The Revenge of Seven: Lorien Legacies, Book 5

Today is my lazy day. So I'm going with the old reliable, the list:The good stuff about The Revenge of Seven:- More actiony things happen. I didn't at all mind the inertia of The Fall of Five because I enjoyed the day-in-a-life vibe that book had, but I know readers who felt that that book was just serving as a placeholder. In The Revenge of Seven, each of the Garde has something to do.- Sarah is barely in the book as, early on, she's shuffled off on her own mission. Sarah is the least contributing recurring character in this series. Sorry about that, John Smith. Or, hell, maybe I'm still shipping John and Teresa Pa- um, Six.- Thanks to the swerve moves of Adam's defecting to the Garde and Setrákus Ra's abduction of Ella, we're made privy to certain insights on the Mogadorians.- More Chimæra - and they are cute and awesome!- Malcolm's badass sharpshooting skills- Things are finally coming to a head! No more aimlessly running around and reacting with kneejerk abandon. It feels like there's more purposeful direction now in the Garde's planning.- We finally learn what the Lorien elders were up to with all their visits to Earth down the centuries and their long-play gambit to save Earth from the impending Mog invasion.- The action sequences are dope! My favorite combat sequence happens in the swamps when Six, Marina, and Nine instinctively use teamwork to take out a crew of Mogadorian scouts.The crap stuff:- The title is misleading. Marina - a.k.a. Seven - doesn't revenge anyone. Yeah, for most of the book, she walks around seething and she's certainly more hostile and more aggressive in combat. So that's a shift from her normally shy and quiet demeanor. But she barely has dialogue. She doesn't even have her own P.O.V. And it's not like she overshadows the other Garde when it comes to kicking Mogadorian butt.- Early on, in the Florida swamps, Marina doesn't care if they blow their cover in front of a drunk. I understand that Seven is mad with grief, but it's a bonehead move that could've come back to bite them.- The early bits where John Smith acts like a jerk towards Adam. I get it, he doesn't trust Adam, this weird Mog who mysteriously rescued them while Nine's Chicago safe house was destroyed. But, jeez, dial it down, dude. That's not how to be a leader.- Five's story arc is all over the place.- It's nuts because it happens in real life, but it bothers me that the Garde pepper their conversations with casual profanity (mostly the "s" word), and, yep, I know they did this in the last book, too. I think it's mostly because of the lack of consistency, because the first two books rarely indulged in the potty mouth. Crap, I think I'm a prude.- The book just sort of ends during the middle of an action sequence. Okay, it's on a cliffhanger, but still...- Not enough Bernie Kosar!In the end I liked The Revenge of Seven, enough to recommend it. Yes, there's plot progression in the sense that the Garde scramble around on key missions. The Garde may have purposeful direction now as we get closer to the big finish, but there's still a sense of plates spinning and characters running in place. Five books in, I'm at the point now where I clamor for the end game. It's gratifying that the last forty pages or so bring about that tipping point. The story is told thru the first person perspectives of John, Six, and Ella, and in varying fonts. The author, "Pittacus Lore," again makes use of present tense storytelling and simple sentence structure, and I guess it lends a more immediate feel to the story. Maybe this style will draw in young adults who normally can't be bothered to read books. If you're a fan of the deftly penned yarn, this isn't for you. If you like really cool fighty fights and explosions and heavy teenage angst and a romantic interlude or two, then have at it. This is the literary version of a Michael Bay motion picture. But here's the thing: I'm deeply invested in the series, so maybe my judgment is clouded. Why else am I giving it 4 out of 5 stars?As ever, long live Bernie Kosar!

I have loved this series since the get go. The whole "Piticus Lore" ghost writer thing, and the "WE ARE NOT ALONE!" secretive undertone, is a really cool twist. The whole book being presented as a "They are among us" underground novel was a brilliant idea. But I ALMOST gave this book only four stars. I was a bit disappointed in the ending and the huge secret of the Loriens was ....well, you decide for yourself...Review time:Giant Mogadorian ships hover over all major cities. Their fighters flitting about. The Mogs and the mysterious men in black are working together. The people of earth are enthralled! Loriens are scattered again! After just finally finding one another. Everything is falling apart. ..WTH!? Well, it seems with the gathering of the Loriens in the earlier books is all for naught. Setrakis Ra takes on human form (a beautiful human form at that) and is wooing the Earth's upper government into an alignment. And has been for some time!!Sam's father was right, but he had no idea the depth of the insidious rot! Promises of medical miracles, and advanced weaponry are just too persuasive...The reason for his desire to own all of the Lorien's legacy pendants becomes clear. He can assimilate their legacies. But that's not all they can do.A mysterious place surfaces..."The Sanctuary"..A mysterious pyramid, somewhere in the center of a steamy jungle in southern Mexico protected by Lorien magic, perhaps holds the key to everything....The Mogs have it surrounded, but for a Mog to touch it's Lorien shield is instant ash time for Them.The children of Loric fight on...(or flee on) after the traitorous number five nearly successfully engineers a trap that would have killed or captured most of the Loriens left,. He is at odds with himself now, when he realizes that Setrakis has lied to him as well... Ella is held captive by Setrakis Ra . He tells her of her lineage. Could it be true? The tall dark and cruel Mogadorian soldiers are just "Lab rats!" Born in a test tube with no souls, but Setrakis Ra is not one of them. He is something else entirely!! (No spoilers please) She refuses to believe or become part of what he insists is her destiny. Her legacy tells her that he might be right! But in her heart she is bound and determined to change the visions that haunts her; even as she watches helplessly as events unfold towards that exact end.After Nines giant pent house goes up in flames; their hideout, their only place of respite...John does something that he thought he would never do: he sends Sarah away to be with her X boyfriend Mark! No way, right!? Well, It seems Mark is now the leader of the "They Walk Among Us" group. The once corny, and dubious alien conspiracy magazine is now an actual movement. Their secret is out after all. AND, also to get her to safety. He must find Six, Sam and the rest. He has to stop all this! There is going to be a Grand entrance held to welcome the new visitors to Earth. John is determined to be there to stop it! Ella's vision seems to be coming true right before our eyes folks!! ******Warning! The last bit HINTS at things to come*******When five decides to try to make amends for his traitorous actions that caused the death of (?******?) ...it's almost too late. But his actions do help John and Ella reveal the true Setrakis to the misguided earthlings! Revealed at last ...will the bombs begin to fall?

