This Whistle Saved Our Lives
When I bought this whistle, I imagined it would be nothing more than one of the many trinkets I own for emergency situations, but never use.I brought this whistle with me on a family vacation the Philippines. Everyone poked fun at the whistle because I tend to be over prepared. But no one could foresee that this little whistle would be the one thing that actually saved our lives! My family and I were on the island of Palawan and rented a private boat tour for the day. We were supposed to tour a few different islands in the area and be brought back to shore. About midway through our tour, in the middle of the ocean our boat was cut into by the massive waves (what our "captains" neglected to mention was that a Gale warning was in effect and boats were supposed to be out of the water hours prior) and in a matter of seconds our boat completely submerged. We grabbed everything we could and with our life jackets strapped on were floating in the middle of the ocean- no swimmable land in sight.I went into survival mode and the first thing I did was blow with fierceness into this Acme whistle, weary that anyone would hear it but feeing as though it was our only hope. Our boat had no method of communication, no walkies or dispatch. It also ran on a gasoline engine- we were drenched in gasoline as the 3-4ft waves thrashed around us.After about 5 minutes of using this whistle a boat appeared in the distance. What we would find out later was that they were on their way to shore (also due to the intensity of the waves) and that they could not see us because of the height of the waves, but the only thing they could hear was the blowing of our whistle and the very tip of our boat before it sank completely. This whistle saved our lives, and no one was laughing at it afterwards! I've had many family members and friends who have asked me for the link to purchase. I definitely recommend having this whistle with you if you're out on the water, it's truly a lifesaver.

Worth the money for the peace of mind it provides
My daughter was a little concerned about a short walk from where she parks to her high school. Now and then she sees some crackheads wandering around and it made her uncomfortable. I think she could deck one of these guys with a good punch or kick, but just in case I got her an acme whistle to carry on her lanyard. She thinks the blast of sound from this whistle would most likely give any of these guys a heart attack - and there are other kids in the area so it's not like she is really alone. It does give her a sense of security, and is light and small - and I warned her about not blowing it in school. Well worth the money

So loud I plug my ears
I got this for two reasons.1.) To completely annoy drunks at a bar I work At.2.) To keep in my outdoor gear for emergency signalling reasons. It's so loud that I have to plug my ears to comfortably blow it full-force!It's also become the Bane of those drunks existence, they'd fight me, but I'm the bouncer.Semi-cons...While its construction is more than durable enough to survive hard drops and long falls onto rocks (I've done both)Due to its construction, I wouldn't give it crushing force anytime soon.It is lightweight. Which is mixed. It's great for weight reduction as far as your gear goes, but it also means you don't have as much tactile feedback if it's in your pocket.Personally, I just Put a lanyard on it, and try not to step on it.

loud sturdy tiny whistle
I've owned many whistles over the years. I commute by bike and a whistle is the only practical way to be heard inside a car or through headphones. A polite bell just doesn't do it. This whistle is light enough to carry in my lips and its loud enough to do the job of alerting pedestrians and drivers to stop their wandering ways. It also works to repel chasing dogs and aggressive panhandlers. Its not the loudest whistle I've ever used but it's the loudest compact whistle I've used. I also keep a glow in the dark one on my keys and it lives there unobtrusively. As one might expect of a keychain, it only sees a few minutes of light a day, yet still manages to glow softly all night. This is great as a small light also lives on my keys and this whistle makes it easy to find in the dark. I've used my whistle several times to diffuse potential muggings by looking at people suspiciously following me straight in the eye and whistling my fool head off. Let me tell you it attracts attention which is exactly what that kind of person doesn't want. This is totally not going to work if you're clueless or wait until they're right up on you and can silence you permanently.

Super small but will blow your eardrums if necessary
Super small but will blow your eardrums if necessary. I'm a runner, so I carry this with me for three reasons primarily: (1) just in case I run across some creepy person who wants to do me harm and I need to alert anyone nearby; (2) to scare off dogs and other wildlife (I've been bitten on the hand by a dog before and suffered permanent nerve and tendon damage); and (3) for when I hit the trails or run a mountain in case help is needed (blown knee, ACL, etc.). I'm not old but I'm not young anymore either and that sort of thing happens.I bought one for my wife, too.I'd like to think everyone I come across running is a nice person, but that's just not reality. Criminals are opportunistic. A serial killer/rapist was recently nabbed after 10 years where I live. Not to mention, you just meet some weirdos running sometimes. Anyone who runs know this. The purpose of this purchase: to alert someone of danger or when help is needed. And while I hope I never have to use it, if I do, I have it.
