Can it be submerged in water? I have an aquarium and would like to tie something in the water and anchor it to the outside.

I think it could be used under water.

It is less than 1 mm. I used it for a three strand flat braid necklace cord. Three strands flat braided together is almost 2 mm wide.

How many threads are in the cord braid?

The spool does not way how many threads are in the braid and because it is waxed it does not separate. I purchased it because the cord fits through the holes in my wind chimes.

What size thread is best for 8mm beads

It would depend on the inside diameter of the bead hole. The product description of the FANDOL cord does not contain a diameter of the cord; I just checked mine. It is about 1 millimeter. I have used it as a neck cord for a jade pendant, and over time the wax has worn off, with the cord becoming slightly thinner, but still perfectly serviceable. It is a very durable cord.