Great books, easy to read and stay focused. Don’t have to re-read paragraphs to get focused again.

I loved reading this page turner. I was guessing around every chapter and questioning everything that I thought I knew about the Lorien.

It gives me everything I love about the series: Action, chemistry, and a fascinating fictional story that utilises aliens and superpowers. But the way this entry bashes your mind with sensational surprises just frazzles my synapses.The Lorien Legacies series, so far, has been able to build with passionate fire. Each book grows more and more cataclysmic and heroic.And if the ending of The Revenge of Seven is any indicator, things are about to combust in a very conclusive way...I need oxygen!Or maybe a life-support machine...SynopsisThe worst was supposed to be over.We were reunited after a decade apart.We were discovering the truth about our past.We were training and getting stronger every day.We were even happy...But we never imagined the Mogadorians could turn one of our own against us. We pick up only a few days after the events of The Fall of Five, and an emotional beginning leads into an action-packed adventure that expands the series' mythology and regales the reader with riveting revelations.I really wish we could bottle the action this series does so well. As is standard so far, The Revenge of Seven has a solid structure that is practically infallible. Its balance of high-octane events and exposition is perfect, and even when the two collide, you're nothing short of breathless.And the finale... I just want to blurt out everything in capital letters, but it's better experienced; my little review won't hit you like this novel's conclusion will. What I will tell you is it's catastrophic and exhilarating.A full-blown invasion is here.Pace - 5/5 StarsI read so many fast-paced novels that I'm running out of ways to describe them.The brilliant balance also has the added benefit of giving the reader a smooth and rapid journey that coalesces into all-out war.God, I cannot wait to get to the next instalment.Characters - 5/5 StarsThe Revenge of Seven, while a story that does wonderful work for all of its cast, focuses on three main viewpoints: Four's, Ten's, and Six's. Being a fan of the series, it's no longer even a slight problem for me to ascertain whose perspective I'm reading from. The layout is done to avoid confusion.I am a part of these characters now. The author plays so well with morality that, thanks to the histories they've lived through, even when a character does something we would deem wrong, we understand.The feel of unity is also a major theme, and while so far we've been avidly awaiting that moment the good guys all come together, it's never occurred to me that one of them could be compromised. But on a larger scale the series is essentially about humanity. The Loric are the better, more nurturing part of the human race, while the Mogadorians are the selfish, destructive part. Light and dark, both battling for dominance, both a startling part of the human condition.With humanity stuck in the middle of the war between two vastly different races with two radically different ideals, it's hard not to draw the apt parallels between them and our species in reality. And horrifying to see the eventual overlap.It highlights the core difficulty of living in the real world; all of us have the potential to be good or bad, but most of the time, we're a combination of both.Writing - 5/5 StarsPresent tense. First-person narration.It's simple, clean, and direct.Lightning-quick and informative don't cover it.You'll love it.Overall - 5/5 StarsYesterday I downloaded United as One, which I think is the seventh and final entry to the series. Before that, though, there's The Fate of Ten, which I'm gagging to start.Did I mention that cliffhanger?Has anyone got around to bringing me a life-support machine yet?

