The Tea Party - Transmission
I fell in rapture with this in the early 90's and played the CD until it was scratched and some songs ruined. I was heart-broken since I couldn't find a reasonably-priced replacement. Now I'm happily relieved to have a new copy loaded on my ipod. The music has moments of strength, tenderness, techno, orchestra, and metal. For me, it feels like a massage. Get it, and enjoy.

The Tea Party - Transmission
The Tea Party is a very strong group I first heard on Much Music a Canadian music TV station...I heard when I was in Richmond VA (imagine that). Got the cassette (yeah) in the late 90s. Started listening to the Tea Party on Pandora...went to Amazon to get this CD. Great CD.

Interesting band...this disc was mislabeled as Matchbox 20's debut!!
How many copies were made of this album in error with Matchbox 20's "Yourself Or Someone LIke You"?? Both came out at the same time, both bands are/were on the same US label...here's what happened...I bought a "mystery bag" at a fave local record store...they have these "mystery bags" where, for $2.99, you get a brown paper bag with a question mark on it and 8 CDs inside, not knowing what you are going to get...there are usually at least 2 gems inside which pay for the bag itself and the others are usually just junk that you just keep the cases and dump the discs as they usually not worth anything.ANYHOO, it was a pretty cool "mystery bag" this time, and one of the discs was Matchbox 20's debut...or so I thought...same artwork, same label on the disc, not a CD-R...and I was like, OK, I sorta like M20, and I would at least put this album on my iPod as I like many of the songs on it, and decide later if I wanted to keep the CD or not...well, loading it into my iTunes, it came up this Tea Party album...and with 11 tracks instead of the 12 on M20's...I was like HUH?? So I took the CD out of the computer to see if the wrong disc was inside the case...like the Kanye West disc in the mystery bag was...that case was his debut "The College Dropout" and the CD was "Late Registration"...gotta dump that one...but with this M20/Tea Party, the CD was labelled the Matchbox 20 disc, regular copy, catalogue number and everything...I popped it in my CD player and it was the 11-track Tea Party album!! I looked on the bottom playable side and lo and behold, the catalogue # on the center digital info band was different and definitely the Tea Party album...I'm just wondering how many copies got manufactured like this and if it's worth money?? There are collectors out there who look for errors like this, I know that for a fact...so I am hanging on to this one...as for the Tea Party album?? It's interesting, unique and pretty good, with this mix of hard alt-rock and world music textures...I just wish it was more melodic and powerpop.Anyone who knows these answers, let me know, thanks...I wrote down the songs on a piece of paper from the tracklist in my iTunes library...what a weird find, huh??

Another Direction for the Best Band in Years
The Tea Party are my favorite band and their diversity is the most amazing thing about them. This cd surely shows their adventure into industrial type music. This is by far their darkest album to date.1.)Temptation-5 stars-Great great song. Really cool intro riff as well. Good lyrics about a destructive life.2.)Army Ants-4 stars-Not my favorite on the album, but a good guitar song none the less.3.)Psychopomp-5 stars-Quite possibly the most emotional song on the record. Great sound and excellent lyrics.4.)Gyroscope-5 stars-Cool slide guitar riff during the intro/chorus. Cool tribal feel during the bridge as well.5.)Alarum-5 stars-Another incredibly emotional song. Very dark and depressing. Awesome hard rock song.6.)Release-4 stars-Very very sad. Great song though, very mellow. A song that has been attached to the white ribbon campaign to which the Tea Party are very active in.7.)Transmission-5 stars-the title song, very cool riffs and once again, very dark lyrics, cool tribal beat.8.)Babylon-5 stars-Very techno-ish song. Has a really cool video that goes along with it, the hidden track at the end of it, also known as Embryo, is a kick ass instrumental too.9.)Pulse-5 stars-Really cool hard rock song, good driving beat from Jeff Burrowns. Once again very depressing song.10-)Emerald-5 stars-very emotional song, and quite possibly my favorite song on the album. Cool acoustic to electric change.11.)Aftermath-4 stars-Great way to end the album. A mellow quite, brooding song that sort of wraps everything from the album up.Great album for anyone looking for Tea Party's darkest music. It is also their heaviest album to date.

Tea Party does NiN
3.5 stars. Its always bonus when a band decides that the next album will sound nothing like the previous one, and that having been said, this is an admirable, sometimes exciting dip into the electronica side of things, but when you put it side to side with _Edges of Twilight_ or even _Splendor Solis_ it doesn't stand a chance. There's just a bit too much filler here. Some of tracks are surprisingly dull ("Pulse", "Release" and "Aftermath") while others are just barely near-misses ("Psychopomp" and "Gyroscope"). One wonders what might have happened if the band had balanced the post-production with more ethnic instrumentation (like the oud at the beginning of "Temptation") to keep the tension between organic and electronic going, or had been totally committed as dark and mysterious a vibe as the awesome title track; The experiment may have worked a little better. Still, much props for the tracks that do reward the price of admission : "Army Ants" (great percussion and chorus), the dancey, techno-industrial grind of "Babylon" and "Temptation", and the passionate and stunning "Alarum", which may be among the finest Tea Party tracks ever.

Transmission is a great disc for those who enjoy HARD ROCK or HEAVY METAL.
As I am writing this review I am listening to the disc right now. It really is a great disc for those who enjoy Heavy rock music. I am only now beginning to get into THE TEA PARTY and I find their music really good. They incorporate a great variety of backgrounds into their music and meld all those into a hard rock genre to produce a wonderful new sound. For those metal heads or for those interested in the different sounds of Hard Rock I highly suggest this disc.
