Syma S107G 3 Channel RC Helicopter with Gyro, Blue

I have owned a couple of these made from different manufacturers a while back and although fun, did not hold up and perform as well as these from Syma do! Right out of the box this chopper took to the air with its leftover factory charge and with just a tad of trim I had it at a perfect hover. Steering was super easy so flying forward or backwards was a simple and stable action. No they are not fast but they were not built to be fast. Its a fun indoor flyer and super durable. My 7yr daughter has already learned to do a perfect hover and is now flying around and landing on different things without me coaching her. With that being said the landing competitions have ensued and her and I have crashed plenty of times......not a single broken component yet! Be sure to shut the throttle off when you see your about to impact something and all should survive. If something does break, they offer complete parts packages for replacements which make this an even more reasonable choice for indoor flyers. Out of the 3 previous mini choppers I have owned in the past, these are by far the best. Solid build, stable flight performance, crash survivability and price motivates me to give 5 stars. I have also read a few threads about people modifying them to achieve different flight characteristics so I will research that some more and see what I may be able to do. Mods are always fun but I like it as is for now, simple, effective and durable= fun! You will need six AA batteries for the controller but that is so you can recharge off the controller itself with its built in cord or use the optional USB charger cord it comes with and save those batteries. Reminder that it is a IR controlled model which means it needs line of sight with the controller to fly so flying outside in the sun wont work out to well for you. You may also want to turn off your ceiling fans because it will get blown around quite easy. Other than that this is a great toy and will not disappoint!

It's sort of pointless adding a review to the myriad 5-star reviews already here, but I'll go ahead and do it anyways. Santa Claus brought one of these both to my almost-6-year-old son, as well as my 65-year old dad this Christmas. Both are loving their helicopters! Let's look at two factors, performance and ease. First, performance. My son had had the Airhogs model for a year prior to this Christmas, and it was a lot of fun, but this Syma helicopter takes it up a notch in professionalism, and even better, is easier to fly! Whereas the Airhogs model only went up and down, and rotated, this Syma model can go in 6 directions. It is so easy to take off and land, and a joy when you point the controls forward and it tilts ahead and zooms off just like a real helicopter. What's more, the sturdy metal construction, and collapsible rotors make this thing durable! It can hit walls, tables, lamps, etc, and as long as you release the throttle, the blades collapse, it rolls a bit, and you're ready for another takeoff! Second, ease. The helicopter looked a bit daunting out of the box, bigger than the little red Airhogs, with four serious looking blades. I was worried it would be too fast, or complicated. I couldn't have been more wrong. It leaps into the air on takeoff, and hovering is as easy as it could be. I mastered it with ease, and then handed the controls to my son, who is almost 6. He had learned how to do the Airhogs already, but it was always a little tricky. He is like Top Gun with this Syma helicopter. Although the box says 14+ for ages, if you have a younger kid who you feel would be good with R/C toys like this, I am confident he/she will do well and have a lot of fun. You just need to supervise, and holler for them to release the throttle if it crashes! In short, incredibly performing indoor helicopter for all ages at a spectacular price. I am considering snapping up a few more to store away for birthday presents this year!

