Yes, they can be used for either. You must also have a coupler to join the cut coax ends together. If it's an area where rain or moisture could be a problem, a heat shrink sleeve should be applied

I’ve always found the best way is to trim end of the cable as instructed and force screw them on to the cable.

Q: Is this the connector that goes in the wall

This type of satellite connector screws onto a male connector typically used on wall outlets. I did not buy this product, but bought some analogue TV plugs from the vendor; - these were of very poor quality so I would recommend only buying 1 or 2 until you are sure that they are suitable for your application.

Q: Ive moved into a property and they only have sky serials coming out the wall, so it dont fit my tele for normal tv. Will this do it?

No, these are specifically to screw onto Virgin/Sky boxes. For an ordinary tv signal you need a push on plug and an aerial, a sky dish won’t work.
