Q: I own an echo plus; wanted something that is better sounding. seems slow to respond and the mic - i need to speak louder.anyone have the same problem?

I don't have an Echo Plus, but haven't had any issues with the Bose hearing me. Mind you, I use the Bose more for personal listening than with my various Echos, so it tends to be close to me, outside usually. I do find the Echos vary a lot though. The cheapest of the bunch, the Flex, hears the best, whereas my most expensive ones, the Shows, hear the worst.

Q: Does it have optical connections?

It is connected with my iphone with bluetooth.

It doesn't have a remote control, you have to use the Bose App on your smart phone.
