Well-Spoken Woman: Your Guide to Looking and Sounding Your Best Review: Wow - Perfect for any woman who plans on having career goals that involve getting in front of audiences. This book seems superficially focused at first, but Jahnke does a brilliant job revealing that how one's external posture, apparel, expressions, etc are actually the sounding board of how any person views themselves- and when you don't take care of those details, the results can be destructive to your career. She also gives great outlines of how to structure speeches depending on what your goals are with your audience. She uses tons of examples throughout political history, and I'll admit I had to use Wikipedia to look up many of her references, but I'm thankful I did. The real life stories of other women making this world a better place will push you past your own comfort zone, and hopefully pursue your own goals and dreams. Review: Wonderful tools and guidelines - Great book! It is full of very practical tips and guidelines that will make any woman a confident speaker. There was so much that I actually hadnt read elsewhere. I love the fact that she details such simple guidelines as how to stand on stage (the champion stance); how to make eye contact (the 4 box diagram); how to walk on stage (the 3 star diagram). I think it is a must read for any professional (even men).

I recommend it for women in business
This book is very helpful for teaching women how to be a strong speaker. I wish I had read it long time ago. I recommend it for women in business. There are parts about dress that need to be updated. It might have been better left out or been more generic but the rest is wonderful.

Very good book.
Whether you choose to follow a path that will include speaking in front of people or not, I found this a very handy reference book. Even making small subtle changes will improve your professional aspect. As a receptionist for a large company, I do speak to a lot of individual people throughout the day. By following the advice and examples in the book, I'm communicating better. Customers like my new attitude and my co-workers are taking me seriously.

I found very many good hints to help women become professional speakersin this book
I found very many good hints to help women become professional speakersin this book. Despite the many great examples, the author focuses on the American environment only, and consequently uses American examples. The book would have been far more valuable for non-American women if she had brought in examples from women leaders from other continents and countries.

Well Done!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Well-Spoken Woman. Jahnke's presentation of profiled speakers is entertaining and inspiring. It enables her to make her points with ease and clarity. It's a wonderful book--great job. Joan McWilliams, author of The PeaceFinder: Riley McFee's Quest for World Peace and Parenting Plans for Families After Divorce.

So far so good
I'm still on the first chapter but the introduction was good and they're covering 10 female speakers who communicate effectively in different ways. So far, the book is keeping my attention.

this is what every woman needs to read...

Reading it I realized it is much more focussed on public speaking or speaking on camera (especially in the US) and less on general/professional assertiveness, which would have been more along my interests.
