Rheostat Variable Speed Control for Gas Fireplace Fan, Fan Kit, Wood Stove Fan, Fan Controller for Various Fireplace Blower Kits

Hooked the variable rheostat (speed controller) up to 1 blower unit out of two. This was temporary, as I will soon be rewiring to operate both blowers off of only one speed controller and only one 115v power cord. The rheostat operated smoothly, with a very smooth increase in motor speed as the dial was slowly turned. No heat issues that I've noticed so far and it's a very simple process to just wire it in to the black power lead (hot lead) anywhere between the power cord and the black motor wire(s). The rheostat control also makes a nice 'click/detent' when turned full counter-clockwise and into the 'Off' position.

I bought this for my Regency insert as the router speed control unit died last year and the cost had risen to $25 to replace it. This barely fits in the space that the old High speed/ Low speed / Off three way switch occupied, but it fits. The high speed was too noisy, the low speed too weak; the router control allowed me to find the sweet spot. This does the same thing, is not another cord to work around, and is much more affordable. You must have some basic electrical knowledge to make this change, and to reduce my liability (you are on your own if you choose to do this, I am not responsible if you fry yourself or burn your house down!)

UPDATE 3: I fried the original and ordered a replacement from my history. The new version came with female connectors, while the original came with make connectors - hence the loss of a star in my rating. I was able to make a jumper cable to make the connections, without damaging the new rheostats wiring. ---------- Update 2 ---------- 3 months later still working well. The only issue, so far, is the knobs compatability to the shaft. The shaft is ridged (no flat spot for the set screw) which means the set screw in the knob cannot make a good connection (grip) to the shaft. This causes the knob to wiggle and change orientation, so the line indicator doesn't line up to the original position. Not a performance issue, merely annoying. The misaligned image is not à bad as it had been, previously. I have adjusted and retightened the knob/set screw several times (more out of minor Adrian Monkness than anything else). ---------- UPDATE ---------- Three weeks in an still working great. Actually even better than before. With the original controller the blower wouldn't m kick in fit quite some time. Since I swapped out the old unit, this controller When I received this I was first disappointed with the noticeable difference in the build quality between the OEM module and this replacement. At first I decided that I would not use it and purchase a proper replacement module locally (and pay the steep difference). Long story short, could not find one. Either order from my stove shop or Amazon and wait. The blurb started it was for gas and wood stoves. So I installed this controller. Pros: It works great, so far. Cons: Spade male connectors-needed female No instructions. BOTH wires were black, so had to guess what wire to use as white. Very light duty Based on current observations/experience I would buy this again, despite my initial reservation. p.s. Now I'm just waiting on the durability/longevity test.

Bought this to replace the speed control on a Blaze King fireplace insert. All of then that I have ever owned have had the fan speed control broken and stuck in one position. With this item I can now set the fan to a lower speed to reduce the noise in the room or crank it up to send more heat into the room. Works well and was easy to install .

This is not a rheostat. Looks to be some sort of triac or similar, does not work as advertised.
