Review: Photo Basics 404 uLite 2 Light Review - I'm very pleased with the light kit. There were no directions in the box so I called a buddy who has the same set up and he walked me through the assembly. Set up was easy and the lights performed a described. I ditched the 500 watt bulbs and ordered the 4 light adaptor. I'm using 4 CF bulbs to reduce heat. On a down note there was no paperwork in the box. I contacted desertcart and they said I had to contact the company. I emailed a young lady named Jennifer Holtsberry from Westcott and asked for the warranty card, directions and parts list twice and she blew me off both times. I really wanted the paperwork in case I have to order parts in the future. I would rank the Customer Service as poor. I'll probaby end up copying my friends paperwork. I use the lighting to take pictures for eBay and I'm very pleased. The desertcart price was about $30.00 less than Wolfe Camera and with SuperSaver Shipping, shipping was free. Good Deal ! Review: lights arrived with only one bulb working. lights burn ... - lights arrived with only one bulb working. lights burn VERY hot, and the only bulb that was working caught fire during use, disconnected from the socket and almost shattered on the floor!

Perfect 2-light kit
After considering and reviewing multiple 2-light constant lighting kits from various manufacturers. This Westcott uLite kit is pretty awesome, especially from the price. The packaging is small, so I can store it anywhere in my house when it's not in use. The setup was super simple and only took a few minutes. I own other Westcott products but I wanted to play with their constant lights. This setup allows me to photograph my kids and my pets and the images are great. I like the fact that I can put other bulbs in the uLites. I'm definitely going to pick up the 4-socket adapter, which from what I've read can allow me to put multiple fluorescent bulbs. I definitely made the right purchase and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a durable, well-made, cost effective constant lighting kit.

Let there be light
The lights are good value and are easy to put up and use. They have multiple adjustments, which make moving the light to where it is needed easy. The only problem is that they are somewhat top heavy, so considerable care has to be taken when moving power cords or they will tip over.

Bargain lighting system - Potential for Damage
Tired of renting lights every time I had a small product shoot I purchased the Westcott 2-Light kit. The kit arrived and that is where the trouble began. The items were not well packaged, the photoflood bulbs had no protective packaging and were crushed in shipping. I should have sent the whole thing back, but instead I accepted a refund for the cost of replacing the bulbs. It was easy to put the light kit together. It is a bit top heavy but seemed sturdy enough. There is a collar that must be pushed down around the base of the light bulb. On a small card included in the documentation there is a warning that reads, "Failure to lock the soft box into place will result in the soft box collapsing onto the lamp and the potential for damage." I made sure the ring was pressed into place and started using the lights. I set the lamps into place for the shoot and used them off and on during the day. Toward the end of the day I moved the lamps to set up for the next set of shots. Everything was fine for about 15 minutes into the second set-up. Then I smelled something burning. Smoke was coming from one of the lights. I shut off the power and opened up the soft box. The box had not collapsed but the ring had popped free and was now melted and fused to the hot bulb. I contacted Photobasics customer service by email. No answer - waited 48 hours. I called them (they do not have a toll free number). I explained what happened. The customer service rep told me that this is a common problem. That is why they include instruction in the documentation included. She said, "I tell them that they should make the card larger." I said that would not have made a difference because I read the card and did as instructed and the ring still caused damage to the light with the potential of starting a fire. I was advised that because this happens with some frequency they offer a new part for it that you can purchase at your own expense... The design of this item is a defect. There is nothing to guarantee that the lamp collar will stay in place permanently. You would have to take the face off of the softbox and check often to make sure the ring stays in place. (You would have to wait for the collar to cool off first) Unacceptable for an item that generates that much heat. Basically the company places the blame on consumer error. I ended up wasting my money, don't waste yours. My set is going in the dumpster and I will continue to rent lights.

Immediately came apart & melted
I got this in high school as my first soft box set, for my birthday.. I was very excited about it, unfortunately, being new to it, we didn't realize that the bulbs got SO hot. That was the first problem. Second, as other people have previously mentioned, it is very hard to put together.. You feel like you need to protect your face as you bend the metal rods into place and stretch the over-tight fabric. I tried my best to put it together and thought I did well when I finally got it after much struggling. About 15 minutes into taking pictures for the first time, I heard a pop and smelled burning plastic.. Part of the ring had popped off and the bulb burned through the fabric. It was horrifying- I was afraid I'd burn the house down. The bulb/fixture/box weren't salvageable as the bulb had melted everything, but I kept the stand and still use that with wireless flashes now... If you flip through the papers they included in the box and/or call them, they won't do anything about this if it's "user error," but it seems like this is a very common problem..

Don't waste your money.
Flimsy construction. First time I set the lights up I was nervous that something was going to break as I compressed and "snapped" the ring that expands the soft box arms into place. Sure enough, as I gingerly tried to reverse the procedure and remove the ring from where it was seated the ceramic (or whatever its made of) outer covering for the light socket cracked and fell apart. Seriously?! A bit more thought should have gone into this crucial part of the construction.
