Can this be programmed to spray every five minutes for the duration of one minute?

I found this to be such a curious question... wondering "why would anyone want to water that way?" sent me searching... I still don't know WHY, but it turns out Melnor DOES make a timer that can be programmed to turn on up to 24 times per day! Granted, it doesn't meet the asker's need of every 5 minutes, but it's a heck of a lot more than the standard max of 2 or 3 times per day. Who knew! It's the Melnor Automatic 2-Outlet Hose Timer. Home Depot carries it for $39.97. Can the timer be programed to operate for longer than a week? I have a new lawn and I'm going away for two weeks.

Once you set your program - it will last as long as the batteries last. Get some extra-strength batteries and you should be ok for two weeks.

Can I hook this timer up to a rain barrel, gravity fed system? Or will it require a pressured system?

I have a three valve and a single valve unit that I use with a drip feed system. The three valve unit water supply is fed thru a boiler fill regulator that I have set to provide 10 lbs of pressure . A typical setting to multiple 1/2 gph emitters is on time 4 minutes / every 12 hours. The single valve unit is attached to a vented gravity feed tank that delivers a Calcium Nitrate solution through separate emitters for 4 minutes once every 7 days. I use this to grow Seascape strawberries year round in my basement in Anchorage Alaska. My experience seems different from some of the reviews I've read here but for me they have worked at whatever pressure I've chosen , and the batteries in the 3 valve unit lasted at least 6 months- they might last longer but I replace before failure (seems like a good idea) I don't work for Orbit, these products have just worked for me.

How does the rain delay work? Is there a sensor?

No sensor-this is how to use rain delay: When in AUTO , press + button for 24 hrs, 48 hrs, or 72 hrs. Screen will flash between clock and hoursremaining before programmed cycle resumes. To remove rain delay, turn dial to OFF and then back to AUTO.