I was looking to get into the world of RC aircraft, and did a bit of research on different available products. I wanted to stay inexpensive, and this sure fit the bill, though I was skeptical how great a ~$20 helicopter can be. Probably one of the best Jacksons I've spent in a while. These RCs are surprisingly responsive, and after a bit of practice, super easy to control - it will hover in place. After probably an hour or so, you'll be a natural. They're pretty darn durable for the most part, and replacement parts are readily available online. You can take a few pieces off to make it quicker and have a longer run time, though this compromises the durability. I removed the 2 rear support beams, the rear fin, and the landing runners, and difference was quite noticeable. It did float forward when at idle, because this threw off the weight balance, but I was looking for speed. Some people also put a bigger battery in it; I didn't bother. My first one broke after the first flight, and was not repairable. A set screw for the lower prop stripped out the plastic hole it screws into, so I would have needed to replace the whole body. I probably could have got the parts, but instead I took a trip to Fry's, where I bought another one for $20. So now I'm in for $40, but in my opinion, still worth it. In this price range, there isn't much of a quality difference, not until you get well over $100. My second has been running great for the past ~month. I did manage to break the landing runner bracket from several high falls and collisions (5-10'), but nothing super glue couldn't fix, and everything else is fine. Additional details: You can fly it outdoors, but if there's any wind at all, expect to go the direction it's blowing. Same thing with ceiling fans.. It is susceptible to interference. Sometimes it would just fall out of the sky. I noticed this much more outside, and when my friend was flying his as well. Not sure if it's actually interference, or just poor quality RF modules. Also sometimes takes 5-10 seconds for the controller to sync. It requires line of sight. Interior walls usually aren't a problem, but don't expect to go behind a fridge or something. The blades will do damage. They don't really hurt much if you get hit in the hand or something, but they did scratch my laptop screen (was trying to be cool and land it on the keyboard). You can charge it via the controller, or in a laptop USB port, but it doesn't seem to charge with a regular USB wall wart adapter (too much current?). The controller takes 6(!!!) AA batteries. It has about a 7-12 minute run time, and charges in a half hour. It doesn't go forward/back very quickly. I imagine you could replace the rear prop with a bigger one to resolve this, but hey, it's meant for indoor. It won't hold any weight. Don't expect to strap a camera to it. The controller has a rudder adjustment, or whatever it's called, in case the body rotates without input. All in all, a very cool/fun little toy. I'll probably be upgrading to something bigger to fly outdoors in the near future. The price seems to vary a lot, so when it's under $20, buy!

Well, my son (8y/o) and myself, (Also about 8,ask my wife) have been trying helicopters for quite some time now. We mainly bought about 7 Air Hogs and a few from the mall and recently we purchased a $40.00 Air Hog with a retractable hook at Toys R US. It SUCKED! No change from all the others aside from the hook. (Which is useless) It does the typical Air Hogs thing, Up,Down, spin left, spin right, crash! If you want to go forward you put a weight on the nose, however now you can't hover, you just go straight. I searched around and found this! I had VERY LOW expectations as they retail for $20.00 and with 2 day shipping I was still less than $25.00! Well Holy SHOCKED! I pulled it from the box and re-created that Air-Hogs commercial, you know the one that no air hog can do? You know zip around the room, stop and hover, back up etc. This thing has No learning Curve!!! I actually was so excited I handed my son the remote and he actually flew it around the room and landed it without the usual crash into the walls or ceiling or me! This thing is incredible! I love it so much I just ordered another one so we can fly together! I have been dreaming about this forever! Anyway now the Pros/Cons: The best part is obviously is ease of use! Next would be that it actually works!, Hover,forward,,reverse,left,right and no trimming was needed right out of the box! How about durable! How about HACKABLE? Is that a word? Just Google or YouTube Syma S107 and be blown away by all the mods and followers this little guy has! Anyway, I do have a con... All the work that went into this little guy and they give you a flimsy USB Charger that sucks! I wish I had known how flimsy this thing was going to be as I would have ordered the a/c counterpart! For one, it is short. If you are a laptop family like us, you are now with a helicopter hanging off your lap. However I do not have that problem as my extremely thin and flimsy charger does not work unless you hold it in the port! Now I know it is a small problem as you can charge it off the controller just as easy but at a cost of batteries! Believe me, just spend the extra $4.00 and get the a/c charger! Aside from the obvious set backs with this type of copter, 45 minutes to charge to get 5 minutes of flight, it is well worth it! Smiling with your best friend, in my case my son for 5 or 6 minutes is truly priceless! I would pay a million dollars for these memories!

