Holy Smokes!
WOW. What a camera mount!! I got this specifically to use on my boat in Alaska for use when friends and family are out fishing with me. And what a good choice! This camera mount is incredible. It feels like it holds strong enough to do chin-ups on. Granted I have not put a large SLR or camcorder on it yet, but instead just some small point and shoot digitals, but it just feels VERY secure. In fact it takes more effort to get it OFF than to put it on. Securing it is a snap - just push it on, then move the lever over to the lock position. To take it off, move the lever again, and then you have to pull the tab on the suction cup itself to break the suction - that can be a challenge since it has great suction!I have placed it in a number of places, and on different surfaces, and have yet to have it not hold. Glass, smooth painted metal, vinyl covered metal and a plastic spot. All were very secure. The articulation of this thing is amazing - the RAM mount ball style joints give it pretty much any angle needed. By having 2 places to adjust the angles, you can put it into any angle or position needed. The camera mount is a standard size, and so far 3 different cameras have not had any issues.Sure it costs a little more than some other mounts, but the piece of mind in how well it secures is well worth the cost in my opinion. Next up to try on it is a remote operated digital SLR and a HD camcorder,of which I have no doubt that this mount will handle with zero issues.

Strong mount, with a few pitfalls
Before I continue the review, I used:Nikon D7000 35mm 1.82012 Subaru ImprezaFirst of all, this mount is rock solid when mounted properly. As long as you make sure the suction cups are firmly attached (meaning, you push them down twice, then secure them with the strong plastic clips), it's not going anywhere. I began testing the mount at 20mph, 30mph, and 55-60mph (highway) with the camera attached to my hood, in the direct center. At all of these speeds, vibrations were quite obvious, but I realized this wasn't a flaw of the mount, but what it's attached to, the car! Vibrations caused by bumps, uneven road surfaces, and things like that were all too apparent as the video I took continued. At slow speeds, video was flawless. I took a video from the driver's side door, and hood (left, then center). Aside from rocks hitting the UV filter attached when the mount was close to the tire, it performed flawlessly. The suction cups are secure, they tilt, and don't worry me whatsoever.Moving on from that, I did notice one little flaw- the length of the bar you attach the camera to. For shots with focal lengths above 20 (for example, 35mm) i'd recommend getting the extension arm, which I will be soon purchasing. For taking photos of my wheel as I drive, the camera would not go far enough out for the shot to look good, and the extension arm looks as if it'll help. The construction of it is very, very solid- hardened plastic, and steel make up the product entirely, aside from the suction cups, of course. This is by far the most affordable, and surprisingly secure mount you can get as a consumer.

Very durable
I bought this camera mount three years ago for use with my DSLR but to be honest I hardly ever used it until this year. I was always super paranoid about using it on the outside of a moving car with my DSLR, even after using it many times mounting it on the inside of a car (it never fell off or anything). Recently I mounted a GoPro onto the windshield of a Jeep and took it offroading. After 45 minutes or so of intense bumping and going over rough terrain, rocks and hills, this thing didn't budge! Make sure when you mount it the surface is clean and the suction cups aren't on top of any dirt, mud or other road junk. Also make sure it's not on top of any stickers or decals. I've found that the best way to mount it is to first loosen the knobs that control the angle for the suction cups, then once suctioned down, tighten those knobs. This thing is great and I don't regret getting one with three suction cups at all. I actually think the two suction cup model like this one gives you better flexibility and mounting options, especially when using a smaller/lighter camera (like a GoPro). After three years, this offroading test was the definitive test for me. I also left it on the windshield of the Jeep as we made our way back into town (make sure it's legal to mount a camera on the outside of a vehicle in your town/city/state). After this test I no longer have any worries of mounting this on the exterior of a moving vehicle with a small camera.Things to keep in mind: a GoPro in the waterproof case is nearly indestructible. Look up on YouTube the video of a skydiver accidentally dropping one out of a plane. It lands in a pig pen on a farm and is totally still functional (a pig actually tries to eat it - unsuccessfully, I might add). So even in a worst case scenario, the mount falls off the vehicle in some way, your GoPro will likely be fine.Even though I bought this originally to use with my DSLR I still have some reservations about mounting a DSLR on the exterior of a moving vehicle, simply due to the added weight. To be honest, even though this mount can support a DSLR, I think the use of an action cam like a GoPro is better anyway. I believe this simply because with a DSLR recording video you'll have no way of manually adjusting your camera settings; something you'll often need to do as the setting and lighting changes. With something like a GoPro the auto settings will adjust things accordingly (not perfectly, and I'm definitely a fan of shooting in all manual mode normally, but it's good enough). Of course this will depend on your specific needs, and I'm sure using one with a DSLR will probably turn out just fine.I would certainly buy this product again. And if I get additional GoPros then I definitely will so I can mount cameras all over the interior and exterior of a moving vehicle, instead of having to shoot things multiple times for each mounting position.

