Lack of a blade guard is a flaw in the design.
I’ve owned several Opinel folding knives over the years. I like the simple robust construction and the quality and shape of the blade. I knew exactly what I was going to get when I ordered it, except for one thing. I didn’t know if Opinel had improved the one thing I don’t like about this design and that is the lack of a guard where the handle meets the open blade. I didn’t expect there to be a guard because it is my impression that Opinel prides itself on preserving a classic design in spite of what I consider to be flaw in that design. I grind down the heel of the blade to lessen the risk of accidentally cutting one’s forefinger should it slide forward into the blade. As I said I didn’t expect to see a guard and I’m content with the knife, but I would urge Opinel to figure out a way to fix this flaw.I also currently own a small #3 (I believe) Opinel and it does not have the locking feature which is another flaw that needs to be corrected.

Great little knife. Great history.
This is a "must have" for any knife collector. Opinel has been making knives in this fashion for decades; your grandfather might have owned one. The only change has come with the addition of stainless steel blade steel in addition to the more traditional carbon steel. Nice little cutter. It is good in the kitchen for slicing apples, and in the field for light bushcraft action. Number 7 is the size that is most iconic, but you can go larger or smaller.

A christmas present He liked.
I have one already, I like it for it's unusual style and historical appearance, as well as its usefulness. This one was for my twin brother. We are both into handcrafts, older style items, but he is more into weaving and looms, as well as hand wood working. He liked it.

great simple pocket knife
a single useful blade, nicely ground to an edge. Having used a swiss army folder for many years I was surprised at how light weight this one is with the simple wooden handle. hard not to like.

Great knife!!!
My son brought one of these on a camping trip, incredibly sharp, wonderful knife for the money so I had to get one myself.

Wowza
Nice knife. Shape. Wish I got the carbon steel and not stainless because I wanted it to hold an edge longer and I like to add a patina. Still a great knife for the price

Lower quality than expected and no loop
Specifically ordered the knife with the leather loop as I wanted to be able to hang this one on a hook and this one that’s arrived doesn’t have one. The wood feels incredibly light weight and not at all the same kind of heft as my other opinel knives. Feels a lot flimsier and less robust and the blade is not as sharp. The reason I pay the high price for these knives is the quality you get with a real opinel. I suspect this knife is not.

Normally a much higher standard
I have owned several of these knees in the past excellent quality normally. I have just opened this one the blade has not been finished properly there are 5 chips on the cutting edge either that or it was not sharpened properly.

Great knives.
History has proved that these knives are perfectly made for the job they are designed for. A working pocket knife for a hard application, not a toy for just sharpening your pencil, but it will do that as well.