I bought a blue, yellow and red helicopter - each from a different seller on Amazon (blue from this seller). The red and yellow did not charge out of the box. The controller charger light wouldn't come on, even after we replaced all the batteries. The blue has charged multiple times without a problem. My husband studied the chargers and his feeling was that the plastic white partition in-between the batteries in the battery compartment was the wrong thickness, so the batteries weren't touching each other. He solved this by putting a small piece of tin foil over the plastic white partition between every battery. He also placed tin foil at the positive side (plus sign) of every battery. There was no need to put tin foil by the springs. Once the foil was in place the controller turned on and the helicopters charged without a problem. Hooray! The other issue we have with the helicopters is that there is an A/B switch on the controllers that came with the yellow and blue helicopters and an A/B/C switch on the controller that came with the red helicopter. But, there is no such switch on any of the helicopters. We cannot figure out what causes the helicopters to switch from A to B - it seems to be random. The point is flying 2 helicopters simultaneously takes trial and error. We have to just fiddle with it to get one to recognize it's on A and the other on B. They've had multiple crash landings and so far no breakage; just be careful to cut the throttle (take your thumb off the left lever) when falling out of the sky. The instruction booklet that comes with the helicopter is a Chinese to English translation with multiple misspellings and confusing explanations. Overall, once the helicopters take to the air, my husband and kids are having a lot of fun with them. I rated 3 stars because of the issues above.

These little helicopters are a lot of fun to play with and seem to be able to withstand quite a beating. We purchased several of these to give as "stocking stuffers" at Christmas as well as a couple for ourselves just for fun. The instructions that come with this helicopter are a little lacking, but this is not a complex toy. Helpful hints missing from the instructions: * Leave the unit level when you turn it on for a few seconds. There will be a very small blinking green light visible from the back of the unit that will stop flashing after a few moments. This is the gyro level-setting. * To change channels of the helicopter (A vs B), make sure both the helicopter and remote are powered off. Set the channel you wish to use on the remote and power the remote on first with the throttle lever at idle. Power on the helicopter and move the throttle to the "open" position. After a brief moment, the helicopter will change channels and is available for use. DURABILITY These are durable but not indestructible. Take care when flying in a room with a lot of obstacles. Even slight changes in airflow in a room will change the flight dynamics of these small, lightweight helicopters. Due to their small size and relatively low powered motors, attaching anything to the helicopter could very easily prevent it from flying and at the very least will make it more difficult to control. BATTERY The helicopters can be charged from the included USB cable or from the included power-port on the remote. I would advise charging with the USB cable because charging from the remote will quickly drain the remote's batteries. Regarding the USB charger, there is a little light in the USB side of the cable provided that will light up when charging is finished. The LED is not externally visible on the charger cable. The way you fly your helicopter will influence how long the battery lasts, but we are averaging roughly 5 to 7 minutes. Charging takes roughly 45 minutes for my helicopters. To maximize the life of the rechargeable battery, allow your helicopter to "rest" for 5 to 10 minutes after a flight before plugging it in for a charge. Take care when plugging the cable into the helicopter to charge as the pins are very very small and I could see where it could be easy to damage them if you're too rough with it. On the charging cable (both on the remote and the USB cable) there is a small arrow/triangle on the top of the plug. Plug into the helicopter with this arrow/triangle facing up. FLIGHT AND CONTROL These helicopters quite stable and easy to fly. It does take a little finesse to learn just how much throttle you should give these, but the learning curve is minimal and you'll have it figured out during your first flight. As you fly (and crash... because yes, you will crash these repeatedly) you should expect little tiny nicks in the plastic blades and plastic body pieces. These will impact flight characteristics over time but very minimally. You can pick up a set of replacement pieces for very little money here on Amazon. I think the last time I looked it was maybe $3 or less. IF YOU HAVE PETS WITH LONG HAIR -- keep an eye on the rotor shaft and pull any tangled animal hairs or fibers out from around the shaft regularly. With very little maintenance and care, I see no reason why these shouldn't last for quite a long time. The availability of very inexpensive replacement parts here on Amazon means you should be able to enjoy a great many flights with these units.

