This author has a habit of constantly making reference to topics that he did not previously introduce nor discussed at all, and overall the way he conducts his discussions is so careless and casual that it gives one the impression that the writing of this book was just a paycheck to him. For higher quality documentation, refer to the books written by the original authors of the GNU Autotools. They have written one individual book per tool (one for autoconf, one for automake, one for libtool) and finally another one that discusses how all three of these tools work together.
