Super Meat Boy is a tough as nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux. Our meaty hero will leap from walls, over seas of buzz saws, through crumbling caves and pools of old needles. Sacrificing his own well being to save his damsel in distress. Super Meat Boy brings the old school difficulty of classic NES titles like Mega Man 2, Ghost and Goblins and Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Japanese one) and stream lines them down to the essential no BS straight forward twitch reflex platforming. Ramping up in difficulty from hard to soul crushing SMB will drag Meat boy though haunted hospitals, salt factories and even hell itself. And if 300+ single player levels weren't enough SMB also throws in epic boss fights, a level editor and tons of unlock able secrets, warp zones and hidden characters.

The best platformer of our generation.
Oh, yes. You will get angry. You will curse. You may even heave your controller across the room. You will cry out in agony and frustration. You will play the same level hundreds of times. But, at the end of the day, you find yourself grinning like an idiot. You just had the most fun with a game since you had your NES.Super Meat Boy is the most ridiculous game that has been released in a long while, and therein lies its' charm. It is such a unique, quirky idea, it reminds one of NAMCO's gem, Katamari Damacy. I mean, this is a game about a hunk of meat trying to save his latex girlfriend from a ugly robo-fetus.What's not to love? The gameplay is the tightest, best controlled platformer I've ever laid hands on. Each of the hundreds of levels seems like it was meticulously designed for the player, with all the narrow misses and 'I ALMOST HAD IT!'s. The game lasts and lasts forever. If you want to complete the light world (the normal difficulty) and the dark world (the hard difficulty) it will take you hours upon hours. And then there are the hidden bandages that unlock awesome characters (including original ones and ones from other games). The look on my face when I was jumping around these levels as Tim from Braid must have been priceless. In between levels you are often treated to hilarious animated cutscenes setting the stage for the next zone or level. They are great, and it almost seems like Meat Boy could have his own cartoon. The music deserves its own paragraph. A little bit 8-bit, a little bit metal, a little bit electronica, Meat Boys' music will have you rocking out in no time. From the awesome opening theme to each area's unique song, it's all stuck-in-your-head-humming-it-all-day greatness. And the best part? It comes with the soundtrack. If you like platformers, you have no reason not to buy Team Meats' baby. It's $20, and for that you're getting one of the best platform games in existence. So go to it, and watch out for all the saw blades! ;)10/10

Please read why I took off one star...
Even on a big and wide HD screen, this game that seemingly looks like 8 bit graphics simply shines. The ultra edition is just showing the developers a little more love by paying a few extra dollars for their creativity. I personally did not like the poster, I think it could have been better. But the booklet is nice to have. The game itself comes in a nice packaging but I hate its association with Steam. Not every user will want/have internet, even today. What's Super Meat Boy? remember the old DOS wonderful DAVE? this game is kind of on that lines, but of course far more superior in terms of everything - design, colors, music, SFX, and playability.XBOX gamepad on PC for this game feels very natural and intuitive. I however did wish in a few levels that the sensitivity were more. But it takes practice, I understand. Fantastic entertainment. The only reason I took off one star is actually a strength - it's difficult! I lost the zest to play just because it got extremely difficult just toward the end of the very first chapter! I work long hours and one needs some sense of achievement, and NOT work hard for it every time :PBut that's very subjective. I am pretty sure I am going to get back to the game and hit it hard until I clear that tough level. It is perhaps the BEST 2D game ever created after Mario brothers. Fresh, simple concept, extremely clever control system, level design and music.

Be ready to die ALOT but get so addicted your mind will explode!
This is by far one of my most favorite platformers to ever play as well as being my very first PC game. The content included in this Ultra edition is as follows:#1 A 21 track Digital Soundtrack (Music is freaking amazing.)#2. 16 Playable Characters including Commander Video (Bit Trip Series) Machinarium (From the youtube giant Machinima) VVVVVV (From the game on Steam which i also recommend buying) Minecraft and many others.#3 a Full out comic (actually 3 comics in the entire booklet) of some hilarious stories from Super Meatboy Dr. Fetus and Bandage Girl (They are real awesome and i can tell they took a lot of time to make these comics and game as awesome as can be)#4 A full out Poster to hang on your Wall (The poster is amazing and very highly detailed.)#5 a Free account to Steam included with your activation code for the game. (Steam is awesome.)If none of these 5 reasons you think are worth getting this complete Gem for $20 than you are no gamer. This is tons of content for a very small price and you will go back to this game again and again and again. 10/10 Perfect Game. If you also don't buy this Dr. Fetus will flip you off :P

By Gamers, for Gamers
As a gamer since 1984, I have run through every game genre there is. I keep myself abreast of the industry as a whole, and have a genuine love for the gaming industry. I've traveled to PAX numerous times and have beta tested some of the largest franchises to date. I continue to play video games as an entertaining and interactive diversion from the normal hustle and bustle of life, and expect artistic as well as technical achievement from the games I play, otherwise why would I waste my time playing them. Why have I bothered saying all that? It was my feeble attempt at creating some sort of credibility with you, so that when I tell you my verdict for the game, you MIGHT listen to what I had to say:Go buy this game. You're welcome. If you're can't afford the collectible version, buy it cheaply off Steam or XBLA; leave the boxed version the die hard fans (read: me).