This helicopter purchase was fulfilled Amazon.com via the BeeShoppers store. The packaging was in good condition, but it looked like the clear plastic front of the box had been replaced with some sort of cheap stick-on cellophane. Took the unit out of the box and tried flying it. Flew for approximately 2 minutes before running out of juice. I actually didn't expect to get this much time out of it prior to charging. Upon charging it, I found the charger does not work properly. The way this charger works is you plug it into a USB port on a computer and it lights up. Then (with the helicopter turned off) you plug in the helicopter and the charger light goes off. The instruction manual says that charging will take anywhere from 40-50 minutes and when the charge is complete the light on the charger will come on. To my surprise the charger light came on after only 5-10 minutes. I decided the fully drained battery could not be charged that quickly, so I left the helicopter plugged in for approximately the recommended time. Upon flying the helicopter, I would say I only got a fly time of about 3-4 minutes. Put it back on the charger and the same charger anomaly occurred, but this time I left the copter plugged in for about 2.5 hours. Upon flying the copter I timed it and got under 4-1/2 minutes of fly time. Certainly something is wrong, although even the manual says on a properly charged copter the fly time will only be 5-7 minutes. I previously owned a Viefly 688 JXD Metal Series copter which I found to be much more responsive and have almost triple the fly time per charge. The Viefly also has an accelerator button on the radio control to make the copter go faster forward by increasing its forward angle. This Syma S107 copter has much larger main rotor blades than the Viefly which causes it to take off slow and maneuver slow. This copter is slightly easier to fly than the Viefly, but certainly NOT more fun. To make a comparison, I would compare the Syma to a slow bumble bee and the Viefly to a nimble yellow jacket. Too bad one of the main rotor motors in the Viefly began experiencing problems after only about 8 flights and had to be returned for a refund just like this Syma. I think I will give another try to the Viefly... perhaps the motor problem was just an unusual fluke.

I'm 26 years old, and I'm playing with toy helicopters. What is this world coming to? I think I showed my age when I picked up my first toy helicopter a few years ago and marveled at the level of technology that kids can get their hands on for a few days' worth of lunch money. Back in my day, we were fine with our Micro Machines and GI Joe action figures. And we had to walk 5 miles uphill, barefoot, in a blizzard just to play with them, mind you. In my book, this is one of the coolest gifts you can get anyone. Obviously kids would love these things. I've given one to my dad before, and he's addicted. The CEO of my company has one in his office, and plays with it regularly. The controls are dead simple. It's a 3-channel helicopter meaning that you can control direction on 3 axes: throttle up/down, pitch forward/backward, and yaw left/right. If you can handle a remote control car, the learning curve on this thing is basically non-existent. Here's an important point, though: this helicopter will fly just about as well as any other toy helicopter in its price range. They're all built on the same chassis, all made by random Chinese manufacturers, and probably all have the same guts as well. However, the ones that are done up to look like Apache or Blackhawk helicopters are probably a bit heavier than these are, meaning you might see slightly slower response on the throttle and perhaps decreased flight time. But, that being said, this particular model is great because replacement parts are readily available, and CHEAP. And in general, this thing takes a TON of abuse. I've had several similar helicopters, and all of them can take head-on collisions with walls and furniture without skipping a beat. One slight negative is that the throttle isn't as responsive as I'd like it to be. There's a split second delay between when I increase/reduce the throttle and when the helicopter responds to that control. If you're in a bind, that slight lack of responsiveness might result in your heli smacking up against the ceiling. But again, this thing is built to take abuse like that. Don't even bother with anything under the Air Hogs brand. The ones at a similar price point to this helicopter are only 2-channel helicopters, meaning you can only control throttle and yaw. Those helicopters drift forward by themselves; you can't control forward or backward flight. And the more expensive Air Hogs, while 3-channel in design, are way more expensive than this particular helicopter for no good reason. Finally - if you're thinking of getting into the hobby of RC helicopters in general, a 3-channel heli like this is the perfect gateway to the hobby. Figure out whether you actually like it, and if you do, plunk down on a nicer 4-channel helicopter in the $100+ price range like the Walkera Lama2 or Blade MCX2 (if you really like RC helicopters then the $100+ price tag becomes worth it... they are MUCH nicer to fly, they go faster, and can do more cool things).