This is the first book, since the first one, that I have really enjoyed. The other books were good. No denying that, but they all lacked something. They were all disappointing in some way. This book however, was exciting, impelling, intriguing, filled with answers, filled with questions and that ending though, I don't know if I want it too be true or not. Interesting stuff.The Mogadorian invasion has arrived. Can the Garde stop them before it's too late. Will they lose anymore friends along the way? Will they gain any allies? Will humanity figure out who the Mogadorians truly are, before their demise is final? Read this book to find out more of the answers to these compelling questions.If you've enjoyed all the other books, this one will be no different. It captivates you. Dangles the answers in front of your face and then pulls them away at the last second. Leaves you wanting more. The fact of the matter is, this series has been building toward a big epic final book, where life as we know it will change forever, let's just hope that the writers deliver the book the readers and fans deserve. They've taken us on an epic journey, a journey that's nearing it's end.There is nothing this book lacks. It's filled will the characters we love, the characters we hate. The action, the emotion. Comedy and drama.About that ending. It came as a surprise to me. I didn't realise the book was about to finish. So when I read that last paragraph and turned the page expecting an explanation, finding only the end of the book, the excitement and the curiosity that brimmed to the surface was huge. To end it like that. So unexpected was annoying, but oh so good. As I've said I don't know if I want the writers to go down that path, but at the same time it would be great to see where it leads.You'll find out what I mean when you read the book.This book is highly recommended.

Before you read this review, please note that The Revenge of Seven is book five in the Lorien Legacies series.I went into this book a little wary because it'd been a year and a half since I finished book four, The Fall of Five. I couldn't really remember what was going on other than the basics, and I was concerned it was going to take me a long time to get into it. Massive credit must go to Lore, as it turned out I hadn't forgotten any of the main characters.Even though I was thrilled to fall back into the story without much of a worry, I struggled to get into it. It felt really slow to start, especially because everything is running out of time and some serious battles are about to happen. I just wanted to get on with it. I couldn't help but feel like a lot was saved for the next book as, to be honest, not that much happened in this one. The Revenge of Seven felt a lot shorter and simpler than usual. It didn't feel like it had quite as much plot. Not that there wasn't enough going on -- there was -- but it didn't feel as much as usual. There was less action than usual too, but it was still pretty intense.Once I got into it, I read huge chunks at a time, and it didn't take me many sittings to devour the whole thing. I even bought the last two books before I finished this one! This series sort of grabbed hold of me when I read I am Number Four, and it hasn't seemed to let go of me since. I still have no idea how the series is going to end, and I love that.As before, I liked Six's narration the best, and I was disappointed when her chapters were over. Nine and Six are still my favourite characters, but I do love all the Garde. They're all so different from each other, which makes them interesting to read about and kept me turning pages. I have to say though, the human characters didn't grip me nearly as much.Unfortunately, I've only just finished The 5th Wave trilogy, and as far as alien stories go, I can't help but compare. I know I shouldn't because John and the Garde are awesome and we're not so fussed by the humans in this seires, but I'm afraid the awesomeness of The 5th Wave did make this a little less exciting than it would've been a few months previous.Even so, I had a wonderful time reading this book, and I can't wait for books six and seven to come through my letter box.The Revenge of Seven felt like a filler book, but was still intense and gripping!First Blogged Here: [...]

another great book in the Lorien legacies series. Was fast paced and left me wanting to keep going to see what would happen next. Without giving to much away this book starts where book 4 finished with John Smith aka number 4, Sam, Sarah and Malcolm having just escaped from the John Hancock building with their lives and without Ella who was taken by the mogs at the end of the last book. 6, 9 and Marina aka number 7 are lost in the jungle grieving the loss of yet another member of the garde and struggling with the realisation that one of their own betrayed them. Both groups are unaware of what has become of each other. This book explains a little more about the mogs and their leader Sakrus Rah and where they came from. Also it gives us more information about Ella who always believed that she was to have been number 10 but that she had missed the ship. She found out in an earlier book that this was not true but Ella is still important to the story more important I think than even she realises you will need to read the book to find out why.

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book right up until the last few pages.I am a big fan of the "I Am Number Four" series, and I think that all the previous novels, including the miniature novellas that flesh out the chronicle of the Garde and Lorien, are brilliant. However, I was a bit let down by this one.Has no-one else picked up on the fact that despite this being called "The Revenge of Seven", Seven (Marina) has almost no part in the book? Also none of the narrative is attributed to her (it's all John/Four, Six and Ella/Ten), which is odd given that the title suggests that the book is mainly about her. Added to this, there is no element of her taking any revenge on the Mogadorians . . . . . . .In "The Fall of Five" you could almost feel her rage after the battle in Florida where Five kills Eight. Therefore I was expecting her to come roaring back for revenge in this book (as the title suggests) but it didn't happen!! Where is the revenge then?? The title of the book is therefore misleading, as is the synopsis, which says, "I am Number Seven. I will make them pay.” But she doesn’t!!! As I got closer to the end of the book I kept expecting Seven/Marina to do something but she just didn’t, and that was really disappointing.The rest of the book was really good – great pace, exciting fight scenes and believable dialogue (even if it is a tad irritating at times, particularly from Nine). I was pleased that Adam and Malcolm both had significant parts in it, and that General Andrakkus Sutekh gets his comeuppance. As with the other books in the series there were some loose ends which will no doubt be tied up in the next instalment, which I’m eagerly awaiting despite this somewhat negative review.In summary this was a good story but the title and synopsis are both very misleading. That’s why it only has 3 stars from me.
