It's a genuine Fender Made in Mexico neck . . . Satin smooth on the back of neck, pau ferro is lighter than rosewood, but looks nice with some oil. I love 12" radius and that's the main reason I got this neck. A good factory neck. It did need some work: fret ends are good enough as expected for a factory neck. Not bad. I could leave them as is but will eventually smooth them out a bit more. I've seen worse. The nut needed to be slotted because the action was waaay to high at the nut. I gave the truss rod a quarter turn . . . You may not need to do that. That's it . . . Fit like a glove into my MIM Fender Player Series body that came with a 22 fret neck like this replacement. Also needs 2 string trees which are not included.

Love the thin neck. Mine is a12", and I love it. I might go 9.5 if I did it again. To me 10" is probably about perfect. But still the neck is just about perfect. The roasted Maple is beautiful and the satin is so smooth. The only concern is the fret end are rough. They could certainly use a polish. I would think a fender neck at this price would have finished fret ends.

I have a strat that I’ve been trying to figure out the “profile” for years. It wasn’t a C, a modern C, a V, a D. It was something different. The flat oval is by far the closest I’ve found yet.I play big fat strings (11s/12s) , and I like to bend. Big bends. The jumbo frets really allow you to get under the string. Really remarkable how much difference it makes.I put this neck on a build, replaced a marginal neck. Getting a true side by side, a neck really makes the difference in how a guitar feels, plays, and in the end how it sounds.My ONLY complaint is that there aren’t other color options. This would be a perfect solution for my strat that needs a re-fret, but the color doesn’t go with the body.Invest in a file to dress and round the fret ends, as well as the files to cut the nut. No other specialty tools needed. Swap tuning pegs, drill string tree, 4 bolts and it swaps right in.The quality of this neck far surpasses other Mexican manufacturer (love them to death) strats.

Fender has decided to hit back at companies that disassemble their guitars, selling bodies and necks separately. This makes business sense, but a neck removed from a completed guitar will have a completed, slotted nut whereas these Fender necks just have scratch marks to get your filing started. To add insult to injury, these slot starter marks lead some people to think the nut is "too high" when in fact, it isn't slotted at all.Alas, cutting nut slots takes time and skill so you either know how to do it or must figure in the cost of having someone do it for you. The other thing that suprised me was th roughness of the Pao Ferro fretboard. I double checked at a music store and Pao Ferro can be sanded as smooth as glass. But if you want that, you'll have to do it yourself. At least that's an easy fix.There was also a lot of sawdust in the box, some rough drilling of the mounting holes, and some discoloration of the fretboard between the nut and first fret. But if you want a genunine Fender neck with a 12" radius, this may be what you're looking for.

Many of the negative reviews ding this for either the fact that the nut needs to be cut or the frets need a fret-dressing. These are both true of this neck and you should know that before you buy. The nut needs to be cut and, for best results, a fret dressing once set up in your guitar will help as well. A neck is not a 1:1 part you can reasonably expect to hot-swap in the way some people might think. If you’re considering this as an upgrade, be aware that you will need to adjust truss, saddles, neck angle (shim), neck alignment, cut the nut, and (ideally) dress the frets. If you can’t do these yourself you’ll need to factor the cost of a professional set-up as part of your upgrade budget. In a nutshell: this is very much a “DIY” type of upgrade.All of that said: I’m really very happy with this neck. The one I received has a really nice feeling non-glossy finish which feels very comfortable. I was able to install this neck into a Squier Strat to bring new life and a much more comfortable feel and playability to it.

Nut is horrible...way too tall. Had to replace with a TusqXL. Worst case of fret sprouts I’ve ever seen on both sides of neck, every fret. Even the tangs were sprouting. One positive is the top of the fret crowns. They were easy to play and were not gritty at all. Was surprised how bad this neck was from Fender for $300.00+. Recommendation: Don't do it.

I only wish I took pictures before I sent it back.Everything about this neck was wrong. It wasn't roasted Maple, It wasn't made Mexico, The finish was questionable, It was only 21 fretst and not 22, or jumbo. The more I think about it it really looked like I used neck, It looked like the nut head wear There were pieces pressed in the front side of the headstock where the tuning keys go and string saddles. I've never seen a new neck from Fender have any hardware on it before!The only reason I bought this neck was because the 1st one I bought, the holes in the back of the head stock did not lineup with the tuners I was using.This was also wrong on this neck. It's actually had Rust stains where tuning keys were on the back of the headstock and not with the pattern shown in the pictureas it was discribed.Its been suggested that these necks on Amazon are Chinese clones and not really Fender. Now im questioning my former purchases. Very disappointed.
