention.Which finally brought me here to Zojirushi. Zojirushi is a somewhat well-known brand for rice cookers and other pressurized appliances, so it's only natural that they'd know what they're doing with a vacuum-seal and thermal applications.This thing is basically the holy grail of thermos tumblers. The heat retention is unbelievable. Compared to some of my other tumblers after (anecdotal) testing a couple of times, it regularly stayed ~20+ degrees F hotter than any of the others after being left to sit TWICE as long (the others lost their heat around ~2-3 hours, I gave up waiting on the Zojirushi to cool off after 6 HOURS). I'd go into more detail with some specific testing, but the difference between this tumbler and the others (vs. both a cheap $10 tumbler and a "premium" $35+$12 tumbler) was so drastic that I didn't really see the point.The lid is entirely leak-proof as new. I haven't had it very long, maybe after some wear and tear or being beaten around it might be possible for this to change, but I wouldn't count on it. The design of the lid has multiple gaskets and is enclosed, so there would need to be failure in multiple places for this thing to ever leak. You can try to force it to leak, turn it upside down, shake it around, throw it, whatever you want, but nothing is gonna come out. The lid has a lock for added protection against accidentally opening it in a bag or in some other bad situation.The cap on the lid is exactly what I'd been looking for, an enclosed opening that is covered completely when you're not drinking from it, but also opens enough that it won't get in your way while you drink it. It flips back fully and then locks in place so that you don't have a lid bumping against your nose. The opening itself is large enough for a good flow and also has a second opening for air to ensure a smooth pour. Again, the major plus here for me was that the lid is COMPLETELY sealed and covered. I'm not a fan of drinking from a lid out in public that I can't cover up or protect in some way, this solves that issue extremely well.The ONE thing that must be remembered about this thermos: As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you. You have to hand-wash it. It's not made to be put in the dishwasher or subjected to extreme heat or strong detergents. It's not made to be left soaking in hot water. It's not made to hold certain liquids for extended periods of time, like soups that are high in sodium since it can damage the interior coating. Assuming you use it regularly and always make sure to dump out any leftover coffee/tea/whatever then give it a rinse out it should last virtually forever. Take care of it like you would your stainless steel cooking utensils.Breaking down the lid is easy and simple. The parts of the cap come apart in a pretty self-explanatory manner, and it only takes a few seconds to run some hot water with soap and rinse it all off when you need to clean it.Some final considerations that I'd consider mostly subjective to each buyer:This 16oz version is pretty thin. Personally, this was appealing to me since it spends more time in a backpack side pocket than in a cup holder in a car. It's easier to carry and hold than some of the other, fatter tumblers I've had. There are other versions of this brand that are more or less identical, but are made to fit better in a cup holder. You can find them on Amazon and they cost the same price as this one.The closed lid is probably better suited to an active or on-the-go usage than someone that just wants to keep their coffee hot sitting at their desk. You could just leave it open, but one of the alternative versions with a different lid might be better if that's how you'd typically use it.I really like how it looks. It's simple, clean, and professional. No-nonsense kind of look, especially the stainless design. Some people might want something a little less "stiff" with extra designs. I haven't seen any Zojirushi tumblers that come in patterned designs or with anything like that, unfortunately. You could probably just get a wrap for it instead if you don't like any of the colors.

Excellent bottle,holding temparature like i never seen before.One day i make coffee at 3 am going to work and I completely forgot on coffe and it stayed in car.At 3 pm when i done work i drive home and i have sip of coffee and i promise you guys i burn my tongue.I was shocked that coffee was still hot!I highly recommend this bottle over anything else!

It really is the best travel mug. The lock is leak proof, the bottle keeps the heat for hours. We've had a few of them over the years and always repurchase (once one gets worn out or lost!). This is a small size, but it is perfect for having a bit of tea or coffee on the go.

When I bought this product I was skeptical. There are many reviews on the internet on this "mug", all saying good things so I figured it was worth the risk because this mug is far from cheap.First off let me give a brief description which may not be listed on the site. This particular mug is the Stainless steel version there is no non-stick coating on the inside. This mug feature a smooth exterior surface. It is not a matte finish as it looks in the picture. Even though this bottle is smooth it is still very easy to hold in you hand. One of the best things about this product is the lid. All the mouth piece and rubber gaskets can be removed for easy clean. If anyone has used the Contigo Auto Close (could be incorrect name) series of mugs they know, once stuff gets into the moving part of the lid it can get gross and mold and is impossible to clean. With this mug that is something I never feels will happen.The main features of this mug has to be its lid and its temperature control. I use my mug for lattes. Many of the online reviews rave about how well the mug maintains it temperature. If I put in piping hot coffee in the mug and leave it closed, the liquid will continue to remain hot, and when I mean hot, I mean too hot to drink for 6-8 hrs. I have even had one occasion where I went to drink and the contents was still hot enough to burn my tongue 6 hrs later. No coffee/travel mug I have used has come even close to this. So basically everything they say about the mug maintaining its temperature is true.The lid is the other key feature. It offers a leak free seal. I haven't seen one drop leak from the bottle at all. the lid also has a locking switch which stops the lid from opening and surprises from happening. On the inside, the bottle lid features two rubber gaskets one to seal the drinking area and one near screw on cap, which does an excellent job of crating a air tight seal. Like previously mentioned the entire lid can be disassembled making cleaning a breezy. Lastly, the mugs offers great flow meaning when you go to drink from it, you don't get a tsunami of hot liquid burning your moth or face. This mug provides an adequate flow without any surprises.Overall this mugs has been amazing and its worth the premium verse other travel mugs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. In fact I have order a second mug for a Christmas present.
