Italeri 6078S 1:72 - Us Special Forces (Vietnam War)

WW II lasted 6 years and there are hundreds, maybe thousands of sets of toy soldiers, planes, tanks, scenery and whatnot available, from a vast variety of manufacturers. The war in Indochina fought by first the French and later by the Americans lasted 26 years and you have to look pretty long and hard to find any figures or model kits at all. Enter Italeri's re-issues of 2 sets of 1:72 scale (22 mm) figures originally made by Escii. A little pricy by the standards of this type of plastic figure, but the sculpting is up to Italeri's very high standards, and it saves you from having to convert too many WW II guys into Vietnam guys, not the easiest thing to do when working on figures only 1" tall......

Hello there, and thanks for taking the time to read my review! Before I begin, I'd just like to preface my opinions with the qualifier that I'm not a master model kit builder, and as such, you may find your own experience with this product to be vastly different from mine. Now, if you like quantity, this set has nothing to complain of. You get quite a few soldiers to use in whatever way you see fit. My personal use of them is to display them in conjunction with a toy (a VF-1S Valkyrie from Macross, for those curious), so being able to stand without being glued down is a big thing for me. This trait is exemplary in each of these figurines, with the exception of the man who is injured, and is meant to be helped away from the field of battle by his comrade. My big complaint in that regard is that there aren't more copies of these two figurines in this set. You get a fair amount of detail on these figures. They can really be brought to life with a good paint job. I'm not good enough to accomplish this fully, but I'm VERY impressed with the result on the aforementioned wounded soldier. With a bit of creativity, he can be made into a man leaning against something, rather than being injured. Lots of fodder for creative scene-building. We have quite a few men with grenade launchers, quite a few others with M-60's, some men are running, some are standing and firing, others are crouched and firing. The unique figures are the two I've mentioned and one man ostensibly calling in an artillery strike. Not fantastic variety, but it also means that you have plenty of freedom to experiment with different paint jobs and such. I'll try and get some pictures up ere long, for your benefit.

For such small 1/72 scale figures the detail was excellent. VERY much satisfied.
