I did buy and use a u-bolt and plate style hitch stabilizer in place of the one included with the carrier. Review: Strong but damned heavy! - This thing is a beast of a carrier, and it's heavy as he'll, but it carries bikes with no issues whatsoever. Assembly wasn't too bad, took about 45 minutes with an impact gun. Installing it into the re ever is a bit of a pain, as it's heavy and slightly awkward to slide in. I did have to buy grip tape for the ramp though, I think it should be included as you'll never get the bike on ther if the ramp or tires are wet or muddy. Once the bike is on there, strap on down and go! Carried my 390 adventure a few hundred miles and it didn't budge. Nice touch, having included the receiver cinch down bracket! Took me about an hour to assemble. I loaded our Vespa 250ie (333lbs wet) onto the rack on the back of our motorhome by carefully driving it up the ramp while standing beside. The only problem I had was the pins spinning when rear wheel with power applied trying to get the front wheel into the well on the passenger side. The reasons this steel carrier for the Vespa was selected after much research: 1) Steel does not flex as much as aluminum 2) Carrier more than handles the weight of the machine (333 lbs wet) at 600 lbs. 3) Ramp was longer than some of the others allowing for easier loading (~60 inches), although I used the motor to "drive" it up while I stood on the ground. 4) Carrier was longer than some others which allows the back of the scooter (where most the weight is located) to be closer to the center trailer hitch so the carrier will not twist as easily. 5) Reviews showed it worked with other Vespa's and people liked it. Overall it gets the job done. I used these four racket style tiedown straps with the soft loop straps on the handle bars and rear luggage rack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MY4VG66/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I padded with microfiber cloths and use some foam near the ladder. I did break off the front fender reflector on the ladder the first time I loaded.
