Tilly and the Buttons: Make it Simple: Easy, Speedy Sewing Projects to Stitch up in an Afternoon

I've made two things from this book (well, two patterns across three garments -- two pairs of the Safiya trousers and the Tabitha t-shirt) but holy cow they were so easy and look amazing. I've never sewn clothes before, and these directions are so clear and the pictures are incredibly helpful. I just bought some more fabric to make a Tabitha dress and some Juno pajama bottoms. I definitely take longer than the pattern says, but that's because I'm going super slow and careful! Taking my time, trying to make everything nice and even -- just like the book says to do. Hooray! Recommended!

The patterns are layered so it is tricky to trace but otherwise it's a great deal! Not as thorough instructions as individual Tilly patterns but still very good. The Tabitha tee is so well drafted and the safiya trousers are simple and have a great fit. I wouldn't say this would be for a complete beginner to sewing. Personally I think it would be overwhelming but if you know someone who sews that could help a bit that would work!

This is my second Tilly and The Buttons book. I purchased "Stretch" right after it came out and loved it, so I pre-ordered "Make it Simple." I absolutely adore "Make it Simple." The asthetic and the content are both lovely. The written directions and pictures make it all very clear for how to cut out and assemble your project. It helps you choose your fabric, make simple adjustments and sew it together. It's full of quick projects that's sewists of all levels will enjoy. If you're just starting out with garment making, the book goes over sewing terms and quick tips to help you be successful. I can't reccomend this book enough.

I was so excited to get this book and it didn't disappoint. Included are 6 patterns projects, all suitable for a beginner (or a seasoned sewer to get fancy with) and delightful tips and easy to follow instructions. One thing I really love is if you purchase the book, you can go online and download the print-at-home versions of the patterns for free. I immediately did that so I can leave the book patterns folded in the back. I have read comments online complaining about the patterns in the book being double sided. Yes, you will need to trace the patterns as they are double sided...but that is fairly common for patterns included with books. Or you can print at home like I did. :) All in all, a wonderful book! Even better...if you follow TillyButtons on Instagram, there is a sew-a-long for the Safiya trousers.

I love this book. Yes, the patterns are very simple, but that's what I was looking for. I'm an intermediate/advanced seamstress, but my sewing has been languishing for the last year. I have children and find my time slips away. I was attracted to this book because I read that Tilly had broken down each step into 15-30 min chunks and that seemed incredibly doable to me. I just completed my Safiya Trouser muslin by following the steps and not feeling like I had to get the whole project done in 1 or 2 sittings. The pants are very cute and I dug into my stash and found a deep blue linen to make a pair in. I foresee quite a few projects coming from this book that will be perfect for the summer weather!

For beginning sewists and experienced hobbyists as well. These patterns are stylish and easy to sew. Very fulfilling, no matter what your skill level. The instructions are well written, illustrated, and easy to follow. Several hacks, aka customizations, for each garment. I also have the book devoted to knits and have made several things I just love! I highly recommend this author.

Just made the first project from the book. And no, I am not professional or advanced at all. I've only been sewing for a month. Love how easy and thorough the directions are. I opted to print the pdf patterns which adds a bit of time to the project but the end result is so satisfying! Cant wait to try more projects.

Book in excellent condition, book missing one pattern sheet, but did contain other pattern sheets. Kind of upsetting as I won't be able to create some of the patterns in the book. The book is beginner friendly and does have a good instructions. The patterns are great to use when you just want a quick sew project after a huge one. Note to buyers: If you buy used, read the notes from seller thoroughly, patterns may not be included.

My copy of Make it simple arrived this week, I am so excited to start making these patterns. The patterns, as always from Tilly, look really easy to follow. I have been sewing for a few years but I'm always looking for fast and stylish projects to sew and Tilly really delivers here. The make it your own sections look great. I can't wait to make the Safiya trousers, jumpsuit and playsuit!! The book also explains the sewing jargon so would be great for beginners. A real game changer for me whilst using Tilly's books is that I now use carbon paper to copy the pattern onto my fabric, with the double sided paper pattern this really helps, or you can download the PDF patterns online to print yourself or send to a copyshop. Thank you Tilly for delivering once again! Your books and other patterns made me fall in love with sewing clothes and this new book has got me excited to sew all over again!!

Amazing book and it has a real size pattern with it. Suitable for beginner.

Let me start by saying that I am a Tilly fan and have her previous books. I find that a lot of the negative reviews tend to be from those who don't necessarily know her work/books. Tilly's books are delightful to all but her message has always been about bringing sewing to beginners. This book, in particular, is focused on simpler, more speedy projects that can be whipped up in an afternoon (or a couple of days, depending on how much time you have). Like her other books, there are all these nifty little details that can be used to personalize and upgrade each project. If you are more experienced and want to skip the explanation of the techniques, there is a nice little checklist for each project. When it comes to the style, I always recommend looking at the designer's instagram or website to get a feel of what their style is. Sometimes it is just not for me, so I do some browsing first (Instagram is great to look at what the patterns look like on other people) and then decide if I want to invest the money on that particular pattern/book. I am super pleased with this purchase and definitely can't wait to keep sewing with Tilly!

Adorei o livro. Ele está em inglês mas as instruções são claras e com várias fotos. Além disso os modelos são simples e bonitos, prefeito para iniciantes na costura. O livro também já vem com os moldes, cada um em um lado da folha, o que é muito interessante já que é fácil de copiá-los e seguir com a costura.
