Well Said: Pronunciation for Clear Communication

This book is very good. However, this paperback version is associated with 4 audio CDs. The book without CDs is useless. So, bear in mind that you will pay extra $35 for the audio CDs unless you can get them another way.I received the CDs and they are working fine. However, CD 4 is kind of bad. It took longer time for me to copy it.

This book is required for my English Pronunciation Class. I ordered last Wednesday and to my surprise I got it in my postbox at that Saturday. It's so fast. Thanks.This book is good for foreigner to learn US English, My teacher recommend it to us. I like to keep it.

It is a good book for international students or scholars whose first language is not English. Begin with Articulation and then go on with rhythm and stress in sentences. You can learn somethings that is different from you learned in your own country. Especially good for learning by oneself.

A few weeks ago, I was in an urgent need of the book, and the book did arrive at house on time, I was so happy that day. Recommend you to choose this shopping place!

this book is used in my level 3 ESL speaking class. compared to other ESL speaking textboos, the contents seemed to be okay. I'm using another book, which is named "TARGETING PRONUNCIATION-W/5 CDS" 2ND ED by Miller. Personally this book was more helpful for me to reduce my accents, compared to Well Said. but Well Said is also okay in learning stresses and he basic essential aspects of speaking English.

I cannot believe that this book does NOT include a CD for students to be able to 'hear' - it constantly refers to a CD but none is included with the book

This is a review on Chapter 7 (Rhythm), Chapter 9 (Intonation), and Chapter 10 (Linking). I have not read the rest of the book yet, but on Amazon.co.uk's invitation, I am eager to say how much I like what I've read and used so far.This 3rd edition comes with audio CDs, which is a much preferred medium over the cassette tapes one. The symbols used in INTONATION is visibly easier to understand too.In general, WELL SAID presents topics of pronunciation in an easy-to-understand style for learners: linguistic terms are simplified or replaced; learners are made aware of the big picture of pronunciation while each of the building blocks is being discussed. For example, weak forms are grouped under RHYTHM instead of being treated as an independent topic like most other books.Examples and exercise in all of RHYTHM, INTONATION, CONNECTED SPEECH are marvelous and effective to enable learning.I bought the book and the CDs two weeks ago. I was thrilled with what I'd seen. Then I discovered that an "instructor's manual" has been published. After some searching efforts, I bought my copy elsewhere on the web. The simple instructions there and the concise background information are extremely helpful to instructors.Having said the above, I wish the following two topics had been included in this 3rd edition:1 Vowel to vowel linking in Connected speech - consonant to vowel linking is being discussed but I could not find V-V linking2 Fall-rise tone and Rise-fall tones to be introduced to complete the use of tones.WELL SAID is a top-notch book. It has handled the most complicated topics in pronunciation most effectively. This is the reason I like this book.
