Red Rock Outdoor GearEngagement Pack (Large, Black)

Excellent budget backpack
I've a two backpack system going - one for hiking/outdoor survival and one for disaster/urban survival. This backpack is for scenario number two. Having worked disaster relief for the Red Cross i've seen the positive morale and health effects having small necessities available can make.Lets face it , many of the backpacks out there are WAY overpriced considering how much you really use them. Adding the word "tactical" to the description seems to justify adding $50 to the price. I wanted a backpack that was well made, reasonably priced, molle compliant, had rain flaps over all the zippers but wasn't overtly mall ninja in appearance. This pack fits the bill very well. It's covered with Molle so you can add any number of items to it. It has three compartments - (not so) small, medium and large. I'm using the (not so) small for first aid and rain ponchos, the medium for fire starting, food, water purification, toiletries, etc. and the large compartment for clothing. The detachable butt pack is an extra bonus to an already large capacity pack. I don't even know what I'm going to put in there yet. My green Swedish mora knife matches the backpacks color so well it almost disappears when strapped to the side, which I think is much better then having a big honking combat knife strapped to the front making people wonder if they need to shoot you before you get too close. The pack has a plastic interior semi "frame" which fits my back well and in combination with properly adjusted straps make it comfortable to wear.I like this pack a lot and think it's a good value.

Its Okay.
I like the size, its not super huge but I can fit a lot in it. The extra buttbag is great to have too.Cons:-The inside of the shoulder straps is thin nylonIts softer, but I can imagine it wearing out or getting snagged and ripping pretty easily. Im going to be adding more fabric to the straps.-The small and medium compartments are separated by thin nylon.I'm not sure why they did this, because the large and medium compartments are separated by the thicker material the bag is made out of. This thinner separation is for sure going to rip if you put anything sorta sharp or that has hard corners in it. I'll be modifying this as well.- The hip strap is too long.Even with adjusting the hip strap all the way, it was too long. I had to remove one of the buckles to get it tighter, and even then its not very wide either. Its okay.-Some of the compartments are only single stitched. It is made in china...-No bladder pouch. Not that big of a deal.Pro's-It has a really nice shank that keeps the pack straight and a puncture board to keep things inside from poking you in the back.-The sternum strap has elastic on it, which is something I've never seen before, but I love it. Allows it to be tight and let your chest expand for breathing.-Rain flaps over the zippers-Lots of MOLLE, too much MOLLEOverall I'm not disappointed in the pack for $45 but I would have spent another $20 to get a little better construction and maybe some smaller pockets inside for storing smaller things. I wouldn't use this pack for any Rambo type action, as I'm sure it would get ripped apart. I'm used to Army assault packs and their ruggedness, and this pack isn't even in the same ballpark but I didn't expect it to be either. Its a good camping pack for sure. LOTS more room than I was expecting, comfortable to wear. You could fit a 24 pack in there no problem. If it turns out that its durable, I can see it becoming my favorite pack with some modifications.

Decent quality pack at a bargain price!
This is a great little pack for the price. I've done several overnight and weekend outings with it and it's held up fine so far. There was room to spare and I didn't even bring the detachable bottom pouch. The fabric and materials are fairly durable, stitching looks good, and the seams/zippers are holding up fine so far. The MOLLE webbing and compression straps are useful for customizing your load. I added a couple canteen pouches to the sides. All in all, it is more pack than I was expecting from such a small price tag.The padding against your back is great... well designed and airs well. However, I'm not sure I like the shoulder and hip padding all that much. I may eventually add some heavier padding, especially on the hip belt. That's just my own issue as I often carry small (compact), but fairly heavy loads. The existing pads are absolutely fine for lighter loads.

Fantastic pack. Great price
Fantastic pack. Great price. Plenty of space for anything you may want to carry. Only downside is no internal dividers or smaller compartments within. Still love it though.