Double mount is great, and triple is probably best for regular, serious work.
Rock solid when supporting a small mirrorless camera with modest prime lens connected via a Sunway photo dial-clamp baseplate. There's no way I'd trust any single mount with a valuable camera, so I got this double mount and enjoyed using it for one shoot for about an hour. Clamped to a number of exterior locations for a moving automobile shoot - to a car door, hood, and roof. Very satisfied with its solidity. The only time this mount moved was when the car's surface was not rigid - like when we discovered from camera movement that the car's hood was quite flexible.THAT SAID, I'd recommend spending the extra bucks on the triple mount and really have a solid, stable mount with a tripod-like support. Based on what I experienced with the great double mount, I assume the triple mount would be superior in most ways to another product like the Cinetics MiniSquid (which I did not enjoy using).

great mount
recently purchased this mount for a trip to Lutsen ski resort on the North Shore of MN. Planned on using it to mount my drift camera on the outside of the car and onto my snowboard. the mount performed perfectly. in very harsh conditions (almost constant snow and temps that got down to 0 Fahrenheit) the mount never failed. snowboarded with it on for roughly 6 hours and never once did it budge or fall off. the mount was awesome on the car as well - suctioned right about the front tire well and got some awesome video. i have never been compelled to write a review of anything that i have purchased off of amazon before but because this thing took everything i could toss at it (which was quite a bit) and didn't show any signs of failing i had to review it. just make sure the suction cup is dry on the bottom and what you are suctioning to is dry and everything will be golden. hope this helps someone.

Great sturdy tripod alternative!
Absolutely love this product. Added a z-tilt mount to this and it works great. Fantastic for Micro-photography... stick it to a struerdy table and have at it. Strong enough to pick the end of my dining room table off the floor. Also a must have for night photography and low light outside photography too. Stick it on your vehicle and you won't find a more stable holder for your camera. Bought it to mount on the inside of my car window for taking lightning photos during a rain storm - unfortunately, I haven't been able to try it for this yet... no storms. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. Great substitute for a second tripod. Bought two and gave one to my brother. He loves it too!

Not for front windshield (inside)
I purchased the Fat Gecko Double Knuckle Dual Suction Cup mount in order to mount my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera to the front windshield. I understand that you can mount the device to a vertical surface like the window, or a smooth surface like the hood, roof etc... Who has a flat and smooth dashboard?I wasn't able to mount the camera in a way that will allow to take pictures. The arm was too short. I emailed Delkin, no one answer for a couple of weeks. I wanted this device to work, so I went ahead and ordered the extension kit. This came with three different length arms and I though I'll find what I need.... nope. It looks like the whole concept is missing one extra joint, where you can attach an arm on each side, das allowing the camera to rotate to a right side up position correctly...I tried to take images when the camera is mounted upside down... works great... but this is not the general idea. For now I have no real use for the $90 set, so I use it for my tiny Canon Powershot camera. It mounts itself right side up and the images are steady. My intent was to use the device for the DSLR camera mounted to the front windshield and that didn't work.Aside from my challenge, the suction cups are very strong to hold the Nikon D7000 with a lens mounted to the windshield upside down. Good construction. A bit of a challenge to remove the camera off the mounting screw, but overall, it didn't do what I wanted. Three stars for durability and good grip to the glass.

Great Mount for Car Shooting!
This mount is phenomenal. I currently use it with a Panasonic HD camera with fish-eye lens and hotshoe mic. The camera itself is a little older, so it's a little heavier than the ones sold today, and add to that the large glass lens. This mount holds it steady in a moving car with no issue! I tested it the other day and it's just a firm as my GoPro which uses only one of the suction cup mounts, but only weighs a few ounces! The only drawback is that when the mic is on my camera, I have to mount it upside-down and flip the video in editing because the arm isn't long enough - the mic hits the windshield if I mount it straight up. However, this is a generic mount made for a wide array of cameras, and it can't be expected to be custom fitted for every camera. I was going to swap out the tube in between the suction cups and the camera mount, but it's machined and can't be easily swapped.Still -- 5/5 stars. This is steady enough that I intend to use it for the upcoming racing season! (Autocross)

Awesome
No issues. Does the job. Great product

For the price - I expected better
Better than so many cheaper mounts whilst it did not take long before movement/slackness appeared where the extending tube fits and bolts to the base suction cap supported platform. The problem was not alleviated by any tightening of bolts and seems to be the consequence of wear to what must be cheap soft metal. Its getting harder to find quality - devices that do their job and do it well.

Can't hold it's stated weight
I was aiming to use this to hold my Sony A7C + lens that is less then the stated weight this should be able to handle. The suction cups has held in place and really grip on to glass or any other surfaces. The problem with holding the weight is in the ball joints. They are made of decent quality plastic, but tightening them to the max, I still can move them. This means that whatever way you want to set this up, it won't hold your camera in the direction you set it up in.
