That without a doubt, would be any new Mother's worst nightmare!I lived that nightmare and am still affected by that cruelty to this day.Not being "allowed" to keep your baby because you were young and single is beyond belief! This atrocity has been kept SECRET for decades and needs to be exposed - the world needs to know.Kudos to you Karen - for your relentless determination to expose this deplorable truth in your new book "The Baby Scoop Era"

BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN PERTAINING TO FORCED ADOPTION!
Finally, an author tells the heinous truth about coerced (forced) adoptions during the Baby Scoop Era. Unwed mothers were ostracized, dehumanized by society, punished severely, and left with no other options but to surrender. It was an atrocity! You will read some very shocking but true facts as to what really happened during this time, and finally the myths that shroud adoption will be dispelled. It's a very educational and historical book -- one I feel should be read by every person in the adoption industry, every politician, every adoptee, exiled mother, fathers who had no rights back then, and psychologists. The damage that was done remains lifelong for both mother and child. If the acts of cruelty and illegalities that occurred during the Baby Scoop Era happened in this day and age, it would make front page news...These girls did not so much has even have a lawyer present before they were forced to relinquish their much wanted child to mere strangers. Nothing I can think of in American history and around the world could have been more barbaric! The adoption laws and closed records must change. It's long overdue. The damage that happened to those in the past can never be reversed. It is a lifelong sentence without parole. A must read for all!

A Cruel, Judgemental Social Experiment
How on Earth did society convince so many people that separating mothers and newborns was healthy or acceptable? The Baby Scoop Era was filled with shame, hypocrisy, greed, and barbaric Puritanism. Generations of families are damaged forever. Thank you, Karen, for dedicating your life to illuminating these truths and giving us this comprehensive book that describes how it all went down.

Chock full of quotes from professionals practicing during the BSE ...
Chock full of quotes from professionals practicing during the BSE. Some professionals expressed concern over the advisability of separating children from their mothers. Unfortunately, far more "adoption workers" demonstrated punitive & coercive behavior towards these vulnerable women. A travesty occured and apologies are long overdue. The scariest part is that the same behavior continues today with these vulnerable women. The adoption machine has only become more subtle and deceitful.

A Great Contribution to Adoption Literature.
I applaud Karen Wilson-Buterbaugh for her exhaustive research into this most painful of times in our history. Validating to me as a mother who lost a child to adoption at the height of the era, I am all too familiar with the pain, the numbness, and other symptoms of PTSD I continue to suffer nearly 54 years later. Reunion almost 28 years ago helped to quell the uncertainty, but the loss of aBABY, is nevertheless unmitigated and leaves lifelong consequences. This book is a must for every adoption library, be it personal or professional.

This book forces American Adoptees to Take Action
This is a historical piece of non-fiction which should propel American women to move against the evils of Church, Government and those institutions who caused two generations of children/adults to be challenged mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I, for one, knew this before I read it. This author finally published a source for us to expect restitution for their great crimes against humanity for profit gain by oppressing unwed mothers and leaving the orphans in life-changing difficulties. The people who engaged in this need to apologize but, instead, this unbelievably still is going on by our government and the medical/social work offices like State Department of Family Services and Mike Pence. These people still profit from us - we are the victims of their ignorance and oppression- the children of the unwed mothers suffer endlessly because we are the true victims.

A book that will open eyes to an abusive era!
Wonderful book that shines a bright light on a well kept secret, the Baby Scoop Era. By using professionals own words, you can hear the voices that perpetrated this mass theft of infants from their 4 million mothers. The book is a real "eye opener" and a must read for everyone! This book captures abuses to women, infants and even men, and should be exposed as this author has done, so that this tragic suppression and eradication of family identity never happens again.

It's a wonderful book. Documenting the realities of Pressures Placed on Unwed Mothers who were teenagers , who were looked upon by Society as Unfit to raise Thier own Children because THEY WERE NOT MARRIED... I would Recommend this book for any Mother Or Adoptee. These Practices were still in place in the late 70's. And continue even today. This Book shows the tactics used by the Adoption Industry and Social Workers .. Please do read this book. Hopefully we will one day see it in Schools , because it is a part of history.. Crimes against Women and their Children. The Truth must be Revealed.. I am a Woman who lost her Only Child in 1979. Ask a First Mother.. that is Me...I found her in 2016...
