They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Set up and ready to go!
Will update this review after the product works. Received, kudos to the driver in assisting me getting the 240 pound box to the apartment. (Yes, for those of you buying this - the unassembled bike in the box weighs 240 pounds.)Assembly is straightforward - pay attention to laying out all the parts in order per the instructions. The very last step of assembly is a bear. (Photo to follow.) I live alone. You have to hold the heart rate monitor bar against the back of the upright bar at a specific angle, then hold the seat back against the front of the upright bar, then bolt through the heart rate monitor bar, through the upright bar, and into the seat back. That's at least 5 hands. The secret? ZIP TIES - I used 2 zip ties on opposite corners of the heart rate monitor bar to the upright bar, then held the seat back against the front of the bar and got the first bolt started.Got it assembled, sat down, started pedaling, nothing. Pedaled for a minute, still nothing. Called the company Tuesday morning, they called back Tuesday afternoon and said someone would call 'the next morning' to figure out 'next steps'. (Probably scheduling a local service tech to check it out.) I've partially disassembled and re-assembled it, checking wiring connections, un-clipping and re-clipping, it's all good. So we'll see.UPDATE:Serviceman showed up, was knowledgeable about the product, tested, verified inoperative, disassembled and found a wiring plug unplugged deep inside the front portion of the bike - not something I had to assemble. Plugged it in, I'm in business.Tested it last night with my first 30 minute workout, seems to be just fine.

one great exercise bike
Just received my exercise bike the other day and found it to be everything I hoped it would be. First I received my order in three day. Second the bike was very well packed with foam blocks and wood braces, no damage or parts missing. It is very heavy but I like it for it's rock sloid. It seemed to me it was very easy to put together about an hour or so. I'm 6'4" and 280lbs and have no problem raching the panel because you must peddle to keep power, it is very smooth and guite, for me it is a great purchase from Amazon.

Effective but difficult to assemble/use.
This bike is a good workout. But, it was very difficult to assemble and is hard to use to maximize the benefit. The monitor is powered only while you're peddling. So you have to peddle while you lean forward and try to enter your settings. I haven't mastered that yet. It's also extremely heavy so it's difficult to move.
