Downton Abbey (Movie, 2019) [Blu-ray]

This complete series DVD set is awesome. It’s a great value for all 6 seasons. It’s a great series with very talented characters. The quality of the video and discs included in the set are great. I’ve had zero issues with playing the discs consistently. Highly recommended if you are looking for a great series to watch.

Binge worthy series. Be aware that the final episode ends the story abruptly and unresolved. There is included a film made later which is not a patch on the series. Not even close. You do find out what happens to the characters but the film is a lightweight, rather silly add-on.

The sixth season of “Downton Abbey” left off on New Year’s Eve 1925, with Mary and Edith both happily married, Tom Branson having found a place for he and Little Sibby at Downton, and with Lord Grantham having realized that Mary was the best person to manage the estate, both for her future and for her son, who will one day inherit it. The film picks up in 1927, with the impending arrival of King George V (grandson of Queen Victoria, grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II) and Queen Mary to Downton as part of their tour of the Yorkshire area.Though the staff look forward to the opportunity to see and serve the royals, the Royal Page of the Backstairs makes clear that he and the royal staff will supplant Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Patmore, Barrow, Bates and Anna, and the rest. Barrow refuses to be supplanted and takes a stand, earning Robert’s respect for his principles. Mary, hoping to keep things running smoothly, convinces Carson to come out of retirement. Meanwhile, a man seeks out Tom Branson and appears to be vetting him before the royal arrival, though Tom begins to suspect there’s more to it. The Dowager Countess looks forward to the arrival of Maud, Lady Bagshaw, the lady-in-waiting to Queen Mary and a cousin of Robert. Violet wants Maud to name Robert as her heir in order to consolidate some property that once belonged to the family, but Isobel realizes there’s more going on and works to find a compromise.The story features all the lush costume drama trappings that fans love and expect of “Downton Abbey.” It also offers one last chance to check-in on favorite characters. For example, while Sophie McShera’s Daisy still seems indecisive, there’s a nice role-reversal scene where she helps Mrs. Patmore to see the bigger picture and avoid hurting the greengrocer’s feelings. Where the television series had a perfect send-off with the end of one year and the coming of another, this film serves as a coda of sorts and looks forward. Even if series creator Julian Fellowes doesn’t make a sequel, fans can rest assured that their favorite characters are going on as they always have and that Downton is in good hands.This Blu-ray edition includes the movie on Blu-ray and DVD, with lots of behind-the-scenes extras as well as a photobook and recipe cards for those who want to try making some of the food they see in the film!

I received this order fairly quickly. After this order was put in quarantine for 1 day, I was excited to binge the series.However, in Each DVD pack (there were three to the set), the extra DVD holder sleeves that held 3 episodes each, were broken. Yet I held my breath and hope everything else would be fine.I began watching Season 1, but each DVD I tried to watch either Froze-up, pixilated, or skipped. It’s as if I wasn’t sent a New DVD set, only a previously owned or previously returned set, due to the amount of damage on each DVD.That was it for me. I decided instantly to Return the entire order.I won’t be reordering, because I fear it would only happen again, and this series was too expensive to invest in another set that would appear on the same monthly statement, especially during these trying times of the Covid-19 pandemic.I quickly went back to Amazon and started proceedings to Return for a Full Refund. I had absolutely no problems returning my order and I Was quickly Refunded the entire amount.

Gave this to my mom for Mother’s Day. She was thrilled.The problem was Season 2 Episode 9 does not exist on the disc. Yes it’s listed on the case, yet no episode 9.Make it right.

I loved this series when it first aired on public television and being able to see it from the beginning to end at my own pace had been great. Worth a second viewing... or a third... or more.
